SPREAD SOME GLADNESS TODAY (POEM)

Intro:
In our technology-driven world today, it is easy to stay disconnected from other people and become inward-looking to an unhealthy extent. Perhaps, that is why on social media threads, many people sound so opinionated and self-important. When carried too far, this results in abandonment of basic courtesies and outright cruelty. That is why I wrote this poem. It would be so nice if we could stay away from our digital devices more, reconnect with people around us on a physical level and reinforce our basic humanity, rather than tearing one another to shreds online.

SPREAD SOME GLADNESS TODAY

A warm smile, a wave of the hand, a cheery greeting
These are some purveyors of kindness
A friendly visit, a listening ear, an encouraging word
Buoy the spirit ladened with sadness
A fist bump, an extended hug, an earnest prayer
Do share today and spread some gladness

Good morning ma, this is true. I must say that sometimes that word of encouragement can change one’s life forever. As humans, we sometimes need people around us to say, “hey girl or boy, you are doing well” but now technology is taking over our time. A lot needs to be done honestly.

    • Edith Ohaja

We can just start by acknowledging people around us, saying “hello”, striking up conversations, etc. instead of just burying our heads in our phones. Have a bleesed new month, my dear!

  • Onwuka Chinaecherem Emmanuel

Thanks aunty Edith for shedding light on this issue of “cyber bullying ” . In our society today it is easy to pull somebody down online simply because of the distance and the ease of apps and our devices; which is not supposed to be so. We cling to online threads so much we forget our loved ones and the negative impacts our comments might have on opinions of personal or national matter.

    • Edith Ohaja

I think it helps to read our Bible prayerfully daily and seek out edifying content in every media we expose ourselves to so that we encounter nasty behaviour, we won’t retaliate or imbibe it slowly. We should always be the bigger person and that may not be the person that wins the argument or has the last word. We just need to discipline ourselves to walk away from the pettiness and insults and remember that the stuff online usually doesn’t matter much. We should spend time on other worthwhile stuff and not magnify the arguments we run into on the Internet. You are soooo blessed!

    • Chukwunwenwa Chinenye

Another wonderful poem you’ve got here MA !

I’ve come to realize that internet (social media per se) brings us closer to people that are physically far from us and keeps us far from people around us. For instance, five people can be in a room chatting with people but they’d be disconnected to each other.

However, this poem reminds us to show little kindness to people around us. We have to shine our light for everything to see.

I’m going to spread love today. I’ll try to show a little kindness and equally overlook the blindness of narrow minded people.

The world wide web is a meeting place where people of different races and social status meet with each other to share ideas, connect and stay in touch but today this is no longer practiced or should I say we go beyond that simply because we feel we have opinions and whatever the outcome might be is none of our business, maybe because we are not there present. This issue has become a practice the society is not giving up anytime soon; I urge each & everyone of us whenever we want to comment or air our views on any issues, it is necessary we think twice and try putting ourselves in the subjects position. Thank you aunt Edith for this wonderful piece God bless you abundantly.

    • Edith Ohaja

What you said is true. People often behave badly online because the lack of face-to-face contact insulates them or their profile offers anonymity. But we should know who we are and consider certain things, like rudeness and cruelty, beneath us. As Christians, we have the name of our Lord Jesus to protect no matter where we are. God bless you greatly too in Jesus’ name.

  • EDEH CYNTHIA OLUOMACHI

Nice one…..there is actually more to offer to a friend close to us…than focusing more on those afar.

    • Edith Ohaja

Yeah, it’s quite easy to neglect those around us or take them for granted. We should be mindful of that and be the voice and extended hand of God to those we meet everyday.

  • Henry

    Nice ma.
Technology has so bridged human connection. We may feel we are connected when we are on social media, but that is not visible. People might be going through hell but on social media, they paint paradise all thanks to softwares. I prefer even a phone call to chat because you hear voices and can easily detect when one is down(that’s if he/she wants to be open) but a visit is always best. Technology has brought us to a global village that distances us, we should do well to connect with others as you say, by smiles, visit etc. Thank you.

    • Edith Ohaja

I love that remark, “Technology has brought us to a global village that distances us.” So true and quotable. More power to your elbow in your writing!

  • Onah Chiamaka Geraldine

It’s always good to make the people around you feel loved.. A smile alone can do the magic.. Inspiring poem.. Happy new month ma’am

    • Edith Ohaja

You’re right! And it won’t cost us anything but it can mean a lot to the other person. Thank you, Chiamaka! I pray you have a wonderful month too in Jesus’ name.

      • Willie Albert Zikiye

Technological determinism theory States that technology as the ability to drive human interaction and create social change. It also affirmed that men are slave to technology. Due to technological advancement in the society, people no longer interact normally the way it ought to be. In African society, we pay visit to each other and discuss important things but today the reverse is the case. Let’s go back and embrace our social interaction.

  • Aunty this is worth a million! You write very nice poems that you always use to appeal to my mind. continue, don’t stop because your poems are motivating. Thanks.

  • jane ijeoma

This is so true, I have been on social media for almost the whole day on my sick bed, then I decided to visit your blog to brighten my mood with your wonderful posts and this one caught my attention. After reading this, I decided 2 look around and I found out that truly wen u pay attention to the people around you, surely gladness will be received and I have decided to pay more attention to the gladness spread by others and also spread mine and not to always be on my phone all day. thanks a lot, Ma. U surely made my day.

  • Ishiwu victor c

Words of encouragement, food for thought, technology come and go but human brain last forever, who that have Eyes should read as for me am moving forward to buckle up, remain blessed ma.

  • Ugwuaneke Grace U.

That is true ma,I believe happiness is the key to success, no matter what the problem is ,so far we can still keep that beautiful and warm smile on our face,we will be able to make a move or even gain favour from others.we can be of help to a frustrated soul and dying spirit with our words of mouth, though the internet has bridged this, people can easily lie of what their true feeling is,the most important thing is for one to be nice and positive.

  • This so true aunty Edith, people are now so connected to their cellphones rather than to people around them and this is bad. When in trouble it is still people around you that u neglect that will still come to your aid and not your cellphone.

