PRAY, EVEN WHEN YOU HAVE NO FAITH

Have you ever prayed for something but you didn’t believe that God will grant your request and yet He did? It may be a seemingly impossible situation or something similar had defied solution in the past. So you’re just going through the motions in your prayers, “fulfilling all righteousness” as we often say.

That was probably the situation with the disciples of our Lord who were praying for Peter’s release from King Herod’s incarceration in Acts, chapter 12. James, one of the 12, had just been executed by the same king and it seemed like it was just a matter of days before Peter would suffer the same fate. As they were praying, a maid heard a knock at the gate. When she got there and saw Peter, she was so excited she forgot to let him in but ran to announce his arrival to the group. Their response recorded in v. 15 was: “You’ve lost your mind!” That was how expectant they were! Shortly after, they heard from Peter’s own lips how God had rescued him through an angel.

While I was writing this, I read the conversion and discipleship testimony of Matt Slick, the President and Founder of the Christian Apologetics and Research Ministry (CARM). As an agnostic at 17, he was invited to church by a friend, where frightened by a film about the rapture, he answered an altar call. Embarrassed by the weeping of some others kneeling there, he prayed, “God, if you’re there, then I’ll try and be sincere and accept you. If you’re not there, it won’t cost me anything.” Not exactly a Hebrew 11:6 attitude but that was what he came with before he was led in the sinner’s prayer. And it was enough!

?

“As I concluded my prayer,” his story says, “I became aware that someone ‘other’ was there. Someone else was in the room with us and His attention was focused on me. This someone was not a member of that congregation. But I felt His presence dawning like a sunrise. This person was making Himself known to me in my heart. I somehow knew it was God. It was the Holy Spirit.” And so came conviction, he wept deeply, even rolling on the ground, and was gloriously saved.

Or perhaps you had a slightly different situation- you hadn’t even got around to praying and what you needed was delivered to you! God does that sometimes. He promised in Isaiah 65:24, “And it shall come to pass, that before they call, I will answer” (KJV).

A good example of this can be got from David’s life. David was loved by God, who made him king over Israel. Although he had many wives and concubines, he lusted after Bathsheba, the wife of one of his subjects, Uriah. 2 Samuel, chapter 11 gives the account of how David committed adultery with her, tried to cover up his sin when she told him she was pregnant, killed her husband when his ploy failed and subsequently married the young widow.

The next chapter begins with God sending Nathan the prophet to confront David with his sin and pronounce judgment on him. But somewhere in there, Nathan told David, “The Lord has forgiven you; you will not die” (v. 13). David hadn’t begged for pardon but God had already extended it and spared his life, although he still punished him in other ways.

The usual way to get answers to our prayers is to pray in faith. That is why it is important to feed constantly on the word of God, the nutrient that builds faith in our hearts (Romans 10:17).

“6. But let him ask in faith, nothing wavering. For he that wavereth is like a wave of the sea driven with the wind and tossed. 7. For let not that man think that he shall receive any thing of the Lord.” – James 1:6-7 (KJV)

[bctt tweet=”The proper way to approach God is with faith but don’t let your lack of faith deter you.” username=”edithohaja1″]

Many of the miracles of our Lord Jesus were done in accordance with the people’s faith as in the examples of blind Bartimaeus and the Syro-Phoenician woman whose daughter was tormented by a demon.

“40. And Jesus stood, and commanded him to be brought unto him: and when he was come near, he asked him, 41. Saying, What wilt thou that I shall do unto thee? And he said, Lord, that I may receive my sight. 42. And Jesus said unto him, Receive thy sight: thy faith hath saved thee. 43. And immediately he received his sight, and followed him, glorifying God” – Luke 18:40-43 (KJV).

“Then Jesus answered and said unto her, O woman, great is thy faith: be it unto thee even as thou wilt. And her daughter was made whole from that very hour.” – Matthew 15:28 (KJV)

But look at what happened in the Lord’s home town, Nazareth:

“54. And when he was come into his own country, he taught them in their synagogue, insomuch that they were astonished, and said, Whence hath this man this wisdom, and these mighty works? 55. Is not this the carpenter’s son? is not his mother called Mary? and his brethren, James, and Joses, and Simon, and Judas? 56. And his sisters, are they not all with us? Whence then hath this man all these things? 57. And they were offended in him. But Jesus said unto them, A prophet is not without honour, save in his own country, and in his own house. 58. And he did not many mighty works there because of their unbelief.” – Matthew 13:54-58 (KJV)

Nonetheless, we serve a very merciful and compassionate God, a God who as we’ve seen can provide what we need even before we ask. So, getting back to you- perhaps, you’ve never been in the scenario I described at the beginning of this post. In your own case, when you don’t have faith, you don’t pray, period, because you consider it pointless. It could either be that you don’t see God listening to a doubting person or you don’t even believe in Him to begin with.

Lay all that aside. The question that matters here is: Do you have a problem, question or situation you need help with? If yes, come to God with your doubts and all. Bare your heart to Him. Sing to Him the words of the great hymn penned by Charlotte Elliot, “Just as I am”:

“Just as I am, though tossed about
With many a conflict, many a doubt;
Fightings within, and fears without,
O Lamb of God, I come, I come!”

