“Hold my hand,’ He said.
“But Lord, You’re much stronger than I. Wouldn’t it be safer if YOU held my hand?”
“I always hold you, my dear,” He replied. “But the road is going to get rough. For your own peace of mind, do hold me as well.”
I had this conversation with the Lord many years ago. At that time, I had no idea the kind of turbulence I will face in my life. God asked me not to rest in the knowledge that He was holding me alone, but to engage myself in holding Him as well. He wanted me to put my faith to work so that even when He seemed inactive, even when He seemed silent, even when my circumstances seemed to overwhelm me; I won’t be overcome, I won’t give up because I’m fiercely holding onto Him.
Sometimes life is like that. There are periods of dryness and denseness or even total darkness. God may seem far away at such times. We may not feel His presence or His power. It is at such times that we need to hold onto Him tightly and tell Him:
“Though I may not see You, You are here
I may not hear it, Your voice is near
I will hold onto Your hand for safekeeping
And You will pull me through with thanksgiving”
That is what happened to me. That was how God delivered me from that season of intense demonic oppression. I am a survivor, a trophy of God’s grace, as I often like to call myself.

How did I hold God’s hand? By devouring His word. It built unshakeable faith in me (Romans 10:17). I put my confidence in what His word said even though the things I saw were contrary. By exercising my faith in God’s word, I was holding onto His hand even though by my circumstances and experiences, I could have given up because I wasn’t feeling the superior pressure of His hand upon mine. No wonder He said, “You hold me; exert the effort for this spell, hold My hand.”
I want to encourage you today. Are you at a time in your life when God seems distant or uncaring? Remember He is not defined by what you are passing through or what you might be feeling at the moment. He is the same yesterday, today and forever. Your circumstances may vary, but God remains as loving and faithful as His word says He is.God is not defined by your circumstances, experience or feelings, but by His word. Click To Tweet
“For I am the Lord, I change not …” – Malachi 3:6.
“Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning” – James 1:17.
“5. … he hath said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee. 8. Jesus Christ the same yesterday, and to day, and for ever.” – Hebrews 13:5,8
You know what you should do? Stock up on God’s word in your heart. And hold on to Him. Call out to Him according to the testimony of His word and He will come through for you in His faithfulness. Do not lose heart because of the howling of the wind and how treacherous your path looks. At the end of the trial, you will be closer to God than you were before and you will become an instrument for His glory.Hold fast to God no matter how the wind howls or how slippery the path before you. “1. I will bless the Lord at all times: his praise shall continually be in my mouth.
3. O magnify the Lord with me, and let us exalt his name together.
4. I sought the Lord, and he heard me, and delivered me … .
8. O taste and see that the Lord is good: blessed is the man that trusteth in him.
9. O fear the Lord, ye his saints: for there is no want to them that fear him.
11. Come, ye children, hearken unto me: I will teach you the fear of the Lord.” – Psalm 34:1,3,4,8,9,11
In the passage above, the psalmist testifies of God’s deliverance and embarks on a mission of teaching others to praise, serve and trust the Lord. All that is encompassed in fearing the Lord.
But before that can happen, you need to give God access to your life through our Lord Jesus. God manifests Himself through Jesus, His Son, whom He sent to die for us. When you accept Jesus as your Lord and Saviour, you not only grant God access but control over your life.
“Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me.” – Revelation 3:20
“Ye call me Master and Lord: and ye say well; for so I am.” – John 13:13
God can then forewarn you of the dangers ahead and tell you how to navigate them.
“And thine ears shall hear a word behind thee, saying, This is the way, walk ye in it, when ye turn to the right hand, and when ye turn to the left.” – Isaiah 30:21
“I will instruct thee and teach thee in the way which thou shalt go: I will guide thee with mine eye.” – Psalm 32:8

Here is an example from the life of Apostle Paul of God’s leading during the troubling time that followed his conversion:
“17. And it came to pass, that, when I was come again to Jerusalem, even while I prayed in the temple, I was in a trance; 18. And saw him saying unto me, Make haste, and get thee quickly out of Jerusalem: for they will not receive thy testimony concerning me.
19. And I said, Lord, they know that I imprisoned and beat in every synagogue them that believed on thee:
20. And when the blood of thy martyr Stephen was shed, I also was standing by, and consenting unto his death, and kept the raiment of them that slew him.
21. And he said unto me, Depart: for I will send thee far hence unto the Gentiles.” – Acts 22:17-21
(You can pray the salvation prayer at the end of the post to settle this most important issue of life.) And for those who have already done this:
“Hold my hand.” Is the Lord telling you that today? Then don’t be afraid of any impending storm, how bumpy the road seems, how dark the skies.
“Hold onto My hand for safekeeping
I will pull you through with thanksgiving”

The scriptures used in this post are from the King James Version of the Holy Bible.
If you would like to accept Jesus as your Lord and Saviour, you may pray this short prayer:
PRAYER FOR SALVATION
Almighty God, I repent of my sins and ask you to forgive me. I receive the work Jesus did for me by shedding His blood for my sins. Write my name in the Lamb’s Book of Life and send your Spirit to live in my heart and teach me your word. I receive the grace to live a life that honours you henceforth in Jesus’ name. Amen.
Now, you are born again. Join a Bible-believing group of believers to help you learn, through studying the word of God and prayer, how to live and practise your faith. You are blessed in Jesus’ name.