    • Edith Ohaja

This is so true and worth remembering. Thank you, Okechukwu. You are highly blessed in Jesus’ name.

  • Sunday Ezekwesiri Danie

A warm smile, a listening ear and words of encouragement can resolve a probing issue in someone’s life. There are some circumstances where technology can not have much effect but the presence of an individual can effectively handle such times. People easily hide what they are going through on the social media but during physical communication, it is not very easy to hide our feelings . God bless u ma

    • Edith Ohaja

It’s true. Take for example, someone who is bereaved. Such a person needs real human company, not the virtual kind. You’re lifted, Sunday.

  • Eze, Nnenna Victoria

Distances created by digital technology among people close to us is of the greatest disadvantage of this modern technology and we need to shun it.Thanks ma for this beautiful and enlightening piece.

  • Okorie Flora

It is true MA. Modern technology has made people dispersed. They do not know and do not care what is going on around them. It is due to this lack of face to face contact with people around them that makes them have a bad attitude. A friendly hello from someone can make another person smile. We should try to connect with people and put a smile on people’s face.

  • UGWUOKE BLESSING NNEDINSO

Gladness is an innate feeling which can only be fired on by physical and real emotions.when we relate to others in a cool and gentle way, it spreads more real warmth and gladness than the social media can offer. Its so sad that youths of nowadays cling so much to the social media where they live unreal life.

  • Ojimadu Kingsley 2016/240199

Yes ma, it is true we should try to encourage one another. Technology has helped develop the world, but has created a breach in interpersonal relationships. E.g people rather post their problems online than sharing them with loved ones. There is need to connect often with our loved ones and friends outside the internet.

  • Alexis Okoye

Well said, the fact is that since the invention of digital devices which has this appeal with multi dimensional function, it has formed the basic instrument of the day which we all can not do without. It has been an alternative to keeping us company especially with all the social media apps neglecting the exchange of formalities which has to do with the traditional mode of communication. Ditalization has bridged the interpersonal relationship which has been existing before the advent of digital devices. Most especially i think that it all bores down to we “Africans” neglecting our culture and feeling inferior to the white people. That is why we communicate and chat with outsiders rather than people around us because we feel that they have better things to offer. This issue is pathetic with Nigerians. The difference between the black and white people is that white people have rules and regulation guiding their attitude and actions, in whatever that they do.
Secondly, being cheerful and happy coupled with a smile attracts affection. We should all inculcate the habit of putting a smile on our faces no matter the circumstances.

  • Nwokolo Chidera

We have officially been labeled as the “Dumbest generation” by author Mark Bauerlein, due to our heavy use of technology. I am very aware that my generation doesn’t use technology for much more than social media, which in many ways is the same as misusing technology. Although social life is a very powerful temptation, the only way it impacts us is socially unless we allow it to do otherwise. Teenagers are simply impacted by what they allow to influence their life. Well written ma.

  • Amana Sharon Umola

A smile can turn someone’s day around and not an emoji. It is time we relate more with our world and make impact on people. Thank you Anty Edith for this awesome poem.

  • Orji Chidiebube Prudence

Spread some gladness… Truly the technological advancement of has caused people: the confident and less confident to dwell on their devices for communication. Every form of thoughts are then thrown in through these social media. Everyone now sees the other a threat. We should spread some gladness really and not some hotness

  • Sefiya

A very simple way to spread gladness or happiness in your own little world is through kindness. It’s often an easy and quick thing you can do as you move through your daily life rather than spending time on social media. It doesn’t matter that they don’t know you personally. All that matters is that by doing this, you’ll make someone happy and this will help to bring peace in our societies

  • Chisomebi Iroezindu

I was shocked when i told a friend ” you are handsome, even with your pimples”. He began to tear. He said he has never received that compliment. He left soo happy. Really made me understand how much comments can do.

  • Chineme Evelyn Njoku

By just complimenting someone, it goes as far as brightening his day and putting a smile on his face and that’s what we should be doing, rather than causing commotion on social media and giving ourselves the chance to be insulted by idle people. We shouldn’t allow the digitalization of the world to create a barrier between us and our loved ones.

  • Charles chisom vincentia

Smile always.find joy in all things.live right compliment someone.put a smile on their faces. Encourage people.relate with people in reality than on social media.

  • Chioma Harmony

Well written. If u look closely, you’ll find out that most people can’t have a decent face-to-face conversation, they’d rather chat.
Technology has made humans, youths especially ,forget the little deeds that keep everyone going. A text may not have as much effect as a hug, laughters over drinks… lets remembee to spread gladness everyday

  • Nwankwo Amanda

It is always nice to put a smile on someone’s face, the feeling isn’t unexplainable

  • Dominion

This poem lends credence to the saying that people may forget what you say but will never forget how you made them feel.

  • Nwankwo gift

Yea ma you are right. This is very true. Due to the razzmatazz the social media has created,we have totally forgotten our duty of love to each other no wonder we have forgotten various ways with which we used to show love to our loved ones and people who care about us. I believe electronic devices have done more harm than good to us in this aspect of our relationship with each other. Although it will be very difficult to discard it because some of us are so addicted to it especially our phones and laptops.i pray we will start becoming self conscious about this just like the bible said the greatest of all commandments is love we will sure lack in this generation! Ma nice observation bless you!!!

  • It no longer a news nowadays that digital devices are taking over our normal physical relationships, including within the home. Maybe that seems easier (call or chat on social media and the conversation done) but this is not all encompassing like when you discuss with someone. Thank you for this write up. It is a pointer that people should go back and embrace the usual or at times take out time to see, embrace, talk with, feel people in a physical context.

  • Nwabueze Sylvia

Thanks for this lovely and inspiring poem. It’s always good to make people around you feel loved.

  • Ngwoke Peter Chinaza

As one of my mentor always say (Socrates) “happenines depends on ourselves” it is much more better for people around you to derive joy in whatever u do, one of our lecturer will always say that he was inspired to inspire us and I will like each and everyone of us to abide by this through this post. Thanks so much mar…

  • Ngwoke Peter Chinaza

Am always happy reading important thing posted by important people like u. Maybe that seems easier (call or chat on social media and the conversation done) but this is not all encompassing like when you discuss with someone, thanks mar

  • EKWUEME VICTOR OBIORA

Although life seem to be more enjoyable in this digital world but life is now too short. Digitisation is good to welcome but its threats are alarming in this day because the present generation is good in mismanaging and mishandling the opportunities presented by digital devices.

