SO MUCH TO THANK GOD FOR!

For a few days now, the gospel song, “Dansaki (I’m acknowledging You)” by Lara George has been ringing in my heart. It may have something to do with the fact that it was sung in church on Sunday as we danced during the end-of-month Thanksgiving. But that can’t be the only reason because it wasn’t the first time I was hearing the song nor was it the only song we sang during that praise session.

Today, I was finally able to share a snippet of the song on Facebook (with the word ‘today’ inserted) and I’ve been dancing at every opportunity. I can count many things for which I could be thanking God today, not the least of which is the alert I got from someone special. But before you go, “No wonder!”, remember I said the song has been ringing in my heart all week. I was steeped in results compilation to meet up with their presentation at a board meeting today. So with that out of the way, I’ve been able to give the song much greater expression.

I just want to thank God first, for who He is, as the song says. He is the Maker of all things and He is my Father. How awesome is that! And as if that is not enough (as brethren often say while sharing their testimonies in church), the Almighty God is also my Friend. Then He is my Teacher when I need some things straightened out, He is my Comforter when I’ve suffered loss, He is my Inspiration for writing; in short, He is my everything.

I also want to thank God for the spirit of thanksgiving itself. Through my time with my late mum, some mentors and the Holy Spirit Himself, I have learnt not to take anything done for me for granted, no matter how small. For instance, sometimes, students come into my office when they are passing by, just to say hello and find out how I’m doing. When they are free from lectures/other engagements and I’m not particularly busy, they sit and tell me what they are doing academically, socially, etc. I don’t just mean those I’m currently teaching, those I taught years ago, including some from other faculties come around to say, “t’s been a long time! How have you been?”

I value such interactions. They give me a window into other people’s lives and offer room for mutual appreciation and kindness. I feel blessed whether I’m the one who did most of the talking or it’s the other person/s. And I thank God for it all.

You see, it’s true that we have certain expectations of people close to us, but at the end of the day, it’s best to realise that any good thing you’re going to get is going to come from God. So when your parents can’t help you, that’s not the end of the road, because there is an infinite number of people out there that it may please God to use to bless you. With that understanding, I thank God specially for everything that everyone does for me, because, really, He is the one behind it all.

The reason I’m thanking God for the spirit of thanksgiving is that without it I’ll be most unhappy, despising certain blessings in favour of the huge ones. Everything is important, and because of that, the joy in my heart is ever flowing.

So yeah, I’m acknowledging God for who He is, for what He does in my life everyday. Oh, and I’m thanking God for my precious sister, Lara George, for allowing God to use her to bless the world with such a song that stays with you and makes you dance even at the most “inappropriate” moments and places, besides, of course, reminding you of some of the things you need to thank God for. With joyful singing and dancing!

Are you ready to dance? You can do so as you watch the video of the song by clicking on its title below and PRAISE THE LORD!

Yes truly there are a million & one things to always thank God for in my life. First & foremost, the gift of life; yesterday many passed away at the Lagos-Ibadan bridge, it’s not that I’m too righteous or loved but it’s by his grace I’m here today, I thank God for the sustenance, if not for anything being away from home, and still surviving is not easy.

“…..not the least of which is the alert I got from someone special” my share oh, ma. Lol

We find unlimited reasons to ask God why and few reasons to appreciate his unlimited grace. I pray I also reacive the spirit of thanksgiving. Thank you mir for this wonderful elucidation.

When people are not grateful they tend to complain, and that isn’t good for anyone. For example, even though the Lord had delivered the Israelites from slavery and given them manna to eat, they were not grateful. Notice what happens: “And when the people complained, it displeased the Lord: and the Lord heard it” (Numbers 11:1). So the Lord hears when we complain, and He does not like it. Great blessings are promised to those who are grateful. The Lord said, “He who receiveth all things with thankfulness shall be made glorious; and the things of this earth shall be added unto him, even an hundred fold, yea, more” (D&C 78:19). Let us follow the counsel of Paul who said, “In everything give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you” (1 Thessalonians 5:18

  • Ungratefulness is one of the worst of all sins. Multitudes enjoy the blessings of life, food, home, friends, health, and a land of freedom—and never even say “Thank you” to God. How this lack of appreciation must grieve the heavenly Father!

