BLESSING UPON THE PEACEABLE (Poem) A tribute to GEJ (Ex-President Jonathan)

During the 2015 presidential elections, then president, Dr. Goodluck Ebele Jonathan emphasised that his desire to stay in office was not worth the blood of any Nigerian.

On the contrary, his major opponent, Rtd General Muhammadu Buhari, had threatened bloodshed if he lost his bid in the past election (2011) and the violence unleashed by his supporters claimed the lives of many Nigerians. He made similar threats during the 2015 elections, so although he could have manipulated the electoral process as the incumbent president or contested the results on some legitimate grounds, Jonathan conceded defeat promptly to the annoyance of his staunch supporters.

Ironically, since Buhari assumed office, Nigeria has seen more bloodshed at peace time than she has ever witnessed in her history. Between Boko Haram, Fulani herdsmen and bandits, Nigerians have been slaughtered in their thousands in the North and the Middle Belt. The army has also killed many IPOB supporters in the South-east and Shi’ites in the North-central during Buhari’s tenure.

My heart goes out to the families of soldiers who are being decimated through a bungled offensive against Boko Haram; to surviving troops who, malnourished and underequipped, are daily exposed to attacks from Boko Haram; families uprooted and living in IDP camps for years; villagers living in fear and incessantly abducted by Boko Haram – the men to join their ranks and the women to serve as wives and sex slaves to the insurgents; communities constantly raided by insurgents seeking food and livestock…. We were told a retired general would end the crises with a wave of the hand.

of Goodluck Ebele Jonathan)

That is why today, as he celebrates his 61st birthday, I want to use this short poem to pay tribute to Jonathan, a true man of peace. There is so much more I can say in praise of Jonathan but I just want to focus on this. I first posted the poem on social media when he handed over to Buhari and my prayer now is the same as then: that God would value his life as he valued that of his compatriots and continue to promote him. I also pray God to speedily deliver us from this administration under which we have seen so much needless bloodshed. Amen in Jesus’ name.

Blessing upon the peaceable (Poem) A tribute to GEJ
(Ex-President Jonathan)

He who upholds the sanctity of human life
The Lord God shall surely bless
He shall keep you safe even when troubles are rife
And forever, He shall be your solace

When personal ambition is pursued at all cost
It can deaden the conscience
And if unity, peace and safety are all lost
Gaining power makes no sense

The Lord fashioned us in His image
And warned us, “Do not kill”
We must abhor selfishness and carnage
If we want our land to heal

At a time like this when the country is at the brink of war, we need a leader who has the country’s peace at heart, a man like GEJ man who foresaw war and bloodshed and averted it. We need a great leader like him. Happy birthday and long life to GEJ!

  • Verse 3 succinctly reflects his personality. God bless GEJ. Nice poem ma, as always.
And I honestly wish Nigerians can do some Deep thinking ahead of the 2019 General Election.

  • Oluwaseyitan

That part in the intro about all the hardships the Boko Haram sect and its ilk are causing peaceful, Nigerian people is particularly touching and heart-rending. One continues to wonder what this current crop of ‘leaders’ stands to gain by looking on while such senselessness prevails under their watch.
I join in the prayers, ma. May God arise with healing for Nigeria. Only in God we trust.

  • Special mummy of the faculty! Thanks for this wonderful poem. I can’t just help praying for this amiable man who has made himself an embodiment of emulation by being an exemplary man of peace. My prayer for this passionate man is that he will never experience any bloodshed in his family just the way he had saved Nigeria from unnecessary bloodshed; all the days of his life, he shall sing praise to the Lord for the goodness and mercy of God shall follow him. Amen!

  • Abugu Samson ifeanyi

Dr Goodluck Ebele Jonathan is a man of peace and he practised real democratic system of government. My prayer is that God in his infinity mercy will one day give us a leader, not a ruler- someone who will be ready to lead everyone without discrimination or ethnic interest.

