10 BIBLE PASSAGES FOR BEATING DEMONIC OPPRESSION

Going by what the Lord Jesus accomplished for us by His death and resurrection, every child of God should be able to live completely free from the devil’s harassment. Look at the words our Saviour Himself spoke:

“Behold, I give unto you power to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy: and nothing shall by any means hurt you.” – Luke 10:19 (KJV)

The apostle, Paul, also gave us quite a few reminders:

“He disarmed the rulers and authorities and put them to open shame, by triumphing over them in him”. – Colossians 2:15

“For you have died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God.” – Colossians 3:3

“… at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth” – Philippians 2:10.

But it appears the devil and his associates are either hard of hearing or they just love to stir trouble to test if believers actually know their authority in Christ and if they can stand their ground thereby. I’m inclined to think the latter is the case.

What exactly is demonic oppression? It is the subjugating of someone by the powers of darkness in order to make his or her life miserable or unbearable.

Demonic oppression and harassment can come in many forms. The enemy can weigh us down with low spirits with or without reason. We may be melancholic because of difficulties in various aspects of life or inexplicably so.

[bctt tweet=”Demonic oppression is subjugation by the enemy to make one’s life unbearable.” username=”edithohaja1″]

Difficulties, themselves, may be dogging our steps – healthwise, financially, in our relationships, you name it! What others do with ease develop all manner of bottlenecks when we are involved. Those of us from idolatrous backgrounds may find that the devil and his underlings seem determined to enforce against us the terms of demonic covenants entered into by our forebears as though we were still under their authority. For example, a Christian who has renounced family idols and their associated covenants suffers repeated misfortune or accidents, seasonal sickness or constant disappointments.

These types of situations make some believers to observe that they seem to have more problems since they repented than before. This should actually be understandable if we realise the devil is unhappy we left his camp and would do whatever he can to discredit God and lure us back to his side. But we should hold on to our Redeemer and fight the enemy with the weapon we’ve been given: the word of God.

[bctt tweet=”Fight demonic oppression with the sword of the spirit: the word of God.” username=”edithohaja1″]

Below are some scriptures that have helped me in my own spiritual journey. Just keep building your arsenal of such scriptures and although the enemy can be relentless, he’ll always find you armed and ready when he comes with his arrows. While praying with the scriptures, call the spirits troubling you by name according to their activity (e.g. spirit of sickness, spirit of failure) and command them to get out of your life in Jesus’ name.

BIBLE PASSAGES FOR BEATING DEMONIC OPPRESSION

1. Jeremiah 10:11,10 (KJV)
“Thus shall ye say unto them, The gods that have not made the heavens and the earth, even they shall perish from the earth, and from under these heavens.
“But the Lord is the true God, he is the living God, and an everlasting king: at his wrath the earth shall tremble, and the nations shall not be able to abide his indignation.”

By transposing these verses, you have a killer passage that reminds lesser spirits that seek to usurp the place of God in your life and circumstances of their fate and that the living God, the Almighty, the Creator of heaven and earth, is your God.

2. Ephesians 2:6,1:21
“(God) raised us up with him and seated us with him in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus,
“far above all rule and authority and power and dominion, and above every name that is named, not only in this age but also in the one to come.”
(The word, “God”, used by me to replace “and”)

This is another case of rearrangememt for maxinmum benefit. We are way higher than the powers troubling us by the ranking of God shown here. They have no right to torment us. Based on these scriptures, we should order them to cease and desist from their wicked activities in the name of Jesus.

One of the common ways the devil attacks is through fear. He magnifies the negative circumstances we’re facing in our minds and torments us with all kinds of worst case scenarios. Sometimes, it seems like we’re about to lose our minds but we shouldn’t give him free rein. These are some of the scriptures you can use to chuck those fears away:

3. “For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.” – 2 Timothy 1:7 (KJV)

4. “I have set the Lord always before me: because he is at my right hand, I shall not be moved.” – Psalm 16:8 (KJV)

5. “In God, whose word I praise, in God I trust; I shall not be afraid. What can (the enemy) do to me?” – Psalm 56:4
(I used the words in brackets to replace the word, “flesh”.)

A big chunk of the devil’s ploys to unsettle and distress us centers around the deception that he is in control of the world and God is powerless to help us. The guy and his cohorts need some brutal reminders that where God is concerned, they stand no chance.

