DO NOT NEGLECT THE “LITTLE” THINGS

It is very easy in Christendom today to major on the minor as people say or neglect the things that really count. Some believers don’t feel they are really serving God or doing anything important simply because their names are not seen on billboards or neon lights. They feel God is not pleased with them because they have not recorded miracles like raising the dead and opening blind eyes. They struggle to play in the major leagues of Christian ministry where they can found a church or fellowship with thousands of members or acquire relevance by some other contemporary standards.

[bctt tweet=”Are you majoring on the minor, child of God? See #blog.” username=”edithsmusings”]

While I encourage every believer to seek the anointing for amazing supernatural impact, we should not in its pursuit despise the fundamentals which define our relationship with God and which will ultimately gain us admission into His kingdom when the Lord Jesus returns. When asked to identify the greatest commandment in the law, Jesus in Matthew 22:37-40 said it was love for God and love for our fellow man. You may ask, “Is the preoccupation with supernatural manifestation not a reflection of love for God?” The answer is, “Not necessarily.”

[bctt tweet=”Dear believer, love for God and people matters more than fame as a preacher.” username=”edithsmusings”]

If it was a good criterion for adjudging closeness to God, Jesus would not have given the teaching in Matthew 7:22-23:

“Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works? And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.”

We should spend quality time with God, appreciate Him and listen to His counsel. There are things that burden and excite God and He wants those that can be intimate with Him to share them with.

[bctt tweet=”Desperation and impatience for outstanding spiritual power can lead one into temptation.” username=”edithsmusings”]

If we become too desperate and impatient for power, we just might get it from the wrong source or we might get intoxicated with power from God and elevate it in an unwarranted manner or abuse it. In the ministry of Jesus, when his disciples were going on and on about how they subdued demons after an outreach, his response was:

“Behold, I give unto you power to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy: and nothing shall by any means hurt you. Notwithstanding in this rejoice not, that the spirits are subject unto you; but rather rejoice, because your names are written in heaven” (Luke 10:19-20).

So, child of God, continue to serve God where you are. Magnify the basic disciplines of the faith – personal devotion (including ample prayer and bible study time), abiding in the presence of God – for by these, you will soak in and reflect the character of God in your daily life. That is what is referred to in 2 Corinthians 3:18, “But we all, with open face beholding as in a glass the glory of the Lord, are changed into the same image from glory to glory, even as by the Spirit of the Lord.”

Also, do not neglect to share the gospel and care for people around you. God values you, He is taking note of your faithfulness, He rejoices over the fruit you are bearing, be it little or much, because it is fruit that will abide unto eternal life.

[bctt tweet=”God values your service to Him whether the fruit be little or much. #quote” username=”edithsmusings”]

If you do the foregoing, when the anointing for signs and wonders comes, it will be authentic and it will not derail you in your walk with God. You will not be deluded by fame, wealth or influence. Rather, you will do only that which God has called you to do, not what others are doing, what will make you popular or what is lucrative. You will remain under the authority of your Father and return all the glory to Him.

More importantly, when the Lord Jesus returns, you will be counted among the sheep who will receive His kingdom. And He will say to you:

“Come, ye blessed of my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world: For I was an hungred, and ye gave me meat: I was thirsty, and ye gave me drink: I was a stranger, and ye took me in: Naked, and ye clothed me: I was sick, and ye visited me: I was in prison, and ye came unto me” (Matthew 25:34-36). And while you will be wondering when you did all that to Him, He will say, “Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me” (Matthew 25:40).

With the love of Christ in my heart for you, dear believer, I pray that you stay blessed and rapturable.

At times we are guilt of this, always wanting to do “Big”things so people would notice us, while we neglect those little little things that really does matter, sometimes we do those things and let people praise us instead of them praising God because of us. Like a hymnist said, you may be a glorious singer, that sings like an angel, a eloquent preacher that preaches like peter, a prayer warrior that cast out demons but without holiness and love you can’t see the lord. I pray God help us to love him and our neighbors and do those things that truly matter

Yes, very timely and well worth the read, Ugochi! Keep it up!

    • Edith Ohaja

Thanks, Chinwe! I crave your prayers for constant grace. My love to all yours.

Most times those things we Christians crave so much to have,so as to be identified as a true child of God is not what matters.with this piece you’ve taught us that we’ve been called for different purpose in life, and this different purpose equals different grace and blessings what matters is how well did you use that which you’ve been gifted with.

    • Faith Ojima

God values our contributions to his kingdom no matter how little it is.No gift or calling should be looked down on because it is the little things we do that God appreciates.

  • Woooow what an amazing post, keep it up MA, God bless you

  • I like the way you encourage us to share the gospel with people around us. God puts those in our path that we can inspire and He knows what He’s doing so we must comply and not shrink back with the opportunities. I like the encouragement you share also to keep alert in our every ordinary days! Thank you for visiting me.

Who said that were we are is not enough? That is only right when you are stagnant. Every little role done diligently is important. Thanks Ma for reminding us to be content with the little we are.

    • Edith Ohaja

Praise God! Unfair comparison and unhealthy competition are unhelpful to a child of God. Bless you, Ifechukwude!