Dr Goodluck Ebele Jonathan, the president of all presidents of my country that I have ever fallen in love with. You are very patriotic, Sir. Happy birthday in arrears. May God bless you with many more years. And my dear journalistic model, thanks for appreciating the peace maker.

  • Anabude oluchi

Quite a touching poem. Indeed Goodluck Jonathan stands as a role model for our politicians to emulate and would forever remain in the hearts of the people because of his wise decision not to act selfishly. My prayer is that God would continue to keep him and make available individuals with his type of personality to occupy the strategic seats in this country and then the country would be a better place.

  • Nnachetam Favour

GEJ was the only Nigerian president that had the interest of the people at heart, he is indeed a selfless man.
    May my God keep you.

  • Chukwuneke adaeze jennifer

Yes, ex-president Goodluck Jonathan was the only solution and medicine Nigeria needed buh because of how blind many of us were, we vote for the devil to rule us..which now affects everybody. He was the only president Nigeria had that reasoned like a human being. All he wanted was what was best for us. If he was still in power now, I am very sure that ASUU would not be playing with our education. He would have given them what they deserve. I just pray that God should bless him for doing our country Nigeria good. And that God also should use his holy hands to appoint a new president that will rule this great nation and bring good things our way.

  • Agned

May God continue to bless him as he puts the people first. A rare gem indeed.

  • Olawole Ebenezer

“A tribute to GEJ;” every “King” deserves a tribute and indeed GEJ does too. If there’s one thing I know its that hard times have always been and hardest times are coming soon. But even in all these troubles, help is always available. A few years ago, Nigeria’s help was GEJ and a couple of years from now, even today, more help will arise. For example, me- “I am the light of the world; I am help to my generation!” We are going to change this country!!! God bless Jonathan.

  • Abugu Samson ifeanyi

Only God can solve our problems, nothing is impossible before God, one day we shall have a kind of president like Good luck Ebele Jonathan, sure with prayer all things gonna be OK.

  • Nwankwo Chinonyelum Gladys

If Goodluck Jonathan was re-elected,i´m sure Nigeria would have been better but all the same,he made a selfless decision by considering the lives of Nigerians first unlike other politicians who see politics as a do or die affair. Politicians should learn from his example rather than being selfish and greedy to the detriment of the citizens. Happy birthday in arrears sir. May God keep blessing you. AMEN

  • Stephens Chinecherem Grace

GEJ is one man I will always respect. He is a good example to prove that not all politicians are indifferent about the situations of the people he was elected to serve. His conceding to defeat to safeguard the life of millions of Nigerians, will always be remembered in the history of Nigeria. I wish him all the best

  • Epunam obianuju

president good luck Jonathan was a great president and I think his reign is far better than this present government. At least the economy was better then than now.. So I think he deserves a thumbs up for it.

  • Isaac sopuruchi

The worst is that the people who are suppose to be protecting us are the cause of our problems.
    God bless GEJ

  • Akpali francess

only God will help us in this country.

  • Okibe Mercy

It is very hard to find a man who has the people’s interest at heart. it’s said that action speaks louder than words,we can all see a wise decision and action taken by Goodluck Jonathan, and even the so called retired army general who made heaven and earth promises did not keep one . God bless Goodluck Jonathan.

  • Bob Charles Ngene

Jonathan should be celebrated and honoured in Nigeria because he threaded the path that the mighty dare to thread. I was in the federal capital territory during the 2015 general election and I thank God every day of my life for the miracle he performed through Jonathan. If he hadn’t conceded power to Buhari, I am certain I will not be alive to see this day. My prayer is that God bless him and his generation. May he also deliver us from the snares of despotic leaders Amen

A Man that lives according to his name, Goodluck. When this man was in power, things were moving smoothly in the country…You are the best president so far

  • Ozukwe Mirian chisom

Dr. Ebele Jonathan is a man of peace and democracy. He is a man who put the interest of the people first before any other thing. May God continue to bless and strengthen him. He was indeed the best president if only he was allowed to prove his worth. A special thanks to the mummy of our dept. of mass communication.