  • Okwor Donald

As the world keep evolving so does the society too. All this digital devices, i must say have caused harm than good to people. and like you rightly pointed out, it has disconnected from the real feeling of interaction and engagement. God help us.

  • Martins Kingsley Tobechi

This little poem really depicts what love is all about. More to this is what l call sacrifice in its fullest cycle. The extension of one’s Samaritan attitude towards others should be the basis of our existence and not otherwise.

  • A smile is a balm to the soul. It is very good to make positive impact in other people’s lixes. We should always give listening ears to people and hear their own points of view and we should accommodate other people with a cheerful heart because human beings cannot live in isolation.

  • Ezike winifred udochukwu

I feel the internet has created a wide Gap amongst people ,,some now feel left out and wanting to belong,,we should surround ourselves with people that bring positive changes to our lives and put up smiles on our faces,,the world would be a better place to live in then???

  • Build a bond with people and as the poem says spread some gladness!

  • NnOROM WISDOM

Great admonition madam, i know that we all can go a long way to maintain mutual relationship with each other, this includes the little things like a handshake, a hug and a smile.
it can really go a long way.

  • Onyejekwe favour kosisor

everyone needs to come out of that digital infected comfort zone and appreciate the natural things that keep starring at us and wanting our attention. look! we’re all robots now!

  • Onoyima juliet

Technology has made each and everyone of us to stay connected, but not to be compared with the people around you

  • Ifediora mmesoma

Technology has distanced us from our loved ones, it has gotten to the extent that the first thing we do early in the morning is to go online. On several occasion some end up not saying morning prayers or will even forget to greet. May God help us

  • Idika Uloma Sophia

With technology, everything is made possible. The most important thing is to live positively.Because of internet, people tends to lie of what their true feelings are. Nice piece. Thanks ma.

  • Enwerem Beatrice

In this world where suicide rate and depression is taking over, its important we all share love. some of us need even the slightest show of warmth.

  • Nkpozi miracle

Life is not measured by amount of makeup on one’s face or how expensive one’s clothes are. To me life is measured by the amount of people that smile on hearing your name….. Spread love, smile at people; you might be saving a life.

  • Ewa ifeoma

You are very right Ma, a smile can encourage someone who is down but nowadays, we don’t even take note of people around us just because we are using our phone or are on instagram or facebook. Just saying “hi” goes a long way.

  • Anulika Iwoba

I can perfectly relate to the poem.
True, today’s level of technological advancement barely leaves time for physical bonding and furthering of goodwill.
    Sad reality??.
The poem, will serve to remind us of our role as humans and the beauty of kindness, compassion and love.
    Thanks again.

  • Emeka joy

I agree with you ma, let us share some gladness and put a smile on someone’s face.

  • Okechukwu Obiora

Everyone is not on social media or online. There are some people in this world that don’t like sharing their problems online, they prefer telling someone about it face to face. Paying each other some visits will go a long way in sharing happiness. Thank you, ma, for this post.

  • Eze Bethrand Chinemerem

It is said that a simple courtesy of saying hello to someone can really save a soul… It would be so nice if we all show more concern to human beings than our phones because some of us can’t see the screen of our phones broken but will feel nothing hurting people and making them cry.

  • Chinalurum mbaegbu

Its true, we should show gladness, concern and love. But where are the ones to show these things to, the ones equally engrossed in their phones, who seem too busy to take notice of what is going on around them or even to greet a fellow?

The world would be a better place if we all had that beautiful smile on and always.

  • Awaka vivian

Just a smile, a friendly hug, and chattering of ‘hellos’ is all we need to make things better in our society.

    • Edith Ohaja

Okay, let’s not get carried away here. We need more than.just that, but it’s good for a start. Cheers!

      • Kelly Tiffany

Wow it’s a cheerful and heart warming poem. It brings brightness to a dark day. I’m quite grateful I read this piece.

  • joyce

I agree with you ma,a lovely smile can heal a broken heart.

  • I agree with you ma’am. We don’t know what a little compliment of ‘you look nice’ can do for a person. We should try to spread love.

  • Okechukwu Victor

The cellphone has brought a lot of changes, yet it’s dangerous. Youths consider it very precious and forget the basic things they should have in common with one another.

  • Nnaukwu Emeka John

Yes, I concur with you ma’am. I discover that in this life, that a smiling face can touch people, especially, the downtrodden; and the easiest way to overcome the devil and the challenges of this life is by wearing cheerful face which would put the enemy into confusion.

  • Chigbu Pamela Chinwoke

The modern technology which has brought about the invention of gadgets has somehow brought about a negative impact to young youths of nowadays because they may not be able to communicate with people when they meet them face to face

  • Ejiofor Emmanuel

People should value those around them first by showing love and kindness to them. As they say, Charity begins at home.

  • In our world today people love their phones much more than their fellow human beings to the extent that they cannot afford to lose their phones but can in the case of human beings. I learnt from the poem that a common greeting can save someone in the time of need.

  • It also presents you as one having the gift of the holy spirit which is kindness

  • Ogbuka Amarachukwu .Deborah

Feeling blessed ma. Feeling inspired and encouraged to be more kind and represent love because its what we Africans are being trained to do. (God is love and kindness)

  • Ngwu Ifebuche Celestina

Acknowledging people around us is the first thing, than word of encouragement to boost our self confidence and esteem. Thank God for what he is doing through you. You are blessed!

  • This poem carries so much meaning. It shows that we should strive to make the world a happier place. The smallest gestures carry the deepest thoughts.

  • This is what our society needs today. Doing everything out of love and in happiness to one another. In the spirit of the love of God.

  • Oba Cindy Biobele

A very good poem with deep meaning. Technology has really driven us away from issues around us and has also made us disconnect from not only people but the world itself. So drop that phone and tell someone hello

  • Onah Chimdalu

Technology has done us good as well bad.It has caused many to forget that the people around them need their love and care.

