As The Moon Without The Sun, So Are We Without God

I’ve been reflecting on the parallels between our relationship with God and that between the Sun and the Moon.

Many people think the Moon has its own light which is more subdued than that of the Sun. No, it doesn’t. The Moon merely reflects the Sun, which is a big ball of gas that glows and gives off heat due to the chemical processes within it.

The Moon stays in orbit around the Sun like this terrestrial ball we live on, the Earth. It maintains its course around the Sun and the Earth, that is why it serves its purposes of illuminating the darkness of the night and helping mankind to count time and seasons.

In the same way, our God is great and glorious. He is loving and kind and holy. In short, as Songs of Solomon 5:16 rightly says, “He is altogether lovely.”

Although we are made in His image, we do not automatically exhibit His character. However, when our lives revolve around Him like the Moon steadily orbiting the Sun, we reflect His admirable personality and become useful to people around us and the world.

As the moon is a dull grey mass on its own, so are we unremarkable and spiritually unattractive without God. The Moon is nothing without the Sun. In like manner, we are nothing without God.

So, how much of God does the world see through you? How much of His love, mercy, compassion and power? How much of His wisdom and vision?

I hope you meditate on this today and redirect your life to God if you’re far from Him by accepting Jesus as your Lord and Saviour.

Have a blessed day!