6. “But the LORD is with me like a mighty warrior; so my persecutors will stumble and not prevail. They will fail and be thoroughly disgraced; their dishonor will never be forgotten.” Jeremiah 20:11 (NIV)

7. “Thine hand shall find out all thine enemies: thy right hand shall find out those that hate thee. Thou shalt make them as a fiery oven in the time of thine anger: the Lord shall swallow them up in his wrath, and the fire shall devour them.” – Psalm 21:8-9 (KJV)

8. “And Jesus came and said to them, ‘All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me.'” – Matthew 28:18

As for the things you are still expecting God to do for you, don’t let the devil mock you about them because technically, they are yours already in Christ Jesus and will manifest in due season. When the devil comes to taunt you on those issues, taunt him back with these sciptures. I have paraphrased them here for that very purpose.

9. “I am complete in Christ, who is the head over all principalities and powers.” – Colossians 2:20

10. “All things are mine. Whether people, the world, or life, or death, or things present, or things to come; all are mine. And I am Christ’s; and Christ is God’s.” – 1 Corinthians 3:21-23

This last one which I love so much is a bonus.

“God’s divine power has given me all things that pertain unto life and godliness, through the knowledge of my Saviour, Jesus Christ. Get it? God HAS GIVEN ME ALL THINGS, both spiritual and temporal! Now hop it already!!!” – 2 Peter 1:3

However, when the situation threatens to ovewhelm you, ask brethren with a higher level of anointing to pray for you.

[bctt tweet=”Avoid sin because it would give the devil legal grounds to afflict you.” username=”edithohaja1″]

CONCLUSION
You’re a winner in Christ. Giving your life to Him is the best decision you’ve ever made. Just stay faithful by avoiding sin because that’s the devil’s territory and would give Him legal grounds to afflict you if you mess with it.
Remember your Saviour and Advocate with the Father, the Lord Jesus, is with you and will keep you to the end. So, cheer up and don’t let the devil stresss the life out of you! YOU ARE BLESSED!!!!!!!

“Behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.” – Matthew 28:20

  • Chikwado Ezeh

I would like to give my own quotation: Psalm 37:1-40. That’s my favourite part of the bible actually. Whenever I read it, it gives me hope, it makes me see reason to rejoice even in the midst of suffering. Thanks a lot aunty for this wonderful post.

    • Edith Ohaja

Glory to God! May He continue to sustain you by His word in Jesus’ name.

      • Doris Yahaya

I’m saved by the grace of God. The Lord has been faithful in helping to stand in Him. I had an experience this night that was strange. The powers of darkness tried to oppress me that they couldn’t succeed. I saw that there was a strong resistance from my spirit like light. After some minutes the forces that came to oppress left. And I was praying and I continue praying until I prayed out physically. I learnt from this that everyone who are genuinely saved in Christ can never be overcome by satan. But if they’re ignore Satan can take advantage of their ignorance to oppress them. Glory be to Jesus for the victory at the cross

  • UGWU, CHINAGOROM JOSEPH

Excellent. The Bible highlights the need or importance of knowledge (of God and his saving Words) when it says ” my people perish for lack of knowledge. If only everyone knows they have power and authority to chase and pursue the devil; if only we can harnes that power and authority our heavenly father has blessed us with; if only we show will-power to reject sin and allow the Word of God to be our watchword, we will not only be able to put the enemy in check and make the devil run away from us, but also end the devil’s dominion over us. As sin separates us from our God, it unites us with the devil thereby making us his Slaves. Lets therefore avoid it and leave the enemy disappointed, frustrated and powerless over us. God bless u, Ma.