  • Anekwe Paschaline

It is really alarming how people are drifting far away from each other because of the social media. Before people visit each other more often but now, they just chat. They are completely different people online and in the outside world

  • Abaraonye Chidinma B

No matter how technologically developed we are, no matter how better technology has made things to be, it cannot fill the space that is meant for our loved ones and people around us. It’s a pity that we no longer care about other people’s welfare. It has become “operation everybody mind your business”. That is the generation we find ourselves. But it’s not meant to be so. We should most times say a word or two to people in order to make them glad. These words must not necessarily be through social media but we can make sacrifices to walk up to people and know how they are farring. Nice post ma.

  • Ezeh John Onyekachi

We really need to re establish good relationship with one another and pay Less attention our Mobil phones. And could be the reason why man inhumanity to man is at increase. This poem is timely at a time like this .

  • Ezeibe chiamaka

The poem is a good one. With the way technology is going, I think people are beginning to Live their lives on the internet, calls and visits are now only for special occasions and special people. and this is a problem because on social media, people tend to paint a perfect picture of them selves, that you can hardly tell when they have a problem. No matter how much we chat with someone we should always Create time to call the person or even visit.

  • Onyinyechi

Nice one, some don’t even greet their parents in morning again, while some don’t recognized that someone walks pass him/her,this technological era has caused some madness on people but still have advantage

  • Thanks Ma for revealing insight into this issue of “digital harassing ” . In our general public today it is anything but difficult to pull some person down online just in light of the separation and the simplicity of applications and our gadgets; which should notbe so. We stick to online strings so much we overlook our friends and family and the antagonistic effects our remarks may have on others

  • theophilus anthony blessing

Let’s try and make everybody around us happy with respect and also extend such attitude to the social media.

  • Thought the Internet has turned the world a global village. Let us take advantage of ‘share it’ apps to reach a wider audience with emotional themes instead

  • Okoilu olawole ebenezer

Smile. No matter how little it is, even the slightest smile can brighten ones day.

  • Ibe favour kalu

Nice poem ma. Technology has taken our time that we have forgotten to put smile on a face. We have forgotten that a visit can heal a soul. A hug can mend a broken heart. Words of advice can give encouragement and a smile can serve as a handkerchief to wipe a tear. We should learn to love every single day without the help of social media.

  • Okoli Ezinne Juliet

so much like this poem, this is because people tend to live fake life especially on online stuff, but looking at their lives you will see that they are actually looking for a shoulder to lean on.
so adding to this wonderful poem, I think we should actually associate with people physically because who knows, you might change a life
    God bless you ma

  • Amaugo Stephanie Chidinma

Lovely poem! Rather than bury our heads in our phones chatting away our time, it is expedient to extend warm greetings to people as it may bring light to someone’s day. We never can tell though.

  • Ibekwe Vincent c.

We should make friends and gain more fun in life. We are who we are because of the calibre of friends and we have. We should be extrovert rather than introvert.

  • anabude oluchi m.

good day ma, well said.currently people use this meduim to perpetuate evil and it has also made most of the youth not to be concious of their environment. and most people use this meduim to create give people the impression that they are living big where as is only a big fat lie which is why it should be looked into and should be an improvement in our communication with others by visiting or giving a call on regular basis which is much appreciated by people

  • chah ugochukwu adiensa

Before the coming of technology to africa, we africans used to be so sociable, so kind, we used to visit alot and get involvedin other peoples lives. But now, everyone is busy on the phone. In a household the mom and dad are on phones, the children are on laptops. This has indeed greatly influenced the sociable aspects of the africa man. Now, people dont visit again, they dont even greet eachother, its all about the social media. It is really sad and we really need to grap that old attitude back because, greeting people, smilingat people shows love, shows friendliness, shows that you care. This was what differentiated us from the whites. Lets give out a smile to our neighbours, a handshake because one never knows whose life he/she will touch or who she/he will encourage that day

  • CHUKWU MICHAEL

This is expected in our era, people cling to gadget rather than God and human being.Everyone is trying to impress another, some are extremely guarded others secretive, dubious and over ambitious, some paint different lies about themselves.this should not be so rather,we should be one, united and show love. let love lead

  • Ezidimma odinakachukwu oluchukwu

Thank you so much ma’am for this poem. Nowadays in this present dispensation where social media has taken over everything. Most people don’t even see their friends anymore and they are not worried about it because the social network is there. Not that it is bad but it prevents inter personal communication even between mother’s and their daughters.

  • Ellanora

Modern technology helps us to connect with people world wide but the sad thing is that it is separating us from our people, cultural .

  • Lilian

Most times in our families today, we hardly hear of family gathering or get together, one will just reach out to one’s relative through the telephone. I hardly visit my relatives all because I can simply use a telephone. And to our friends, if not classes and seminars which brings us in close contact, I doubt if there will even be a reason to pay one a friendly visit.

  • NICE ONE! I WISH AS MANY PEOPLE AS POSSIBLE CAN SEE THIS POST. THANK YOU.

  • Ngene Bob Charles

As much as we enjoy the awesomeness of social media technology there are some special features of nature that cannot be tossed into extinction.

A warm hug, a cheery smile, a wave of the hand. They bring the very best of fun and happiness that social media platforms can’t completely give.

I totally appreciate the fact that there’s a poem that finally gets to address this

  • Stephens Chinecherem Grace

Many, including my self, are guilty of letting technology rob us of physical touch with our fellow humans. Thank you so much ma’am for sharing this poem. I won’t let technology ruin my relationship with friends and family.