Ask Him, like the father of the demon possessed boy in Mark, chapter 9, “Lord, help thou my unbelief.” (v. 24)

It may be that while you’re in prayer, God will graciously answer. He did say in Isaiah 65:24 that, “while they are yet speaking, I will hear.” Your prayer could also cause you to have a life-changing encounter with God or direct your thoughts to past events and scriptures that will build your faith and secure the answers you need.

Whatever the case, never stop praying, least of all because you feel you haven’t any faith. Remember that God is bigger than all your doubts and fears. That is why 1 John 3:20 reminds us that, “whenever our heart condemns us, God is greater than our heart, and he knows everything.” – (ESV) He knows your struggles, He knows the root of your unbelief; He can help you overcome it and He can bless you in spite of it.

[bctt tweet=”Come to God with all your doubts and fears. He can address them and help you.” username=”edithohaja1″]

Why? Because He is the Sovereign, Omniscient God. Above all, He is good and His mercy endures forever (Psalm 106:1).

I have experienced that, Ma. I never had so much faith abt a particular prayer but d answer came speedily. I was happy n it actually increased my faith in God. It doesn’t matter whether u have d faith or not, if d grace of God is upon you, God can do anything in ur favour jst like how he forgave David’s sins even without him asking for forgiveness…
    Happy weekend, Ma!!!

    • Edith Ohaja

That is it, my dear. Much good can come out of approaching God, even when we don’t have faith. In fact, that may be the foundation for developing the faith we need. Happy weekend to you too, my dear!

  • Oluwaseyitan

Wow! This is itself, a faith booster. It encourages us to just come. Many a times, looking at the prevailing circumstance, one might think and rationalise, “how can it be?” Many a times, I’ve come to the point when having no faith of my own, I only LEAN and rest in the sureness of God and His Word. True, our faith does some, but God’s faithfulness does more.

More grace to you ma, your ministry is well-appreciated and may it grow in influence inJesusName. Amen.

    • Edith Ohaja

Always glad to hear from you, Oluwaseyitan! I say a big ‘Amen’ to your prayer and pray the same for you in Jesus’ name.

  • Dear Beautiful Edith, I love this so much! I cannot tell you how much I needed this today: for my own prayers and for those close to me who are struggling with their faith. It is so, so important for both Christians and unbelievers to know that they can come to God even if lacking in faith. So many; including myself, feel defeated when our faith is wavering. But God says Faith as tiny as a mustard seed can grow. He can use it! For an unbeliever to hear that it’s okay to say, “God if you’re there… “ is HUGE! I’ve told unbelievers that it’s okay to say this, because imagine their relief! I’ve never written about it though, but now I’m inspired to do so. I love this post, Edith. It’s filled with great wisdom and encouragement. I’ll be sharing it today on The Silver Lining Ministry page on Facebook. I thank God for you, my dear sister in Christ, and friend. You are truly a shining gem for Jesus Christ! Much love to you, from your admiring fellow writer and long distance, but close to the heart friend! You are so beautiful! ?✝️??

    • Edith Ohaja

I’ve missed you, Angela, with your travels during the holidays and the celebrations. So glad to hear from you. Thank you for affirming the importance of this topic. Glory to God! Be sure to tag me when you write on it. And give my love to Abby and the rest of your family. Love you dearly! ???

  • susanhomeschooling

Sometimes I’m shocked when God answers my prayers, especially huge requests that seem impossible. I love how Jesus encourages us to keep asking, and He will give us what we ask.

    • Edith Ohaja

True, Susan. That’s why Romans 8:32 asks, “He that spared not his own Son, but delivered him up for us all, how shall he not with him also freely give us all things?” Thanks for dropping by, Susan and have a happy weekend!

  • This is great encouragement! The sacred power of prayer should always be lifted up.

  • Our lord is a merciful father, who knows how best to care for his people, I learnt that With faith God answers all prayer and some times answers the one we don’t have faith in.

  • Chinonyelum

This post really got me. Anything I want to do I tell God about it whether with or without faith, and He answers. Even if you struggle with faith, just make sure you tell God about everything because he is always there waiting for us to let HIM know about our moves.

  • Amaugo Stephanie Chidinma

Ma, this is very true. Just today, I needed help urgently and I prayed a quick prayer without faith. But God answered me. I was so excited and very thankful to God. In the midst of the confusion, the abuse, the misuse, I believe that one prayer away can lead to your victory. Prayer saves!!! Thank you for writing about this Ma. I was highly encouraged.

    • Edith Ohaja

Thanks for sharing your testimony. While we should continuously build our faith, we shouldn’t stop praying even when doubts assail us. You are super blessed in Jesus’ name.

    • Okemiri Ifunanya Diana

This kind of thing has happened to me several its happened that I prayer with low faith, I was having double mind, doubt and everything that maybe God will not grant it but it turned out well, so since then even with the smallest faith in my heart I believe in him because he is the God of all things, he is full of surprises, so these days I pray no matter how doubtful I feel.