  • EKWUEME VICTOR OBIORA

    This is indeed a timely message ma for the feeble believers who do not know their right and authority they wield in our supreme Lord, God and Saviour, -Jesus Christ. I strongly believe that this piece has open the eyes of every believer being molested by the powers of Darkness. You are doing a nice job ma. Keep winning, equipping and preparing souls for the Lord, Great is your reward ma. Here are some of my Isaiah warfare weapons: Associate yourselves, O ye people, and ye shall be broken in pieces;
and give ear, all ye of far countries:
    gird yourselves, and ye shall be broken in pieces;
gird yourselves, and ye shall be broken in pieces.
    Take counsel together, and it shall come to nought;
speak the word, and it shall not stand:
for God is with us. (Isa. 8: 9-10), And it shall come to pass in that day,
that his burden shall be taken away from off thy shoulder,
and his yoke from off thy neck,
and the yoke shall be destroyed because of the anointing. (Isa. 10:27), So shall they fear the name of the Lord from the west, and his glory from the rising of the sun. When the enemy shall come in like a flood, the Spirit of the Lord shall lift up a standard against him. (Isa. 59:19), Behold, they shall surely gather together, but not by me:
whosoever shall gather together against thee shall fall for thy sake.
Behold, I have created the smith
that bloweth the coals in the fire,
    and that bringeth forth an instrument for his work;
and I have created the waster to destroy.
    No weapon that is formed against thee shall prosper;
and every tongue that shall rise against thee in judgment thou shalt condemn.
This is the heritage of the servants of the Lord,
and their righteousness is of me, saith the Lord. (Isa. 54:15-17)

Thanks for sharing this Aunty. I have just gotten a particular passage that will help this period of my exams in school. I always enter exam hall with fear but 2Timothy 1:7 tells me that there is no need to fear .God bless you

    • Edith Ohaja

Glory to God! May God uproot that fear entirely by the power of His word and give you the confidence you need to face your exams and every other life challenge in Jesus’ name.

  • amadifenwankwo Stanley C

Nice quotations but I don’t know much about bible quotations

    • Edith Ohaja

Ok. First of all, you need to be born again and start reading the word of God under the guidance of the Holy Spirit for Bible verses to mean much to you. May God bring you to that point soon in Jesus’ name.

  • Anioke Eberechukwu

The piece is well written as always.

  • Aniooke Somadina Eberechukwu

This is inspiring. God’s word is truly our sword of the spirit to overcome demonic threats. Glory be to God for the gift of His word.

    • Edith Ohaja

Amen. May we continually fill ourselves with that word as it is also the bread of life in Jesus’ name. You are lifted, Somadina, in Jesus’ name.

      • Rev Lazarus A E Usang

Wonderful, excellent and scripturally anotated work to help those in real need of these several help.

    • Edith Ohaja

Amen! We are not helpless in the face of attacks from the enemy. God has equipped us to defeat him. Hallelujah!

  • Aniooke Somadina Eberechukwu

Halleluyah! We are victorious in Christ

  • Mbadugha Ifeanyi

“But it appears the devil and his associates are either hard of hearing…” haha, very true. We already have the weapons, all that remains is to use them. Thank you ma for this eye opener.

    • Edith Ohaja

It does seem like that sometimes, you know. May God strengthen us to pray and and see victory over the enemy’s attacks in Jesus’ name.

  • Another great article, Edith. I think one of the worst and most effective ways the devil attacks us is through fear and anxiety. Since fear is the opposite of love, it makes sense, since Satan is the opposite of God, who is Love. We will often be attacked when we are on the verge of doing something important for God. Your Scripture passages are a great resource in times of spiritual attack. Thanks for sharing & God bless you!

    • Edith Ohaja

Glory to God and thanks a whole lot, Gloria! It’s always a delight to hear from you. You’re right. The enemy often times his attacks to bring discouragement and stop us from taking the next big step but if we hold on to God by His word, we will overcome. Abundant blessings on you and yours in Jesus’ name.

  • Amos Janet

Wow…thanks a lot ma for this article. The honest truth is this piece just hit the nail at the point of my need. Recently, I was beginning to question God about some certain things going on in my life but thank God for this article. I feel like a new lease of life has just been injected into my relationship with Christ. Thanks a lot ma.

    • Edith Ohaja

Glory to God! The Lord of hosts is our God. He is mightier than anything that rises against us. He will keep and defend His own and shame the enemy where we are concerned in Jesus’ name.

  • Abasibiangake

Thank you so much for sharing. You said, “However, when the situation threatens to ovewhelm you, ask brethren with a higher level of anointing to pray for you”. I’ll like to add that it’s good to have to brethren pray for you and better to also have them pray WITH you.
Once again, thank you ma for sharing.

    • Edith Ohaja

Leave the semantics, Iby! I doubt that you can successfully establish a difference between the two. You are blessed in Jesus’ name.