  • Michael Ebuka Ogidi

GEJ is a peace loving man, he was well understands Nigeria’s problem and was ready to salvage them but he was surrounded by greedy set of people. He has the ability of taking Nigeria to the promise land but wasn’t given the chance. Baba, we miss you.
    Long live GEJ

  • Eze Blessing Ada

We should be grateful to God that Nigeria has once had a leader that put his people into consideration first, a lover of peace and democracy. Our once able president Good luck Ebele Jonathan deserves a thumb up for that. I pray we get a leader like him again, so that the story of our country will change.

  • Okoloji kosisochukwu Vivian Okolo

When goodluck Jonathan was our president, most people were too blind to see his good, some said his weak………
No wonder the saying, you will not know the value of something till u lose it……
I still wish a person with such good intention will lead us again

  • Ominaki Pamela

This poem tell us about how sacred life is and how we are supposed to respect it. We should not be power hungry and we should know when to draw the line.

  • BROWN FAVOUR

Goodluck proved to us that they are still people with good heart. His demonstration alone as marked him as the man of good heart, although some people called him a weak man, but he did the needful for peace to reign in the society he loves and people that was patrioted to him. Amen ma for your prayers for him and even more.

  • I pray that the light of functional conscience be rekindled in the heart of men especially in Nigeria and the current regime of governance where there is no respect for human life, that the peace of God will take over.

  • Chidebe uchechukwu cyprain

Mummy your poem about this one-time president that Nigerians will never forget even in a million years to come was very laconic.
It will only take a good leader who has the interest of his people as a primary priority to do what former president Goodluck Jonathan did for Nigerians.
At least Nigeria today has given us an insight into what he did for us, because ever since the current president took over Nigerians have been bemoaning.

  • Good luck was a very good, kind, compassionate man and a good president, when he was the president of this country things going were moving very well, we didn’t suffer unlike now he was not a selfish type unlike other leaders he also considers, the feelings of his people when he wants to act. I wish other leaders can learn from him.

  • Awaka vivian

During the tenure of Goodluck ebele Jonathan Nigerians had little complaints because of the cases of insurgency. But now we pray for the days of Goodluck to come again, Cos everything seems to be worst, hunger, war, and poverty…. I pray God comes to our aid?

  • Blessing Udeobasi

Goodluck was indeed a hero and role model every leader should look up to. His footprints are worth following and his actions worth emulating. It is sad to know that good people don’t last, they give us a breath of fresh air and just when we start enjoying the fresh air, they are taken away from us by evil ones who then refuses to leave us.
If only our leaders will learn to be like him.
My God help this country by giving us people like GEJ to lead us through.

    • Ezeh John Onyekachi

Dr. Goodluck Ebele Jonathan is a man of distinguished personality, a definition of true peace, an epitome of a true democrat ,a true lover of Nigeria. He debunked the popular saying that,”Politics is a do or die affairs “.He falsified that popular notion when he said that his political ambition did not worth the blood of any Nigerian. Jonathan proved this statement when he conceded defeat during 2015 Presidential election and congratulated PMB, that blood thirsty and ambitious man,who said,” if i lost election in 2015,baboon and monkey would be soaked in blood” .Even when it was conspicuous that the process was marred by lots of irregularities.
Jonathan is a patriotic leader and a true lover of this country. A man who accepts insults with magnanimity. He never wanted any Nigerian to perish , not even the terrorists. All he wanted was to have a Nigeria that was free of terrorism. His desire was that even the terrorists would repent and be saved.
One of the of the ways he devised to achieve a terror free Nigeria was the introduction of Almajiri school, in the north. Which was targeted at educating those vulnerable children on the street. Whom the northern leaders would always use as tools for achieving their evil ambition.
Long live GEJ,long live the man of peace, long live a selfless leader, long live his family. Blessed is the peace maker for he shall be called a child of God.
Happy birthday at 61, to a man of analytical precision. Nigerians need you again.
This poem is a powerful reminiscence of the sacrificial leadership of a an Iroko of peace and good will. Thanks ma for this good work.dallu rinne, ndewo, sanu da aiki nagode, oshe o!