  • Imelda Akogu

I have been going through some difficult time for a while and I have kept on praying and believing that God will hear me, but as time went by it seemed to me that he is not even listening. Somehow I know that he’s listening, but why isn’t he answering?
This made me to start complaining rather than pray, One morning along the line I started crying, I wasn’t really praying but questioning God. Two after that, I got a phone call from someone who sowed a seed in my life to help me get what I needed. I knelt down and cried again, this time tears of joy and Thanksgiving. God listens no matter how we think he doesn’t. He does, my dear friend. Patience is all that is required.?

    • Edith Ohaja

Nice testimony! Thank God you got what you prayed for. But we must grow to maturity and not throw tantrums whenever we can’t get what we want from God. He is our Father, He loves us very much but He’s also the King of the whole earth and so deserves all our honour. You are blessed, Imelda!

  • Blessing Udeobasi

If asked to define the word “faith”, I don’t think I can do that. Everywhere I go, I hear the word and see people preach about it. But I don’t really know if I have this faith or not.
All I am sure of is that when I need something, I talk to my God about it, if he grants it, I’ll give thanks to him, if he doesn’t, I’ll take it that it’s not suitable for me and it’s not his will to grant my request. Then I’ll let it go without much worries…that way, life has been very simple and nice for me.

It all boils down to the title of the post, “pray, even when you have no faith”

Thank you ma for the subtle reminder… I’ll always keep this in mind.

    • Edith Ohaja

Well, faith is having the confidence that God will keep His word or do what you have asked of Him. You do have faith because you pray believing that the Sovereign God will do what is best for you. You can grow in faith by feeding on the word of God. As His Spirit quickens portions of that word in your heart on particular occasions, that will indicate how God wants to move in those situations. When you pray the words God has placed in your heart back to Him, you can have a greater assurance that He will fulfil them. Have a blessed evening!

  • Adonu Ifeanyichukwu

Thanks for this encouraging post, ma. I’m aware of the importance of praying with faith as a Christian because God himself told us that if we pray with faith as small as the mustard seed, that our prayer will move mountains. Oftentimes, our prayers are unanswered because we pray without faith or with the belief that we do not deserve God’s favour or mercy.

  • Aleke Juliet C.

Thank u ma, for you have said well. Indeed will I keep on praying to my God with big/little or no faith because prayer is really the only true key

  • Chisom nwalutum

    Very motivational
We should pray with faith believing God
Even when we think all hope is lost

  • Obeta Lillian Chiamaka

Don’t let past experiences make you loose faith in God, God answers prayers in three ways. It is either yes(i will do this for you) or no(I won’t do this for you) or wait(it is not yet time)

  • Nwanne Josephine Chidera

This has really ministered to me. This is just exactly my heart cry this morning and God just gave me the answer. Thank you ma. God has really used you to touch my life this morning. I pray for more strength

  • Richards Orighomisan

Wow, thanks a lot ma, I really appreciate, I have indeed learnt a lot. And sincerely speaking I can relate totally to this story, praying without faith and still God in His infinite mercy hears us and stretches out His ever open arms. Wow, thanks a lot ma.
OK, from experience I have learnt and would want to share, that the reasons why we do not have faith many a time is because we do not know what God’s word says about us, we r not conversant with the word of God hence we do not have a personal revelation of who we r in Christ, and do not know

  • Abugu chinecherem faith

Immediately I saw this post I decided to read it because I’ve never seen something like this before. Normally what most men of God preach is you must come to God with faith unless there will be no result and it is true, but it has affected me because atimes I don’t pray or feel like praying because I have doubt in my heart and anyone who doubts in his heart cannot receive anything from God. So I saw this post, read it and understood still that faith is important but we should not let lack of faith deter us from praying.

  • Nkwocha Chibueze Innocent

Prayer is the main thing faith is a compliment to prayer, we need to pray whether we feel like we have faith or not. God is always there for us.

  • Ezidimma odinakachukwu oluchukwu

Having faith is an important part of being a believer though most times things happen and we do not remember to talk to God in prayer. Our faith in God matter because he never leaves nor forsakes… I pray for the grace of God to help me never to loose faith even when life becomes hard Amen.

  • Paul-kayode praise c

I’m encouraged that even with cares and worries doubts and what nots, all God cares about is us talking/ communing with him, knowing that the infinite mercies of God overlook those worries is enough motivation to pray even when there’s little or no faith.

  • Ominaki pamela

I think I can connect with this post. Sometimes it just feels as if God is not there or has forgotten u exist but when u know his word In and out you won’t be discouraged, ue sas be n his word that he knows the thoughts he thinks towards us , thoughts of good and not of evil to bring us to our expected end.

    • Kalu Divine Ogechi

Prayer is the way we communicate to God, most times we might be so downcast and sad because of our unanswered prayers that we may not want to have faith in God but that shouldn’t stop us from praying, God knows our heart and he will answer us when the time is right.

  • Goodness Rex

Prayer is very important. When a man asks something from God he is not to doubt, if not like the bible says, you can never receive anything from him

    • Edith Ohaja

I guess you didn’t read the post. That’s a shame!