  • Nwannah Juliana ngozi

Before technology Africans especially the igbos are very hospitalble but technology has done harm to us when it comes to physical communications.i am guilty of this but the physical contact gives lots of joy more than social media would ever do. Thank you ma’am for sharing this wonderful piece

  • Ibekwe Evangeline Chinaecherem

Words of encouragement, food for thoughts, happiness is just the key to success , no matter what the problem is always smile God is in control

  • Okonkwo Goodness chiamaka

Am a victim of this i hardly keep friends always glued to my phone either chatting or snapping pictures. Technology has really affected me negatively in terms of my relationship with people i no longer visit my folks rather we chat even in my relationship with God i have relented i first check my WhatsApp messages before praying in the morning .Thanks ma for opening my eyes

  • CHINEGWU OBINNA GODWILL

Spreading great tiding and the good news (gospel) should be our watchword.Being addicted and tied to these gadgets should not be known among us.Ma,you are great positivist and a genuine spiritual leader to our generation and i am fortunate and proud to know you.Lazing about with our phones should not be encouraged rather we should use that phone to propagate good news around..

  • This is very true.
It is pathetic how technology is taking over our relationship with people we can actually see.
Sharing my experience: one evening when me and siblings were all in the parlour, and as usual fidgeting with our phones, not paying attention to each other because we were on one social media or the other. My mom called us one by one and took our phones from us and for the remaining two days we interacted more and felt even closer to each other.

  • Chidebe uchechukwu cyprain

This is actually a serious predicament in our society today. People no longer relate well with their mates or those around them, no element of socialization. They only relate well using technological mediated means of communication, social media etc which is too artificial coz most of things people do or say on social media they can’t do in reality. Some are already becoming too addicted to it and is not fair at all.

  • Enobong Daniel

    You are right Aunty.
Let’s be humanity conscious for once : just a smile, a warm hug and encouraging words can fill the void created by technology.

  • Epunam obianuju

actually friendly smiles and encouragements attracts people. When you try to cheer people up with words of kindness and acts of charity etc. People love you the more and would always want to have you around. Many are going through hard times and you may never know the broken hearts your words of kindness may heal.

Reading this poem, all i thought through was the wise sayings, “share some goodness and people would never forget how you made them feel”…Thanks ma for this wonderful post.

  • nothing is as sweet as a show of true love and care.. it brings forth gladness.

  • Epuechi Chinwendu Almira

Technology has its advantages and disadvantages and one of its disadvantage is the breach to physical human communication. Talking and being nice to people can actually mean a lot to them because we may not know what they may be going through.

  • Amarachi

Lack of attention has led to misfortunes in our world today. Most times, a listening ear can twat a perceived wrong, being a shoulder to lean on makes a person having a difficult time to feel loved, even when you may not necessarily have the solution to that problem, just the fact that you are there and fueling in your words of encouragement. That feeling that someone cares helps alot.

  • Ajibe Chinonye

You don’t know how much your smile can brighten someone’s day. I didn’t believe this saying until the day someone told me about my smile.l believe the smallest things we do are what actually counts most times…

  • MMESOMA ADAEZE

Of a truth, this is actually what we need at the moment… because on social platforms, people tend to act as if the person they are referring to is not human or to investigate why the person acted the way they did, only for them to start laying blame and to criticize them… We should relate more with people more, than the technology world… Put a smile on your face and help people and try putting your self in other people’s shoes….instead of being bored and inhuman.

  • Ugwoke Somto Promise

That’s right. We really need to act as a pillow for the burden-filled heads in our society. Everyone has problems but with a little smile, those problems alays seem to disappear. Lets be a little more sensitive towards our fellow human beings. Nice composition Ma.

  • Ugwuja Deborah Tochukwu

Since my phone was stolen three months ago, I have had more time for people. I noticed that I spent more time with my phone than my books and the people around me, especially my friends. So I insisted on my parents not getting me a new phone and it has helped a lot.

  • Even a word or two of encouragement could be just what someone needed to have a bright day. Technology shouldn’t form the basis of our relationship with people.

  • No matter the situation in life. We sure have to spread some gladness to the world. We have to show love to our neighbors and friends.

  • Thank God for the gift of technology at least we can now connect with others from different part of the world and share smiles, encourage others and even to an extent of online dating and marriages….it’s helpful we share with others our smiles…

  • We should always try our best to make people around us happy ,because you’ll never know what that person is going through so we should just try and cheer them up .if you can’t then let them be instead of adding more pain to them

  • Okoh Anthonia

we really need to bridge the gap technology has created between us and our fellow humans. Technology has made people live double life. If you check their life on social media and their life in reality it’s never close. We should try and relate more with people around us and pay attention to them because you might have words that could cure someone, you might have word of encouragement but you can’t give them because you who needs them. We need to give listening ears to people to know their problems and help them solve it. At least there are words of encouragement, motivational talks and others. So, we should give what we has to those who need it and this can be achieved when we give listening ears to our fellow humans and live out of our mobile devices.

  • Adumike Winifred

Technology has made us know people far away from us, that are not even of same nationality with us,but sadly it has kept those very close to us away.
Two siblings can stay together without speaking to each other, get together with friends is now a avenue to Show how long you can stay without with your phone.
    May God help our generation

  • Henry onyeka

We should learn to share love and care to people around us in order to breed a healthy community.

  • Ochei Anthony mkpulumma

This poem portrays on what happen this day. People do communicate well in the social network like Facebook and WhatsApp but can’t communicate or have a good discussion physically.

  • ikebudu juanita

We are still existing today because of love which came from christ, life itself is stressful and full of activities, the little signs of love we show to people can do a whole lot to them

    • Euphemia Nwele

      Waking up in the morning
I reach out first to my phone
      Having a discussion with mom
At the same time I converse with my phone
Walking on the road, no longer a safe trend
As I fight the urge to steal glances at my phone.
I reconnect with friends and loved ones from far away
But from the ones close by, I drift away.

Let’s not overdo things. There should be a balance.

  • Cynthia Ugwuoke

Yeah! Indeed spread some gladness everyday. A warm smile towards somebody can mend a broken heart?, a wave towards someone can chase away depression etc. Everyone should try and cultivate the habit of spreading some gladness no matter how little it seems. It goes a long way in achieving positive things.

  • Onyekachi confidence chimamaka

Good morning ma.this is what doing a physical closeness or intimacy is far worth it to what digital interactions can do.we just have some time for one another and let our smile be an encouragement to those who lack strength. Love u ma!

