STAY WITH ME (POEM)

Intro:
When love is mutual and constant, it makes one feel rapturous and fulfilled, otherwise, it is so agonising and leaves a haunting effect on the yearning heart. This poem attempts to capture the latter and I hereby present two versions of it. I hope it provides you with some food for thought.

(Short version)

I sing to you, my love
I sing as my heart hurts tremendously
Stay with me and
cause my singing over you to ring out joyfully
Stay with me forever
Look no more to strangers
Stay with me

(Long version)

I sing to you, my love, I sing as my heart hurts tremendously
I sing with pain tinged with hope that holds out wondrously
What is my flaw that you keep wandering away intermittently?
Is it that I love you too much or that I love you so consistently?
Is it that I protect you from harm or provide for you faithfully?
Why do you only remember me when trouble comes dreadfully?
Please stay with me and look no more to strangers flirtatiously
Stay with me in submission, doing all I tell you conscientiously
Listen no more to he who says he’ll garnish your life fabulously
He feeds you with lies and wants you to always act pompously
He is after your soul but I came to give you life more abundantly
I want to love you now and hereafter, raise you up triumphantly
Stay with me and cause my singing over you to ring out joyfully
Stay with me so our love can draw men to its circle powerfully

Inspired largely by the Bible book of Hosea and some of my favourite scriptures a few of which are listed here as rendered in the King James Version:
Zephaniah 3:17
“The Lord thy God in the midst of thee is mighty; he will save, he will rejoice over thee with joy; he will rest in his love, he will joy over thee with singing.”
John 8:44
“… the devil …. He was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and the father of it.”
John 10:10
“The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.”
John 6:40
“And this is the will of him that sent me, that every one which seeth the Son, and believeth on him, may have everlasting life: and I will raise him up at the last day.”

Wow! Like a song writer said or used the phrase ‘reckless love of God’ I guess this was what it meant. I enjoyed every bit of it. Thanks

Thank you ma for this poem

  • Beautiful poem! Such a poignant thought that the Lord loves us so intimately even when we allow the voices of the evil one to lure our attention elsewhere. Lord, please forgive us, and help us to love You more! Amen.

  • I’ve enjoyed your poem just as much the second time around as the first! 🙂
Somehow it is convicting to see myself in parts of the poem and to realize that I have grieved the Holy Spirit of God with my unthankfulness and my tendency to become so easily distracted sometimes. Lord forgive me and help me to stay on track. He deserves all the praise and the glory for His consistent, faithful love!

God’s own kind of love is ever merciful, faithful and always flowing. Even when our love for Him is depreciating, His love for us is still sure.
The devil never gives a man something without adding pain, sorrow etc. to it but God’s love for mankind is immeasurable and is everlasting. We should never lean on man but always on God’s love for us.
And always love Him and acknowledge Him always in your life not only when you are in need or helpless…. God is Love(1John4vs8)……. More grace ma!

God’s love for us never ceases to amaze me. He is just too good for words, especially the way He pursues us when we stray from Him as He is doing in the poem.

  • Agi Comfort Obahi

Waow really a nice love poem
The poem portrays God’s love for us his unending love we therefore need to show Him how much we love him as well
Love is better felt when it is mutual.

The devil is not only a liar but s big 419 , his ways are that of evil, playing games with the devil is like when you play with broken bottles when you know very much that after which you would still get hurt, why does people engaged in an endless journey when very much they know the right path to follow, Jesus transport is the best, comfortability and pathway to everlasting life is assured. If you haven’t join the bus your on a long thing. God bless you Ma

Most times we are flirts in the sight of God. Just stand still and see the Salvation of God. It’s simply advises us to do away with things that takes us farther away from God and his will. Nice piece MA thanks

This is a short poem but full of lessons and advice.God loves us and he wants us to be with him always and not only when we are in need.the devil is only after the destruction of our soul so we should go closer to God whose love is unconditional and be with him for ever.Glory

God help me stay, though the other end is flashy, He wants us to stay. The world and it ruler may present things to draw us away from Him, He pleads we stay with him.

  • This poem may seem as though it refers to our lovers. But here, God is telling us that he loves us and implores us to return his love. Love should be a mutual feeling.

  • iheanyi ugochi elizabeth

God loves us so much to the extent of giving his only son and He is pleading to us to stay with him but we allow ourselves to be deceived by the devil who promise us worldly pleasure.

  • Kalu Divine Ogechi

This is simply the love of God towards us his children, so unconditional even in our unfaithfulness God remains faithful…God loves us so much and he is happy when we reciprocate the love and not hurt him…nice one ma..

  • Nwele Euphemia Uzoamaka

Its Amazing how God keeps loving us endlessly. In relation to relationships, whenever love is not a two way thing, one end suffers most

  • Nwankwo Amanda

God is love, He loves us so much that he made us out of His image and sacrificed His son to cleanse us of our sins. I imploy you to always show love

  • Okwor Donald

  • Paschal Odigonma Victoria

God used Hosea’s marital life to symbolize his love for the people of Israel. Anyone who is familiar with the story of Hosea and Gomer his faithless wife would deeply understand the true meaning of this poem. Our God is a faithful God even when his children are unfaithful.

  • Igbokwe ugochi onyedikachi

It really amazes me that despite all odds,God’s love is still there to remind us of his endless mercies. Thanks Aunty Edith. It’s like this write-up is for me- I’m definitely picking up my Bible tonight.

Oh I just love rhyming poems! They are always a delight. The poem is so heartwrenching. It touches even the depths of my soul. Christ is asking, begging us to stay with him. What has he not done for us that the devil promises to do, what has he not given us that satan promises to give. He loves us so so much that he wants us to always be with him and speak to him, not just in the times of tribulations. He says we should only stay with him and he will lift us up triumphantly. He will love us not just now but hereafter and give us life abundantly. I do not know whose love could be greater. I will stay with him, he whose love is so true, and I’ll never leave his side. I’ll try to love him as he has loved me and pray that in me, he’ll find a love as consistent . Thank you aunty

  • That’s the latest trend now. You turn to God only when our situation is dire and needs recovery. We need to incorporate the life of Thanksgiving and remembrance unto God. He has feelings also and if we continue to treat Him that way, there will come a time when we will have to truly seek Him with all our heart and spirit before he will hear us.

  • Eze Chioma

This poem talks about how we only turn to God in our time of help. We don’t give God the attention and love he wants and deserves. The poem also shows that despite this unrequited love, he loves and cares for us still, unfailingly. We need to start giving more attention to God, pray to him, thank him for the gift of live and other wonderful things he’s done for us. That’s all he asks of us.

  • Nnorom Wisdom Hillary

Whenever love is mutual and not one-sided, it makes one feel fulfilled. though this poems actually talks about God undying for us, it can also be related to humans.

  • Nwata Blessing Chinyere

  • Ejiofor Emmanuel

Stay with God, his love ever unfailing. stay with him, his love is undescribable. For his love for us, he gave his only son, so why don’t you stay with him?

  • Ani Gift Onyinyechi

God’s love for us is never ending. Everyday I’m in awe of why he continues to guide and protect despite my ungratefulness.