    • Abonyi chisom.E.

I believe so much in prayers. it is the only solutions to most of our problems. although most times when we pray we have so much doubt in us that the prayer might not be answered but our God is ever merciful and he is always ready to answer all our prayers. we need to believe in him because nothing is impossible for God to do.
Thank for ma for this word of encouragement.

  • Onyeka Stanley

The Bible says that, Faith comes by hearing, hearing the word of God. I think that whenever our Faith is down or that doubt has found its place in our heart, we should go back to the scripture. It is a faith booster.

  • Kat

I’ll admit that sometimes I just go through the motions of prayer in a casual manner but never have I done so with even the slightest atom of unbelief. I don’t know why but when I bow my head in prayer, I’m always filled with the assurance that God hears me and will answer me when it is time. After all, he has done things for me before I even requested them. His timing is always perfect. So yes aunty, I’ll keep on praying and I hope I never see the day when I no longer believe that I will be heard. Thank you so much

    • Ndiwe Vivian

That moment we begin to doubt everything, our faith pays for it. Even in doubt, when things become too difficult for us, with a faith as little as mustard seed, when we pray sincerely, God would surely hear.

  • Chioma Christy Agbaraka

When I wrote my direct entry exams to University of Nigeria, Nsukka. I just said a little prayer to God ”Let your will be done”.
I had tried various universities in the past and even when I prayed fervently, nothing happened so I had to stop wasting my time and made do with the polytechnic.

So when I had another chance to try again, I just surrendered it all to God and he came through for me at the end.

He came at the right time, and I can’t stop thanking him everyday.

  • Ugama Gloria Nkechinyere

Sometimes God answers our prayers not out of faith but out of love and compassion he has for us, to save us from such situation. So, is good to pray to God whether we have the faith or not, let us just seek from him, and his word said “seek and you will be given”

  • Oma

Most times i pray with that notion of let’s fulfill all righteousness , especially this semester that I don’t have the faith that am going to pay my school fees, funny enough after a week of praying casually I received my school fees . but the truth is we ought to pray with or without faith because our father who is in heaven answers us out of love.

  • Nnamani Oluoma Esther

Faith is very important to be applied when praying. However, sometimes our problems gets too much that we become frustrated. Even the faith that any solution can come would be lacking. We should still pray anyway. God knows our heart and he knows when our heart is not at peace. He’ll answer us and grant us peace. This shouldn’t make us people without faith though. Faith can move mountains!

  • Eze chinyere

I feel like this post was directed to me. Many a times I pray, without assurance that God will answer my prayers because I hadn’t enough faith but he eventually answered them. I’m glad to learn that God can answer our prayers even when our faith is not strong enough. We can also build our faith by reading the scriptures (especially stories of characters in the bible whom God answered their prayers)

  • Agu Ginika

    God is merciful and compassionate.
He knows our desires and the best way to provide them for us, it now boils down to us being fervent in prayers even when it seems our prayer is not yielding fruit. He remembers us even when we have lost hope

  • ologhofor sampson

Bless you ma. Even the bible say that before to pray to God, he already knows our problems so its pertinent to note that God knows us and our problems better than we do and he’s always ready to solve our problems only if we take the right step.

  • Favour Nnaemeka

Faith is important but sometimes we can’t help it when doubt creeps into our hearts. I feel what’s important is a clean heart for God is merciful and will definitely heed our prayers.

  • Amaobi Precious

Thank you Ma for this reminder. A lot of times, I have prayed just because I have to go through the motions. I never really believed. But, imagine my surprise when at the end, I find such prayers answered. It leaves me short of words. And I am reminded again that God still loves and is in control. So, even when I don’t feel like it, even when there is no faith, I still pray. It’s always the better choice.

  • Arene Ifeyinwa Ketochukwu

I sometimes do not believe that God can do the things I ask him when I pray and this makes me stop praying because I was made to believe that God will grant prayer requests if you have faith in him. But I am now encouraged by this post to continue praying even if I have no faith in what I am asking for. But at the same time I will try to work on my belief system in God.

  • Chukwu Oluebube juliet

Nice write up,your word inspires me a lot.
Truly prayers empowers us more about God and builds your walls of faith. If you keep praying one day you will realize the power of faith

  • Iroegbu Chinatu Amara

Even without our faith He still answers us. What a powerful man He is. God is bigger than our fears and doubt so why hold all our troubles to heart when we can let it all out through prayers. Bless you ma.

  • Enwerem Chiamaka

Words of encouragement like this helps pick us up when we are down

  • Chinenye lucy

Faith is like a foundation remove it the house collapse , faith without works is dead, but we humans most times doubt God ,Hebrew 11 pointed everything we need to know about faith and before we come to God we should believe i.e have faith that he exist, yet God out of his compassion still answers us even when we don’t have faith at all.

  • Euphemia Nwele

There’s always a time when I feel like – don’t pray, God will understand. But then whenever I conquer that feeling I feel better within; prayer helps us commune with God, it broadens our understanding of the most high.
    Thank you ma.