  • Ogechi

A dear woman of God once preached that sometimes we may have made one covenant or the other without knowing, to these demons. It therefore requires the spirit of God to reveal the deepest secrets to us. And to tell us what to do about them.
It doesn’t stop with the spiritual aspect we still need to get involved physically but to an extent.
    Very encouraging!

    • Edith Ohaja

What you pointed out is very important. Any time we are praying, we need to do it under the leading of the Holy Spirit if we want to accomplish much. Praying intellectually alone doesn’t get us very far. You are highly blessed, Ogechi, in Jesus’ name.

  • Anyaka Osmond Ifeanyi

Getting involved with God is very crucial in a man’s life. I believe in God and I know that no demon can trample on me because of God’s grace on my life. . Nice write up ma.. Keep spreading the gospel. The Lord is with you

    1 Peter 5:8-11 – Hallelujah and Amen!!

Be alert and of sober mind. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour. Resist him, standing firm in the faith, because you know that the family of believers throughout the world is undergoing the same kind of sufferings.
And the God of all grace, who called you to his eternal glory in Christ, after you have suffered a little while, will himself restore you and make you strong, firm and steadfast. To him be the power for ever and ever. Amen.

  • Okorafor Nneoma Confidence

thank you ma for this piece, this arms us against demonic attacks so we know which passage of the bible to read to be reinforced against such attacks

    • Edith Ohaja

There are many more and they should be used under the leading of the Holy Spirit. The important thing is to read our Bible daily and pray with the Spirit’s help.

  • odo chidera

No lies.. Somebody like me.. Inever believed that the bible can protect me..till I witnessed on. I almost died.. Back then in secondary school days..#stc..

But the bible z as an amour or shield z stronger than the shield of #captain America..
The passages listed above, the devil z afraid to go 20km radius.
They are to the demon what sniper is to insects.
Believe in the bible it saves

  • Eze Jude Chinedu

I like this picture and comment because it reminds me when one Reverend told me that without gloriuos protection that is following me(I would have died many years ago) God is tremendous that is the reason he fights spiritually for his people especially you Edith Ohaja and myself Eze Jude Chinedu.

  • Henrietta Okoye

Most Christians sometimes suffer demonic oppression because we do not know the word of God.. Lack of knowledge has killed so many Christians.. There was a time I was going through so many demonic oppressions and at a point after their attack one night that they almost killed me I was angry with myself and I opened the Bible and I discovered his words of protection He promised in psalm 91and used it against them since then they don’t try their rubbish oppressions around me…

  • Florence onyekaozuru

It is really painful that Christians do not know their right, they allow the devil who does not have any right torment them, when the love message(bible)God had given to us contains words that we can use to put the devil under our feet. these passages reaffirmed to me that I am indeed a small god on earth and have the right over every dark power of the enemy. thank u ma for this encouraging post

  • Ajibo Lovelyn Onyedikachi

There is nothing the enemy uses to weigh us down like financial issues , I have fallen a victim of this in many occasions, in the time of difficulties, the enemy finds this time as the most comfortable time to penetrate in our lives thereby filling our minds with evil decisions . but thank God for his word that says I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me. God always manifest his Grace and power in my life

  • DIM CHIKODIRI VIVIAN

Temptation for every christian is not a bad thing. JESUS was tempted as well but he overcomed the devil. Satan tempt us with what we think is our problem or need at that point in time. Satan is very cunny, he comes to us in our weakest moment to take us away from GOD with alot of fake promise. I can never be deceived and I pray that God give us the grace and strength to always fight the devil no matter any means he decide to plan it.

  • Eze emmanuel friday

The devil is always tempting us in various ways, it is only by the power and grace of God that we can overcome temptation. Satan gives and takes so anything he is promising anybody, just know that he will take it from you somehow.

  • Uzor Victoria

Fight demonic oppression by staying true to Gods word and conscious effort to remain steadfast in prayers would go a long way in rebuking the devil in your life.

  • Anabude oluchi

Well said ma! Knowledge of these powerful Bible verses makes us withstand the devil and his agents.

  • Ogbonnaya Noble Comfort

I make bold to say that for the fact I have Christ in my life, I have sufficient grace to withstand the wiles of the devil.