  • Amuzie Chioma Esther

Technology has its advantages and disadvantages. I’ve seen some cases where an accident occurred and instead of people to sympathize with them, they rather prefer to stand and use their phones to take pictures and videos of the scene leaving the victim to lie helpless at the spot. Technology is very good but should not be taken for granted.

  • Edwin ijeoma vivian

If Christ didn’t die for the love he had for UA, we won’t be living. Why then won’t we show love to others…

  • Eze martins Tochukwu

Life is a social activity, life is mostly enjoy when we spend some time with friends and families. So let us not allow technology to take away this precious time we have to share with families and friends

Digitization has done the world a lot if good especially in cutting distance. Some people tend to ignore the ‘face to face’ kind of gathering(which is the most enjoyable mode of interaction).

  • Eze Nnenna Uzoamaka

Well, it’s no lie, that technology has helped us connect with people from different places.
On the issue, that it disconnects us from people, I can’t truly say… I’m not sure….
But I know there’s a case of textroverts, where people are better on the technology than socializing in person… All the same it’s good if we socialize well in person

  • Ogbuagu chinenye

I love this post, because i myself have experienced it,a smile you show,a hug,a compliment goes a long way to uplift people…even with technology we can”spread some gladness today”

  • Onyia Ujunwa sandra

This is a very nice poem which explains effects of social media. In this modern age young people tend to be connected to the internet rather than having time for people around them.Technology has both positive and negative effects,we should try and relate more to people around us than the social media.God bless u ma for this post.

  • Egenti chidimma Jennifer

I love this ma. Unfortunately we don’t know how far our kind words can go in the life of someone sad… This is so touching

  • Richards Orighomisan Mercy

Thanks ma, very true what is life if we can’t make the next person around happy. Money is not everything, a simple smile, a sincere hug, a short wave of hand, goes a long way in healing hearts.

  • Andeshi Monica

Sometimes what can solve a person’s problem is kind gesture. it will be very nice if everyone tries to be his/her brothers keeper. After all, that was how Africans were before the introduction of individualistic lifestyle by the British, which has done no one any good.

  • Onuoha Divine Nmasinachi

Social media came with the intent if reconnecting people. But ironically, it seems to have created a level of distance between people.
People no longer see the need to connect physically with others anymore. Everyone is so engrossed in online activities, no one cares or understands what others are going through on the inside as there is now less physical contact.
Its important we make out time to socialize and relate with people personally.
This is indeed timely and insightful.

  • Yeah indeed spread some gladness every day. A warm smile towards somebody can mend a broken heart, a wave of the hand towards someone can chase away depression etc. everyone one should try and cultivate the habit of spreading gladness no matter how little how little it is, it goes a long way and it still count positively

I love this. Technology has many advantages but that does not mean we should abandon our normal life.

  • Emmanuel

Today’s world has lost a lot because of technology. Most people have lost the courtesy of greeting or even praying in the morning.

  • Woow…Thanks ma’am for this wonderful poem, its quite true people now relate with their phones more than their fellow human beings, some don’t even have a single close friend to relate with all because of the influence of social network… I think the youth should avoid such attitude because too much of everything is bad,we should be balanced in life

  • UGWU COLLINS

This is actually true, people tend to spend more time with their phones than with friends and actual human beings. It actually sad. I will definitely spread some gladness everyday of my life.

  • Ogbonna Precious Onyinyechi

Spreading gladness should be one of our piorities in life.Yes, I would agree definitely, its better to interact with people on physical leve,we will be exposed to new ideas, friends e.t.c that will help us one way or the other than those online because they are far and we will gain little or nothing from them

  • Paul-kayode praise c

There are little things we ignore but matters a lot. Calling on phone to say hi I wanted to know how you are doing will go a lot go a long way to put smile on someone’s face. Greeting with a smile on our faces is very good tto chill a hot hrt?

  • Nnamani Oluoma Esther

Every one deserves happiness and it is right within our grasp. We have happiness inside us and it takes nothing to share it to everyone around us. Happiness can’t be bought, it is a free gift and we shouldn’t hoard it. A little smile here, a kind word spoken, can go a long way in helping boost people’s spirit. We should all be happy people.

  • Oma

There are somany people out there who need some one that will say hi or hello to them , ask them how they are doing ,what they are passing through etc .
Some people have problem but don’t know how to share because they are afraid to talk to people , we should look at those people and make friends with them in other to help them find a solution .

  • egbo Rita Somtochukwu

We should learn to be humane just like our Lord Jesus Christ. We should try as much as possible to impact greatly in the life of people. We should serve as a listener ear to them, encourage them, show kindness because in return God blesses us his people.

  • Blessing obidudu

It’s so heart warming! Just smiling at someone could change that person’s entire day for good. We should try to show kindness and warmth to people around us to make them feel loved.

    • Abonyi chisom.E.

Technology is good but we should know that anything that has advantage also has disadvantage. we should try not be addicted to anything especially our phones. instead of spending most of our time online( social media) making friends with people we don’t know we should try and reach out to people around us by showing them care and love.

  • Afiadigwe Nnedinso Rita

it is very nice to give everyone around us a listening ear. Looking around us today, alot of people are depressed and when no one is ready to share thier burden with them, the next option for them will be suicide. let’s spread love and be our brother’s keeper.

  • Uzor Victoria

Kind words do not cost much. Yet they accomplish much.spread gladness all the time.

  • Ugama Gloria Nkechinyere

Sharing some gladness and kindness to people is worth more than a gold, it encourages and unfolds many things in lives of people especially to the depressed. Nice one.

  • Uche, David Ihechukwu

Sharing a little gladness, just a little gladness can save a life. It can draw a smile on one’s face. Many times, people often go through phases in life. These phases may be depression, frustration or rejection. Giving a warm smile, and showing concern to the people that goes through this phase can really go a long way.

  • IBEKWE VINCENT CHUKWUEBUKA

A listening ear and encouraging words are needed in the society. Some people are really experiencing hell here on Earth, depressed and heart Broken. We should endeavor to pay attention to people who wants to confide in us and also encourage them to step up. Not all problems are being solved with money.