  • Madueke ugochukwu

Exactly i have had such experience when i i pray and i do feel my prayers wont be answered… But still it was. We should pray properly wen we lack faith ..cause prayers helps to turn things around

  • Sunday, Ezekwesiri Daniel

Sometimes, it seems as if I make a huge but casual request from God but what baffles me is that He answers such requests in the weirdest way that one won’t expect. No wonder, He is called the mysterious worker. May His name continuously be praised.

  • Ibe Arinzechukwu Christian

I think that God does something for faithless people mostly to glorify Himself in that situation. Also, that situation might be seen by God as a perfect instrument for evangelism which will be use to disseminate the Gospel and miracle of God to those having similar problem and possibly convincing and converting them to the way of our Lord Jesus Christ. That notwithstanding, without faith it’s impossible to please God. So we human beings should learn to live by faith in our day to day dealing with God because even our belief is grounded in faith. Thank you ma for yet another good work.

  • Akuma Victor

You are right aunty. The truth is this, I am often surprised by God when I least expected it than when I pray with so much believe and this happens when am in dire need for an answer. This got me thinking if I really need faith often to pray but at once I replied myself, I really do, after all, what are we without faith.

  • Ezeh Blessing

Sometimes after praying fervently and desperately waiting for result, nothing seems to be coming but I never lose my faith in God. Because He has done some things I least expected and I believe he will do that I ask of him with a little patience from me. So pray, even if you have no faith.

  • Onah Joy Chimdalu

His love for us supersedes our fear and doubt. If we can come to Him, with or without faith, He sure will hear us.

  • Ukwueze Oluchi B.

The right attitude to God, especially when asking for his Blessings, is to have faith. However, I admire the prayer of a Jewish man in Mark 9: 23-25. He was told by Jesus Christ that if he believed (faith) (his son who was possessed by evil spirit would be well). He cried and said, “Lord, I believe; help my unbelief!” (NKJV). I think Christians should have faith or pray to God to help their unbelief/faithlessness.

  • Onoyima Juliet

I have experienced this before, and God being faithful answeredmy prayers.
    Wonderful piece

  • Okoli Ezinne

Honestly sometimes I feel like God is not responding to my prayer even when I know my faith is not strong but He never disappoints, so I advise we build strong faith in God.
    Thank you ma.

  • Uzor Victoria

In my deepest, darkest moments, what really got me through was a prayer. Sometimes my prayer was ‘Help me.’ Sometimes a prayer was ‘Thank you.’ What I’ve discovered is that intimate connection and communication with my creator will always get me through because I know my support, my help, is just a prayer away.

  • Annabelle Orji

Ma, this post seems to be written for me. This has almost become a norm for me that when I need something from God and I feel like he might not give it to me because I feel it’s not important or I am not worthy of it, it seems like it’s then the lord decides to make name for himself in my life. It always gives me faith that if I could get what I did not expect something back from God, that he can do it again me anytime anywhere

  • Uche, David Ihechukwu

A lot of times I’ve prayed to God over very big matters, at first it seems like God didn’t answer me, but to my surprise, when I least expect, he grants my request. But nevertheless, even when our faith is at the lowest, when we pray at that moment, God still answers, even faster. I am a testimony of such experience.

  • I’m a Christian not necessarily a very prayerful one. I’ve lost faith in God before, not because he has ever disappointed me or not answered my prayers but because I felt like I keep on doing the wrong thing I know something is wrong but I’d still go ahead and do I still don’t know why God loves me but I’m glad. He gets me out of situations I put myself in and doesn’t hold it against me.

  • Onah Ukamaka Blessing

this post really portrayed one of my experiences ,i prayed for something with no faith and God decides to surprises me with the request.

  • Onwuamaeze Ikechukwu

Talking about Faith, and the need to pray when one has problems and the rest. At times, I can’t tell if I have faith in Him or not, basically because, when I’m in a very uncomfortable situation, I run up to Him. I pray, quite okay; but I do not ponder about the measurement of my faith; Low or High.

Why do I say that? I do not want to disprove the fact that Faith is necessary and pertinent, as the scripture says, “…if you have faith like the mustard seed you can move mountains”. Considering that, I affirm it’s primarily important. But, in my view, I feel after laying down my worries, I let it off my mind and go on with my daily routine. Could that be termed as “Faith”?

Why I ask that is because, I believe God works in a mysterious way, irrespective of the Faith, He does things at His own Convenience. True, He freed Peter, but, He didn’t save; Stephen, John the baptist. They all prayed to Him before the dying moments didn’t they? He knows what we want and see to some before we ask Him. Hence, the term “Pray when you’ve no faith” is quite affirmative.

So let’s not be deceived by Pastors ranting for the need to have faith, else, your prayers won’t be fulfilled, Blatant lie!

Having said all that, it’s quite encouraging still, to build up your faith in God, as it helps improve your relationship with Him. Nice piece Aunty Edith.

what an inspiring post about praying even though one has no faith. i have had on several occasions experiences that portrays the topic of this post and it has been wonderful, and this grew my faith. thanks ma for the post remain blessed..