Very nice work ma continue to grow in strength and in wisdom… So many people don’t know their service in the house of God counts.. God is a rewarder of those who diligently seek him not those people doing eye service in his house they feel they work for pastor or the priest forgetting that God searches the heart of man and knows those that serve him in truth and in spirit… So no one should feel neglected the man of God doesn’t know you but continue because God is aware of it all

    • Edith Ohaja

So true, my dear! God notes the minutest details of our lives. Nothing is hidden from Him and He does not owe anyone. Reward He will as surely as the day turns to night. Stay blessed in Jesus’ name.

Little things eventually develop into greater situations we can’t handle. We as Christians, must always be careful on how we neglect things as we call them little.

  • Akabuike Chisom

Spending quality time with God, is always the perfect thing to do

  • Anyadubalu Oluchi Maryrose

To me, nothing is little in the eyes of God, BE IT YOUR SERVICE BE IT YOUR SIN AND SO NO ONE SHOULD BE NEGLECTED

  • AKWOLU CHIAMAKA

i thank you lord for the little things in my life. the things i consider unimportant but are priceless. thank you for the free gifts which i can not pay for. i pray you open my eyes to consider the magnitude of the so called little things and to always be appreciative of all that you do. it is really important to show love to God for the various little things which we barely remember. to you lord be all the praise forever, amen.

Sometimes, the smallest things we neglect in our daily lives do make the most significant impact on the lives of those around us. Because we are not ministers doesn’t mean we can not preach the gospel with our smiles, encouragement, alms giving, prayer and visitation to the sick and prisoners. Every gift we have been given by God should be used for the propagation of the kingdom and not for our personal aggrandizement. Everyone of us have been blessed by God in different ways and it should be properly utilized.

  • Okemiri Ifunanya Diana

Thank you ma for this write up , doing the work of the Lord is a reward we get in heaven so there is no need of someone to go to church and be doing notice me maybe you dropped 5k for offering and you want everyone on your roll to notice you ,it’s wrong in the eyes of God ,thank you ma’am also for letting us know about the spirit of been contented with what we have because that also can play a very demonic role in ones life.

  • Eze Chinyere

Thanks a lot for pointing this issue out!! We can do a lot to serve God even if we don’t perform “miracles”. Some of us think that we must be ministering from place to place or raising the dead before we can be called the sons of God. In the process of seeking these powers, we may fall into temptation or begin to feel too big when we attain these powers. As Christians, the most important thing is working in the light of God, meditating on his word, believing in him, ministering at whatever level we can and so on.

  • Arene Ifeyinwa Ketochukwu

Thank you very much ma for this exhortation. God values everything we do for his kingdom no matter how small it is so we should not be discouraged or be desperate for those big things.

  • Every little thing matters and most times those little things we neglect are the things wanted. From the life of St. Theresa of the the child Jesus, she lived her life doing ordinary things in an extraordinary way. For this message, thank you ma.

  • Ezeh Blessing

Thanks ma for this revelation. I always advise people especially Christians to seek God’s wisdom so they can be able to serve Him in the way that pleases him. Everyone has a purpose designed by God, whatever your purpose or mission is do not neglect the little ‘love’ because, it’s the bases of our Christian faith.

  • Agbodike Ogochukwu Maryclaret

Oh! How humbled I feel, knowing that my little efforts mean something to God. Thank you Aunty Edith, if only you know the great impact this write up just made in me.

  • Bessong Faith Ada

The part I love most is the idea of sharing the gospel with people around us. Charity begins that home and by so doing, we are spring forth the light of Chris to the world

  • Oshana Oyaku Endurance

Little things matters in the sight of God. Things human things don’t count and can not be noticeable, matters a lot to God. So, in serving God, nothing is too little or big. God reward accordingly, especially when it comes to the great commission given to us by God – Soul winning.

  • Ikwuakam Oluchi Francisca

Miracle working, preaching all round the world and the likes are not the sole purpose of our christian walk. Keep up with that little thing you are doing at the moment for God and you’ll be dully rewarded when the time comes. Also, when the anointing for exploits come on you, you won’t misuse it. Thank you ma for that prayer at the end, may you remain rapturous also.

  • Anabude oluchi

Well written MA, basically those things we see as little are what God holds in high esteem therefore we should endeavor to exhibit his love and spread the good news among the people than to look for those big miracles we think would attract the praise of men because is God recognition that count and not majorly that Of men.

  • Richards Orighomisan Mercy

As Christians, intimacy with GOD through the Holyspirit is the building blocks of our relationship with GOD and that is the only way we can access GOD ,for a broken and sincere heart GOD will not refuse(psalm 34:18,51:17). Most times if our hearts are not set right these Mighty workings may be an incentive for pride to emanate, that is why these things we see as little are what should be set right before we can walk rightly with GOD.

  • Monday Favour Nnanke

When we do the work of the Lord, things align for us. Ministry is the purpose of every believer so when we desist from doing this work or passing on the message of the gospel, we are lagging in our responsibilities as believers

  • Amaechi-Nnadi Chimemerie

This is so inspirational, God bless you ma