  • Chikodi Obu

This poem in its entirety embodies bodily gestures and warmth utterances in real life. It is noticed that nothing is said about social media in the poem. This is a sign that it’s irrelevant and not what you should be bothered about. Worry about people around you; give a helping hand, encourage someone who needs it, be nice and don’t live a social media life, it’s depressing. Spread some gladness today!

  • Chukwuma Wilfred

Such a short, witty and meaningful poem right there. The world would be a better place with people reasoning from the line of humanity this piece depicts. A warm smile, a wave of the hand, a cheery greeting cost no dinar to extend to others. This piece just brightened my mood…

  • Mirian Ndawe

I know many people that have a lot of friends online and very few in real life…….
People, especially teens of this age view social media as their life, outside social media, they’re social hermits.

  • Oshana Oyaku Endurance

This post reminds me of a song we normally sing when I was a kid, it goes like this: Show a little bit of love and kindness, never go along with hatred blindness, take a little time to reach for joy and wear a happy face, sing a little bit when the days are dreary, take a little time for a friend who’s weary, that is the way to make the world a happy place. Nice one! God bless you.

  • Bessong Faith Ada

I strongly believe that caring for someone around you mustn’t be by you giving them money, food items etc. Sometimes giving someone a listening ear and encourage the person when necessary goes a long way in sustaining our interaction.

  • Ugwu Chizoba janet

My name is Ugwu Chizoba Janet, Well said ma. Thousand of people in the society today what they might need is affection and care, just a word to someone out there, “I love u”, can change someone’s life. let’s make today better for someone and let’s create a difference.

  • Akuma Victor

There is nothing so relieving as these. I have noticed that making a friend happy makes me happy as well. Hence, it is a win-win game.

  • Venessa Stephen

As a child I remembered how I played with my friends, those memories I cherish so much, but recently i realized that most children nowadays don’t play much which has deprived our society of love, tolerance, affection.Due to the Advent of social media, everyone minds their business ,by so doing we don’t care to know what’s happening in each others lives. We all have pains , sorrow, there’s this point in life,we just need someone to talk to or lean on for support and we can solve some problems by simply talking. There is this joy it gives when you interact with your friends,I mean it’s priceless.

  • Herit

Spread some gladness. Technology brought both good and bad. Social media has made it easier to connect to people virtually. We all need affection and by showing some physically other than through media, we tend to bridge the gap technology has created. Spread some gladness today!

We don’t know how much the goodness we spread will go a long way in helping the life of others, so as much as we can we should spread goodness, cause it will gladden the heart of someone.

  • A cheery or warm smile, a listening ear and words of encouragement can resolve a long-lasted issue in someone’s life. There are some situations where technology can not have much effect but the presence of an individual can effectively handle such times. People easily hide what they are going through on the social media but during inter-personal communication such issue is easily deliberated on and quietly resolved. What a spectacular post.

  • Ibe Arinzechukwu Christian

Technology has indeed made us to be “closely far”. I can’t remember the last time I paid a good homage to my friends. All I do is to chat with them on social media platforms.

  • Urama Emmanuel

Thank you so much ma’am for this poem. Nowadays in this present dispensation where social media has taken over everything. Most people don’t even see their friends anymore and they are not worried about it because the social network is there. Not that it is bad but it prevents inter personal communication even between mother’s and their daughters..lol

Spreading gladness should always be an effective way of saying thank you to our creator, saying thank you for not be in the grave saying thanks for being among the living. spreading that gladness with which God’s mercy radiates in us.

  • Chioma Christy Agbaraka

People need to bear in mind that the INTERNET NEVER FORGETS. For every vile comment made, it might boomerang in the future.
Generally, dwelling on the cyber space for a long amount of time is not healthy, especially when you don’t run an online business. People should take time to connect physically with people around them more often. There is nothing as compared to physical interaction because most people don’t reveal their true feelings behind the keypads.

  • Odeh faith elakeche

Technology has changed the world, there exist a shift in our relationship with others due to tecnology .we don’t even know how our loved ones are fairing again because of “Social media” our feelings cannot be expressed on phone one on one visit to check up on our loved ones is important. Learn to spread gladness by paying visit to our loved ones.

  • Ugwu Janet Chizoa

A poem of good rhythmic flow revealing good virtues that every human being should desire ad work o daily basis.

  • Eze chikadibia Joan

This has become a difficult thing to do especially among the youth. They prefer chatting online where various annoying words are being used which they find as pleasure. A little care through the physical contact goes along way in people’s life. We should our high level of social networking and come back to physical contact. I believe it would be more appreciated because expressions are seen which requires more spread of love and gladness.

  • Nwachukwu Chidinma

    From line one
A warm smile, a wave of the hand, a cheery greeting, are all we need in this recent era or age . people are not cared for and everyone is on his or her phone and that’s why the suicide rates are high .we all need to care for our neighbour just like the last commandment “love though neighbour as thou self “

  • Chinelobi Treasure Oluchi

I like the intercession part because this is the fastest means of communication to a friend who is far away and in need. The prayer of a man can go and heal his friend who is depressed and can’t feel God.

Showing and sharing of love and care to people in a face to face conversation is better because people tends to feel, know and acknowledge your love for them

  • Eze Chioma

Our mobile devices can sometimes turn us into introverts without us knowing it. We’re enveloped in our little world, far from the realistic that we forget to connect with our real world and communicate with the people living in it.

  • Janefrances Nwaduche

I LOVE this poem;such a powerful message passed in a few sentences. Indeed, it is very advisable to reach out to people in any way we can. Who knows, that wave of the hand or that smile could just be what an individual needs to get him/her going.

  • Ebe John Chimuanya

Yes let’s be each other’s support system today. That smile can go a long way in lighting someone’s day up. So be people’s remedy and not their problem…… Spread some love wherever you are!

  • It’s is very true that technological advancement of has caused people more good than bad and vice versa people have become more confident and less confident in different cases but then we should not fail to check up on other people as it is very important

  • Technology has made us keep in touch with people faraway than the people around us, who might be going through difficult moment or who are yearning for love and care. Let’s pay less attention to digitization nd embrace togetherness nd love.