  • Blessing obidudu

It’s like the saying goes “you do not know the value of what you have until u loose it”. We had GEJ but Nigerians didn’t know his value especially the northerns who now cry basically every day for help.

  • Oma

God bless GEJ , he is a true portrayal of democracy and i pray God deliver us from this present hardship called government .
Also God’s solace on the affected victim.

  • Nnamani Oluoma Esther

When former president Goodluck Jonathan lost the election to President Buhari, people called him a coward. People felt that he should have done more to keep his seat as the president. They don’t know that politics is a lot more than that. Goodluck Jonathan was a wise man and he willingly allowed Buhari win for peace to reign. I believe that even if he is not rewarded here on earth, his reward would come from God. He is an icon that should be celebrated.

  • Amana Sharon Umola

During the elections, I heard from some elders at home that no president has ever accepted the electoral results like this great man. He indeed painted a picture that life is not a do or die affair. The quest to get power at all cost is terrible as this bid yo get power with end up with casualties. He understood this and congratulated the winner without I’ll feelings. This is Wisdom.

  • Kat

Yay! I just love poems so much, especially the ones that rhyme and isn’t it sweet of you, writing for such a good man? ?. Our former president is surely deserving of the honor and I also pray that God keeps him long on earth for not sacrificing the lives of his people on the alter of political ambition. Indeed, we can’t say the same of our current president?. Anyway, it’s really a lovely poem aunty

  • Euphemia Nwele

Well, Nigeria don’t know what they have till they lose it. Yes indeed we have lost it, and trying to correct it now makes no sense since this is obviously no longer a Democratic government.

“And if unity, peace and safety are all lost
    Gaining power makes no sense”
This line of the poem says it all.
    God bless Nigeria

  • Eze chinyere

Indeed, I admire the qualities of the past president. He left the presidential seat to protect the masses and ensure that peace reigns in the country. The poem is also nicely written; you made good use of poetic devices to pass the message across.
    Happy birthday to him!

  • Abonyi chisom E

Honestly, GEJ is a great hero of this country. A man you wants peace to reign in our country. A man who considers other people well being. God will reward him. Goodluck has the qualites of a Good leader i pray that our present leader will emulate from him.

We never knew what we were getting ourselves in when we elected a former general to ”really end the crisis with a wave of his hand”, but we know better now. Not a prophecy but come more three years he will live for good. Meanwhile i celebrate our former president, you were better …God bless Nigeria

  • Onu Tochukwu

You are lifted.

  • Chukwuma Wilfred

Such a man like our Ex- President, Dr. Goodluck Ebele Jonathan is just a blessing to this country and a man with a good and clear intention for his people. I am still surprised he had to offer one of the greatest political sacrifices for the safety of all that dwell in the country.

  • Ukwueze Oluchi B.

Goodluck Jpnathan is a man that Nigerians realised his worth when they tested another government. Right now, they desire him back in ASO ROCK. The current Government had raised alarm of corruption against Jonathan’s government, but Nigerians have realised that it was a ruse to achieve political support.

  • Annabelle Orji

Any man who can understand that no kind of ambition or power is worth the blood of another human being is definitely one led by the Spirit. At this time, Nigeria seems to be going through very tough times and all we need is a man of peace like GEJ to restore the sanity we had and also intensified prayers to stop this bloodshed.

      Beautiful poem ma
God have use the actions of our former president Good luck Ebere Jonathan to set template for all Nigerians and the world. This word of his will never be forgotten, the sacredness of human blood is not worth taken for any desire of another man. Thank you for being the light amidst darkness, you have shown us the light and you will continue to be our role model.

