A HOUSE FIT FOR A KING (REFLECTION)

Solomon told God, “The heavens, even the highest heavens cannot contain You, how much less this temple that I have built” and he was right. How amazing then that the Most High now chooses to live in you and I who are called by His name! What a honour, what an unbelievable privilege!!! This is how the great Christian writer, C. S. Lewis, put it in his book “Mere Christianity”:

“Imagine yourself as a living house. God comes in to rebuild that house. At first, perhaps, you can understand what He is doing. He is getting the drains right and stopping the leaks in the roof and so on; you knew that those jobs needed doing and so you are not surprised. But presently He starts knocking the house about in a way that hurts abominably and does not seem to make any sense. What on earth is He up to? The explanation is that He is building quite a different house from the one you thought of – throwing out a new wing here, putting on an extra floor there, running up towers, making courtyards. You thought you were being made into a decent little cottage: but He is building a palace. He intends to come and live in it Himself.”

Does God go about renovating houses arbitrarily? Does He take them by force? NO! In Revelation 3:20, Jesus representing God the Father tells us this:

“Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me.”

We need to acknowlegde that we are sinners and accept the sacrifice of Jesus on the cross for our salvation. That authorises God to come to us.

In addition, we should begin to live by His word if we want Him to stay. Jesus speaking again in John 14:23 says as follows:

“If a man love me, he will keep my words: and my Father will love him, and we will come unto him, and make our abode with him.”

PRAYER:
May we be that house where the Almighty chooses to live by accepting Jesus as our Saviour. May we also walk in the grace to remain that house fit for the King of kings by making Him Lord, obeying His word daily. May we not scuttle the process of sprucing us up to meet His standards in Jesus’ name. Amen.