  • Rose Mary

Meeting friends online is good but meeting friends face to face is better because it makes interaction vibrant and build trus and we can easily spread gladness with friendly gestures

  • Dike Gerald

Really, the beauty of our being together is friendliness. But, oftentimes we become so concentrated and selfish. Indeed, it very good to be in touch and in friendly manner.

  • Cynthia ihekwoaba

Try to check upon our loved ones ,our friends and spend time with family. Visit the motherless baby home.spread love every were you go.

  • Otung Theresa

The negative effects of technology these days. You are having an important discussion with a friend and he/she would seem distracted by his/her phone. Sometimes forcing you to repeat yourself. That could be rude and annoying.

  • So true. Technology is making human relationship poor while boosting communication. Its obvious people tend not be real on social media. To some extent its degenerating human relationship.

I pray people utilize this positively for good because its now inevitable.

  • Yes ma, it is true we should try to encourage one another. Technology has helped develop the world, but has created a breach in interpersonal relationships. E.g people rather post their problems online than sharing them with loved ones. There is need to connect often with our loved ones and friends outside the internet

  • Akarule Adaeze Goodness

The saying that goes “the little things we do matter” can not be over emphasized. Spreading gladness and cheerfulness does not take anything out of the giver, instead it brings this warm feeling of fufilment. Spread gladness today. Thank u ma.

This post is extremely beautiful. I’m not going to say that I’m all perfect but this has got me to know that there are some more good doing that we should engage in to improve our happy state of living.

  • Okorie Adaora N.

A simple smile can actually go a long way and shows care for one another. Some people need to feel loved and physical connection is the best way to do this not through the social media always. The Internet can also help keep in touch with people but cannot be compared to the physical interaction. Some people just need someone yo talk to and share their pains but when they do not feel love from anyone or anywhere, they tend to stay down and slowly depression comes in and even suicide, therefore, we should share love everyday till it becomes infectious. Thank you ma for this wonderful poem.

  • Igboamalu oluchi vivian

We are one and so should live as so there is no gain in disunity and war we should help in enriching and touching people’s lives today by some amount of good will that Is why it’s always important to spread some gladness everyday of our lives.

  • Nwosu chinwendu favour

    This poem Is well written.
This is the problem most people have, being so attached to their device.
It’s actually normal to reach out for your friends and loved ones on social media but it’s Wrong when you don’t pay them a visit. Lets spread some love and gladness today by looking out for our friends. Physical interaction is always the best .

  • Chidinma Obasi

Friendship is more of the physical than the social media stuff. When we reach out to our friends that is, through love and encouragement their lives will never be the same. Know it also that spreading of gladness comes from the inside, because you cannot give what you don’t have.

  • Ayigbo Chineme Edna

Short and accurate. And whats more, the message of the poem was loud enough that I got it at the first reading. Preach on ma.

    Lovely poem!
The social media tech helps us connect with friends and family who are far way but it damages our physical human interaction.
The ‘day’ Albert Einstein mentioned in one of his quotes about technology is here. His quote, “I fear the day that technology will surpass our human interaction, the world will have a generation of idiots”. Interesting poem, ma.

Ma,I agree with you o, because sharing Gladness is what is really needed in our country now. Nigeria is too difficult that people are really going through a lot each day. But with sharing gladness, you can save a soul without even knowing it

God created us to be epitome and embodiment of joy, love and peace.showing and spreading God’s kindness should be one of our duties.what characterise our youth today is youthful exuberance at a full length.we no longer make good and cordial memories with our friends and folk.technology has changed everything. We should use technological inventions to spread good tidings even if the world is changing. A heart can be made whole because of your little actions so spread his love.

Sometimes I look and wonder if our technology has done more harm than good! This social media has taken away the litter things that matters and some times we see a picture of a friend or family member on these platform smiling happily but in the truth the person is dying silently but just trying to look happy on these social media! We should take time to check up on friends, neighbors, family members and people we know. Remain Blessed ma!

“Spread some gladness”, this is true. Most time people just need to be appreciated by others. Let us all try to be warm, polite and friendly at all times because we never know whose life we are impacting with those friendly gestures.

Indeed, we ought to spread gladness to people at all time. Make people around you feel happy. Let them know that they are not alone.
By so doing, the gladness you put in another person’s life will always come back to you in double fold.
    Good poem ma.

  • Adebanjo Adenike Rebecca

Spreading gladness through non verbal means of communication such as smiling, waving, winking in a good admiration.e.t.c. as little a smile could seem can help a colleague who is facing a hard time. A complement of another’s look, I will say it surely helps in reducing our fear and brightens our mood.

  • Nwatu Vera Chisom

Young people now fall into depression easily and it’s really sad. In this time and age when suicide is fast becoming an order of the day, spreading gladness through a simple smile or words of encouragement to people would really go a long way.

It is evident that technology has reduced personal interaction. Youths consider the internet very precious and forget the basic things they should have in common with one another which is very disastrous

Your smile could be someone’s reason for getting out of bed, you never can tell. So give everyone a warm smile, you never can tell what wonders your smile will do.

  • Boton Chiamaka Maryann

Technology has really become a barrier to our relationship with loved ones and interactions with others. Everyone wants to do their things online including checking up on people forgetting that little things matter.

  • Obajie Chinonyerem

Forget what we see on social media. Let’s check up on our love ones you don’t know how much that spreads smiles on their faces. Recently a friend staying in Lagos called to check if I was safe and okay in Enugu. The action changed my mood through out the day. Sometimes I see a friend and hug him/her and I always like how that changes their mood all the time (they tell me). It a silent way of telling them ‘you’re not alone, I care for you and you can tell me anything that’s bothering you and trust that I can help you in one way or the other.

  • Duru Gift Onyinyechi

Technology has actually made us forget reality. Our decisions, lifestyle and almost everything is controlled by technology. We need to learn to shower love on people physically and not just through social media. Thank you ma for sharing this fact.

  • Okpechi Amarachi

This technology has reduced the level of interactivity between people around us. We now channel all our energy to happenings on the socials

This is such a wonderful, short but interesting piece. We should endeavor to take a break from our technology devices and reconnect physically with the people around us instead of threading through the unhealthy path of technology devices and the social media.