The world is full of evil and our lives are not all sunshine, but we ought to be grateful to God and we ought to express our gratefulness to Him. “Enter into his gates with thanksgiving, and into his courts with praise: be thankful unto him, and bless his name. For the Lord is good; his mercy is everlasting; and his truth endureth to all generations.” (Psalm 100: 4, 5)

  • I want to first and foremost thank God for the gift of life, his guidance and protection over the life of friends, family, and well wishers …And most especially for my mother as now she is a single parent all on her own. For the strength he has been giving her all through the journey, for how he has blessed us abundantly from different angles. I pray he continues to go before us to direct us, beside us to be with us, behind us to protect us and above us to bless us continuously in jesus name. Thank you Lord!

  • Ogidi Gift Uzoma

  • Eze Bethrand

Where should I start thanking Him from? Is it for the gift of life, good health, provision or protection? He has done so many things and deserves my praise and thanksgiving. He is so good, he dosent collect silver or gold, money or material things. All I have to say and continue to say is “Thank you, Baba”.
I want to most especially thank him for making me complete my first session as a Lion and for keeping me through the session. I also pray and hope he will guide me through the remaining 3 years. I also thank Him for the gift of my parents who have really been pillars of support to me and hope he continues to grant them good health and their hearts’ desires.
I also thank him for all the lecturers I encountered in my first year, especially Edith Ohaja, who really taught us more about the world than class work. May God continue to increase them all and grant them long life.
    Amen!!!

  • Onyia Ujunwa Sandra

In this life we have every reason to thank the Lord for his goodness and mercy. I praise his name for the gift of life and his kindness towards mankind.

  • Dansaki is a very special and unique song. When you put on the garment of Thanksgiving, this is one of the songs one should be singing.
The song reminds us of how God has been good to us and who He is. In summary, it talks about the awesomeness of God.

  • Indeed there is a lot to thank God for, because there is nothing we do on our own, he gives us the grace to do all things through Christ that strengthens us. So I always put on my garment of Thanksgiving, forever grateful God.

In all things we face, give thanks to God. Whether in good or bad situation I thank God and this prompt him to do more for me. Take the situation of Paul and Silas even in the prison they still praised God and we all know what the outcome was. In other words, saying we must not have a reason to exactly praise God for, just praise him cause he deserve it.

  • Onyia Queendalene Ngozi

Giving praises to God not only on your good times, rather every seconds of your life, praising him increases in his love and likeness of you. He is not after anything from us, but he is satisfied with just the praises we give unto him.

  • Bessong Faith Ada

Thanking God shouldn’t be sessional. We ought to praise and thank always especially for the gift of life. We are alive today is not by our power, wealth or how powerful, important we are but because of his sufficient grace in our lives. Let’s learn to praise and glorify him always for he is the source of all we are.

  • Thomas Rebecca Ina

    Our God is good.
I give God praise, the last six months have been a rough ride for me but God is God, and from now on it could only get better not because trials wouldn’t come but because I am more braced up to push.

  • E Mary Enem

Indeed there is so much and much more to thank God for. (For the Gift of life..Knowledge ..Etc). Think about what he has done for you and also what you can do for the Lord. The Bible says that everyone should thank and praise the Lord at all times (it shouldn’t be seasonal). We may be going through though and rough circumstances and situation buh that is not enough to think or say GOD HAS ABANDONED YOU..NO!.. 1 Thessalonians 5:18 (NIV) – “Give thanks in all circumstances, for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus. There are so many things God has done in our lives with or without our knowledge and as such deserve all our Thanksgiving and praise. I pray in all situation we find ourselves in, We would always give thanks to God. God bless you abundantly ma For Sharing this wonderful Write up.