  • Ekwe ifeanyichukwu

No human life is worth the struggle for power..GEJ portrayed a high sense of love for humanity, and therefore should be seen as a living Legend of our time.

  • Onyeka Stanley

GEJ is a man worthy of emulation .His gentility is what people should aspire. Regardless of the shortcomings that befall his administration, he’s still the best.

  • ErnestValentine

I may not be wrong if I am asked in an exam, “What is peace and democracy?” And my answer becomes, “Goodluck Jonathan”. Nigeria will continue to suffer doom until we attain that level of political consciousness that makes for the support of aspiring leaders, not because they threatened us but because they merit our trust and mandate. May the souls of all our brothers and sisters who died from the cuts and bullets of hoodlums under the tyranny of our present leader rest in peace.

  • Chiamaka Chukwu

Leadership is about people, it has nothing to do with any title. Being a leader is not easy. Every individual is different from the other and come from different background, and has different thought process. If you want to be a true leader, you must have passion and commitment, innovations, power of positivity and inspire the younger generation positivity. And this was what GEJ did. Thank you Goodluck Ebere Johnathan and thank you ma for this beautiful poem.

  • GEJ, the best civilian president Nigeria could ever wish for. He not only enforced education in the North but always tried to put an end to embarrassing case of the ‘Alamajaris’. its such a pity that the myopic north and tribalistic approach of the northern politicians didn’t allow them see the greater good in GEJ.

  • Igbo chukwuemeka Kingsley

GEJ, the best civilian president Nigeria ever, a man full of philanthropist idea, selfless and dedicated, he stopped a serious second civil war that would have erupted. I admire his personality so much.

  • Onah ukamaka blessing

Leadership is all about a leader doing his duty as one, being a leader is not easy ,GEJ displayed a very good characteristics as one which he was, he averted another tragic moment in Nigeria, if he didnt accept the outcome of the general election in 2015, only God knows what would have happened. I crave for his personality.

  • Ndiwe Vivian

GEJ will always remain in our hearts as one of the best civilian president Nigeria could ever ask for. He’s a good man in all ramifications. God will continue to bless him.

  • Some people are born to be leaders while others allow themselves and the society to turn them into devilish politicians that does not care about the masses. Well, GEJ made a drastic peaceful and noiseless movement, since he envisaged the tragic moments coming. i refer to him as epitome of peaceful entity.

  • Melekwe Anthony E

“We must abhor selfishness and carnage
If we want our land to heal”
I agree. We can not continue to shed innocent blood in this country and expect the Nigeria to rise from her peers at the third world level.
Not just the politicians or the terrorists, we civilians have become as bloody. How many of us pray for the country or even our coming generation? Rather, we prefer to burn our country with crudely and “cursely” cliches.
    God help us!

  • Anorue John-Daniel Kelechi

Nigeria is in the hands of the Almighty and only through him can we be saved. The man GEJ said yes to Jesus by accepting defeat peacefully, this action of his would go down history as one that kept the peace of Nigeria.

I do hear people saying a lot of things about Goodluck Ebelechukwu Jonathan. No a politician but there is sometime remarkable about him that most people done know. GEJ. is a man of peace who believes that there is a reason for everything and this particular action saved this nation from chaos, anarchy and doom.

His selflessness is what everyone need to emulate, though he wasn’t perfect, but he was all that we needed in a leader, its quite unfortunate that we found out late after supporting the change movement.
Goodluck Jonathan has been written in the walls of history as a peace maker and peace lover, and so, peace will not depart his family. The prayers conveyed through this poem shall be his portion.

Truly he is a man of peace
He really did his best for this country even though at the time we did not really appreciate him… But nevertheless I am glad we have come to know and acknowledge the fact that he truly is a man of peace… It is sad though that he had to leave the seat for us all to realize that.