  • Sometimes when I pray, I am not totally convinced about if God would answer because I feel like God is a busy person and would not have the time to answer my prayers. But God in is faithfulness and loving nature has always been answering my little pray. The best time to pray is when you don’t feel like

  • This message is speaking to me. Most times when I face a lot of tribulations and hard situations. I begin to loose my faith, I begin to question a lot of things and I find it hard to pray because the faith isn’t there anymore. Thank you ma for this message, no matter what I face, no matter how hard life becomes and it doesn’t matter if I’ve lost my faith, I will keep praying to God because He’s a loving father. God bless you ma.

  • Paschal Odigonma Victoria

Reminds me of a quote i saw which says “you either choose to pray or choose to worry”. Sometimes our sins hinder us from praying as well. As Christians, may we not lose the value of prayer due to unbelief or faithlessness. My Pastor once said “that you don’t see immediate signs of God’s intervention doesn’t mean he isn’t working”.

  • Brown Bethel Ogadimma

Honestly, this post really caught my attention. “Pray, even when you have no faith”. Does it really work, do God answer such prayers. That’s was the questions that ran through my mind. Well I can say whether or not I have tried it o. Normally, what I hear in various Churches and read in the bible is that unless their is faith, your prayer will yield no result. But why I’ll believe this is because I know within me that there have been sometimes I don’t even pray at all not to talk of adding faith, but God still answered me. Well that’s why he is called *amama amasi amasi*

  • This post is quite encouraging, it tells us how important prayer is. Even if our faith is as small as mustard seed we should pray, it is the key.

  • Bessong Faith Ada

What if after praying and everything’s seems not to be working. Those that trust in him are suffering so why should I have faith but funny enough, all that I ask the Almighty will come to pass. Our lord is a merciful father despite our transgressions, his glory follows us always..oh lord have mercy on all men of little faith.

  • Adeke Chukwuka

Prayer is key, whether backed with faith or not; it all depends on the will of God, the doer of all things.

  • Andeshi Moniica

Have i ever prayed for something but didn’t believe that God will grant my request and yet he did? my answer is Yes! not once, not twice and that has really given me a deeper understanding of the omniscient, omnipresent and omniscience nature of God.

  • Anorue John-Daniel Kelechi

Praying without faith is really hard, it is just like going on a journey without any headway or destination. Faith is a supernatural gift of God, which enables us believe without doubt whatever God has revealed. I find it very hard to pray when ever I lack faith. This post has taught me a lot as regards prayers and faith.

  • Udoko Chinasa theodora

Our God is a merciful and compassionate father and as such cares for us all. Never loose hope in him no matter the situation, put all your trust in him and he will see you true and in all situation give him all the glory

  • Isaac sopuruchi peace

If he still not there I have nothing to lose, I love that statement. Pray without season whether you believe or not. Prayers can go a long way.

  • Nnachetam Favour

Thank you ma for this piece, it just boosted my revelational knowledge. I believed that when we pray without faith, there is still an atom of faith in our spirit, ’cause we praying to God is acknowledging the fact that he is. Acknowledgeding him is faith on its own. The difference is what is the size of your faith. Stay Blessed ma.

  • Ezema onyekachukwu Gideon

It pleases me to be reminded by this piece that with faith all our prayers can be answered. Even if we don’t have faith, we should always go to God in prayer as he has stated that his mercy is sufficient for us. Pray without season.

  • UGWUOKE BLESSING NNEDINSO

Faith. With faith we can move mountains, God promised. But, he has also done great things for us even when we are lacking in faith. God, even as we Nigerians does not have faith that Nigeria will rise again, I implore that you overlook our lack of faith and uplift the conditions Nigeria is immersed in. This I pray in Jesus mighty name. Amen.

  • Ezidimma odinakachukwu oluchukwu

Having faith as a Christian is everything.
Even when you aren’t sure and convinced God still answers. All these are enough proof that God is the ultimate. Whatever it may be let us as believers know that God is always here with us?

  • Pray! Pray! Pray! because it is the essential key in life to pass any problem we are having. Even when all hope is lost still put all your problems in prayer and offer it to God who is the greatest.

  • Godson chimaobi ogenyi

Prayer is The Key, prayer is Our means of communicating with God, we ask God for things we need even when we don’t have faith that the Thing will happen. God is merciful and grants us our heart desires, it pays to serve God

  • Epunam obianuju

I solemnly agree that faith is actually a core factor for answered prayers, but most times people go through difficult situations that even makes them to lose their faith in God, the amazing thing about this is that the moment it seems that all hope is lost he would just grant an answer to those prayers.

  • Eze Nathaniel Izunna

Thanks for this unwavering write up, it is an advice of encouragement to me. I so much needed this today in my life.
Some times I loose my faith and decided to wait for nature to decide.
But with this piece of advice, I have learnt to pray tirelessly even when I have no hope of what am asking for coming to reality.
God is a miracle worker, all He need is our focus not effort. His grace answereth all.

  • The bible always say that we should knock and it shall be open unto you seek and you shall find and ask and it shall be given unto you. I always have this strong believe that great good can come out from being in good relationship with God and approaching God even when I have no faith. But on the other hand, is this even possible? Though whoever God wants to bless at a particular time that he will bless. Therefore it is extremely possible.

  • CORNELIUS ODINAKA

I am a living testimony, I have encountered such situation not once not twice not even three times. In all those occasions is not that am not aware that GOD can do what am praying for but when I consider the circumstances around it, I just feel like this can happen but may be not in this situation of mine. In fact one of them was when I wrote my WAEC, It was seized for two good years. In those days, after the first six months, I lose my faith even though I was still praying and fasting for it yet all those ones was let it be, meanwhile at the end of everything I even went and rewrote another WAEC but barely a week that the second one I wrote came out that my first one also came out and I am proud to say that, that is what am using till date

  • Eze chikadibia Joan

Prayer as it is often defined as an act of communicating with God directly. Therefore, times shall come when situations occur and there is no belief that it can be solved, all you need is just to ask for the presence of God in that situation no matter how critical or technical it may be. Remember that nothing is had for him to do. Always commit everything in his hands and he will definitely rescue you faith or without faith. Meanwhile, faith is very important because it gives you assurance that your problems are already handled by God.

    • ugwu Ozioma joy

Before now..I felt praying without faith is a total waste of time, but all thanks to this lost I now have a different notion, thanks ma…and God bless you

  • IGBOKWE JANEFRANCES JESSICA

St Augustine a famous Medieval philosopher is known for his famous quote “Credo ut intelligam” which means “I believe that I may understand” when we begin to pray, our faith starts building up. Thanks

  • As the saying goes “Prayer is the master key” so as Christians, we should always pray to God no matter how faithless we are. Sometime ago, I wrote a very tough exam and almost lost hope of passing it but someone told me to keep praying to God. I must confess that I lacked faith at that moment but when I started having faith and kept praying to God, I got a good grade. That moment truly revealed to me that all things are possible with God and that we should always pray and have faith

  • Chinelobi Treasure Oluchi

I find that having faith helps, a lot. But the truth is, your faith or the lack of one thereof, won’t stop God from being God. He’ll do that which He wants to do.

  • Immanuella Uwa

Sometimes, what we want is not in conformity with the will of God, the best way to find out is if you pray. In season and out of season; with faith or without faith.

Prayer brings peace, prayer brings faith to the faithless.
    Pray without ceasing .

  • I have experienced that, Ma. I never had so much faith abt a particular prayer but d answer came speedily. I was happy n it actually increased my faith in God. It doesn’t matter whether u have d faith or not, if d grace of God is upon you, God can do anything in ur favour jst like how he forgave David’s sins even without him asking for forgiveness… Happy weekend, Ma!!!

  • Ezekiel Stanley C.

Honestly, it has been God all this while Ma. countless times God has surprised me both financially, materially and otherwise.
There was a time I needed something from my parents, cash to be precise. They promised to send me the cash but somehow failed to meet their Target. Disappointed as I was, I “just” prayed to God for divine help because the money was to help me purchase some textbooks, if you had asked me whether I had faith then, sincerely speaking my respond would had been NO.
But the manner God through a friend from where I did my internship answered my prayer left me speechless.
Honestly, I discovered that the it pays to exercise faith in God.
This wonderful post says it all, God bless you Dr. Edith

  • Happiness ChiZy

Praying even i don’t have a clue of how the solution to my problem will come is something life has thought me…. Sometimes praying for me is letting go of my worries, dropping it at God’s feet even when I doubt how he will carry them all…

  • IKECHEBELU GINIKA

Prayer is one good element that builds Faith, though we might sometimes see it as a fulfilment to all righteousness, but it sure goes beyond that, cause sometimes when we are yet to ask God for a favour, He does it cause He works in mysterious ways that man himself can’t even comprehend.

  • Precious

This is just talking to me… I have always prayed without having faith but it turned out to be and answered prayer…. There was time I prayed to God about my family problems with having faith.. It answered that prayer…. Even since then….i was like if I pray without having faith…. And my prayers are answered…. What will happen when I have faith in that prayer

  • Anabude oluchi

Exactly! I have been in such situations where it looked Like I was wasting my time by prayer and I almost felt discouraged and wanted to give up but with the insight I got from the word of God kept me going which is the major tool that fuels our faith in God.

  • Ikea Joy Chiamaka

This post brings to mind something that my pastor said sometime ago. He said, “it is when you feel the least inclined to pray that you should pray more”. God our father knows what we want even before we know we want it. He is still in the business of granting requests we haven’t even voiced yet. It is really good to be reminded that even when our faith is low(or non existent), God is still there for us.

  • Onuoha Divine

He is our strength when we are weak. This doesn’t only mean physical strength.he is strength for us in everything and every way.
Sometimes, our surroundings are too discouraging that our faith cannot find expression, but God, being faithful, goes before us and makes things right, with or without faith.
This is just beautiful MA. More grace and insight MA.

  • Victor Nzubechi

God does his things his own way. Even when you are discouraged, PRAY. He said we should call upon him in our days of trouble and he will answer.

  • coming closer to God with or with out faith is a step forward in life. we should not think that not having faith while praying would be unanswered. God knows our heart and the right time to answer.