  • Aniebo Beauty

The worst is that the people who are suppose to be protecting us are the cause of our problems. God bless GEJ

  • Goodluck Ebele Jonathan a man that intrigues me with his calmness and peaceful nature. He is someone who did what was sort of impossible. I was so shocked when I saw that an incumbent President could let go of power for the purpose of peace. May his sacrifice not be in vain. Long live Jonathan, long live Nigeria.

  • Urama Emmanuel

Mummy! Thanks for this wonderful poem. Indeed Jonathan is a man of peace. I can’t just help praying for this amiable man who has made himself an embodiment of emulation by being an exemplary man of peace. My prayer for this passionate man is that he will never experience any bloodshed in his family just the way he had saved Nigeria from unnecessary bloodshed; Let’s come together and emulate Jonathan for he is a symbol of peace as far as Nigeria is concerned…..God bless u ma.

  • Ugwu Janet Chizoa

A poem of four lines per stanza. The main theme of the poem is in the first line of the second stanza. I love to say, “GoodLuck Jonathan Won the heart of the people by loosing”.

  • Ijoma Chisom Jessica

Yes, I know that today is not President GEJ’s birthday, but I couldn’t pass by without dropping a comment to appreciate a man who for me is the greatest president our country has ever had .. a role model for leadership because of his selfless decision to protect my life and that of my country’s men!! • Maduabuchi christiana chinechetam

  • Mark Favour

A man with an unpurchaseable attribute of peace,
Whose smiles give away the beauty that lies in his heart
A man who values creation beyond his ambition.
A man who prefers to negotiate than to let war decimate the lives of his people.
    A leader to behold.

  • Orisakwe Ezinne

Goodluck Ebere Jonathan was indeed an instrument of peace. During his regime, I remembere vividly how he put his time into fighting Boko haram with all the help he could get and also how he strived to keep Nigerian citizens safe.
The case of bloodshed and killings were minor compared to this present reign. Nigeria as a country lost a great man who has all the qualities of a leader(no1: Selflessness).
May God protect and guide him always and also bring Nigeria more leaders like him.Amen.

  • Chioma P

Nigerian former president was a blessing in disguise. A man who was selfless and wanted peace at all cost. We are assured of better things in the future

  • Akarule Adaeze Goodness

It is such a shame that a great country like this keeps pushing away Wonderful leaders. Personally I see Good luck Jonathan for what he did some people called him coward not knowing that their lives would have been on the line if he hadn’t conceded. It is well. May this country flourish again and may all the excess bloodshed seize. Amen.

  • Akarule Adaeze Goodness

I wonder why a country this great pushes away wonderful leaders like Good luck Jonathan. Personally for me I consider him a hero and a peaceful person, while some people saw him as a coward, not knowing that their lives would have been on the line if he hadn’t stepped down. I pray Nigeria flourishes again , excess killings seize and that we get more selfless leaders like him again. Amen

  • Goodluck Ebele Jonathan has been one of the best president so far, you’re forever missed… One of the most patriotic man I’ve ever seen… God bless your effort towards making this country a better place

  • The first verse clearly describes the benefits he endeared towards his reputation s his tenure. He backed many more awards for his care for human life. The world recognised him.

It shows the reward one gets for being peaceful. He surely got back peace of mind.

  • Emmanuel Steve Sunny

Applause! GEJ showed a spirit of true sportsmanship during the 2015 elections. His “un-African” concession of electoral loss stood him out as a true democrat and this country remains in his debt for the steps he took to avert bloodshed.

  • Oba Cindy biobele

God bless GEJ. A man of honour. I really pray God sustains him and also that God provides a leader with a mindset of GEJ’s or better still change the mindset of the president we have now. I pray for a better Nigeria. Amen.

  • Favour Nnaemeka

Ex President Goodluck Jonathan is such an embodiment of human empathy and kindness! How else would he uphold the sanctity of human life above everything else? Even his cherished political office? Jonathan saved us Nigerians when he could and now it is up to us to save ourselves.