  • Orji Chidiebube Prudence

Sometimes, we ask questions like; is this worth praying about? will God answer this kinds of prayer? I’m I even good enough to get answers from Him? if I wont get answers, what then is the use praying. All these are devices of the devil to prevent the fulfillment of God’s will. Just as Aunty said, go to Him in prayer still, just pray. Great piece Ma.

  • Onuoha Divine

Sometimes, situations get too messed up that we don’t even have the faith that God can answer our prayers. But it is necessary we realise that God is faithful, God becomes for us strength in times of weakness. If we can walk in this reality, we’ll pray at all times. Moreover, praying (in the Holy Ghost) is another beautiful way of building up your faith. (Jude 1:20)
This means, whatever happens, whatever we face, let’s dare to pray!

  • Eunice

Prayer is the ultimate key, whether you have little or no faith just keep praying, you never can tell what God might do for you at anytime.

  • Anyasor Emmanuel Gerald

Thw title of this post really spurs curiosity within the minds of anyone visiting.. Personally i have been in situations when I had no faith as regards expecting what i prayed for but they later came to me.

  • Daniel Chukwuemeka Madu

Apt! There are times I find myself in a situation where I couldn’t think of any logical or rational way that a particular problem can be solved. I just end up saying a silent half-hearted prayer and move on. And the problem somehow finds a way in solving itself in an angle that I’ve never thought of. God looks after His children even when they have lost faith.

  • Okorie Adaora N.

Prayer is the master key, we should always pray without ceasing even when we feel low and a hope is lost, we ought to keep praying even without faith your prayers will still be answered because God will never neglect his people. Also know that constant prayer can activate one’s faith in God. God bless you ma.

  • Agbodike Ogochukwu Maryclaret

Oh! What soothing relief. This is just like cold water on parched throat. I pray God bless you Aunty Edith for this write up. It’s like it was meant for me

  • Nnakwe Uchenna

i know that there are times we pray, just to fulfill all righteousness, thinking that God wont answer. but kneeling down alone to pray shows that at least we have faith no matter how little that there is someone listening to us.

  • Euniprecious

If their is a man to pray, there is a God to answer. at times we find our self in a situation where we can’t think of anything am a prove to this ,there was once a time when things fall apart to the extend that am Hopeless,I can’t think of anything,my head could not figure anything ,I join prayers and shout amen just for the sake of praying not knowing that God starts his own work when men get tired God works in a mistrious way .His promise he always fufill God is never a man that he can lie all he needs from us is to ask, I learned to pray even if it sound like am joking .pray even when you don’t have faith. God knows our heart.

Honestly speaking sometimes I feel like God is not responding to my prayer even when I know my faith is not strong but He never disappoints. Even if you struggle with faith, just make sure you tell God about everything because he is always there waiting for us to let HIM know about our moves. so I advise we build strong faith in God. Thank you ma.

  • UDOETTE GIDEON COSMAS

It is hard at times when a turbulent or troublesome situation before us.we try so hard as to make it whole, we are sometimes saddened by our inability to address that issue, and sometimes we face precarious situations whereby We dont see or have faith or hope not to talk of praying.we should rejoice for this post,as it admonishes UA to even pray when we have little or no faith when the stake or odds is high.great post ma.

  • Otung Theresa

Sometimes I mutter that word of prayer, with so much doubt in my heart but God still proves himself and answers me. Been in dire situations and since Mum taught me to pray, I just pray and the deliverance would come. Sometimes, I just say the words and God seeing the sincerity of my heart listens ‘even while we are yet praying he would hear’. It was an inspiring and soul lifting post.

  • Ekwe ifeanyichukwu

Prayers indeed is the key to heaven. i believe that whether we pray with faith or not God hears us. But for the fact that prayers with faith moves mountain,We should be always encouraged to pray with faith.

  • Richards Orighomisan

Indeed this post is an encouraging one. One thing I know for sure is that God is happy when we trust Him, when we have faith in Him, but also, He is not oblivious of the fact that we are humans and that life’s situations can sometimes drain our faith and that is why Jude in his epistle admonished brethren to build up their faith praying in the Holy ghost. In the place of prayer I believe faith is built, so it is right for us to keep praying even when we have no faith.

  • Nwankwo Amanda

One way or the other, I feel like everyone has experienced it.
Sometimes God answers our prayers even when we have no faith in him just to show us that he’s still there and he can always grant our requests.

  • ANOSIKE CHINAZA BLESSING

Even with the littlest of faith, it can move strong hold. When there is no faith, be bold, clear of mind and ask your father in heaven he will deliver to you.

  • ONYIA STANLEY KENECHUKWU

Pray when things is not going well or as suppose, the lord sees and knoweth your plight. For he decide good and favourable plan for everyone.even when it seems all but lost just pray and believe even if it is a little bit.great one ma.

  • Chukwu Stella

This is great encouragement! The sacred power of prayer should always be lifted up.Our lord is a merciful father, who knows how best to care for his people, I learnt that With faith God answers all prayer and some times answers the one we don’t have faith in,Even if you struggle with faith, just make sure you tell God about everything because he is always there waiting for us to let HIM know about our moves.