  • UGWUOKE BLESSING NNEDINSO

Nigerian politicians are not really reliable but Jonathan gave us hope in his impeccable and humane attitude when he stepped down for PMB. Despite the accusations of his administration being corrupt, he still remained and remains the best president so far. May God keep him healthy and peaceful always.

  • Nnamani Ruth Nnenna

What GEJ did most leader cannot do because of greed and the lust for power. May God bless him and bless us with a good leader like him.

  • What more can I say
Gej was a man of the people
May God continue to bless him

The ex president is someone who is worthy of emulation for his laudable actions during the 2015 elections that saved Nigeria from a whole lot of trouble. Truly, May God’s blessings be upon him.

  • Nwosu chinwendu favour

Best president so far… He did what other never did because he cared about his people. GEJ portrayed a high level of selflessness and God will continue to bless him for that.

  • Anyasor Emmanuel Gerald

Goodluck Jonathan was indeed a perfect embodiment of a peace loving ruler!
Most people think prioritising peace among ego or other self centered traits ;to be cowardice or fear.

  • Okorie Adaora N.

GEJ.. A man of peace and good will for his people. Like they say people do not know what they have until it’s lost.. I am very positive GEJ would have been a better occupant for the presidential seat.. Happy belated birthday sir.. God bless you tremendously.

  • Nnabuihe Victoria

This is a wonderful poem, Goodluck Jonathan was indeed a man of peace, and a hero of democracy, Unlike what we are expressing in this Buhari led administration, where there is no law,no rule even the supreme court order is inconsequential. Nigeria is draining we a man like GEJ. So help us God.

  • Abasiofon

A humble man indeed. There is a saying that we do know what we have until we loose it. It’s now I understand this man is a treasure. Peaceful and meek and has everyone’s interest at heart. He is a character to look up to. God bless him!

  • Agbodike Ogochukwu Maryclaret

  • Ezeh Blessing

GEJ. Nigeria once had a leader, who considered the interest of his people. And that leader is in the person of Dr. Goodluck Ebele Jonathan. Let’s pray God to continue His works of grace in the life of this “peaceable” fellow.

  • Ozukwe mirian chisom

This is indeed a nice piece. Dr Goodluck Jonathan is a good role model to all and an upholder of democracy.

  • Idam Joy Ogwu

President GEJ was indeed the best leader Nigeria ever had, a man that values the lives of his citizens above his ambition, he is indeed, worth celebrating.

  • UDOETTE GIDEON COSMAS

A man of peace and humility. Your saw what others could never.a country like ours have become partially autocratic, we are even sometimes deprived of some fundamental rights.not to talk of fear of the press after he( buhari) made such comments. God will save Nigeria for his plan are firm and no man would oppress his children. Nice tribute to GEJ.

  • Enwerem Chiamaka

Somebody once told me that JOY meant Jesus, Others and You. I think selfishness spoils a lot of things in every facet of human lives. Until we remember that we are servants of the people we lead, selfishness will keep happening. I pray we get to that point where people think less of themselves and more of others

  • Uzoma chidera

Dr Goodluck ebele Johnathan is an icon and a role model,A man with a peaceful and selfless soul, just for peace to reign and also for the good of the people he peacefully stepped down and handed over, I pray God saves us from the hands of selfish people Amen.

  • Duru Joselyn Amarachi

Blessingd upon GEJ.. He indeed is a peaceable person. Not selfish to sit at the detriment of lives that may be lost but chose to give up that peace would reign. God bless you GEJ.

  • Egbo Paul Uchenna

A rare gem I call him,a man that has the future of the country at heart. I’m not surprised though, because being raised from a humble background and taking over from Alh Musa Yar’adua has nurtured him enough to place the lifes of the masses over his political ambition.God bless Nigeria.

  • Agwu Tochukwu Frank

Dr. Goodluck Ebere Jonathan is a peace ambassador, he actually maintained the sacredness of human life during the 2015 election. In conclusion, he is not among the desperate politicians in the country. His political system is worthy of emulation.
The Lord God shall surely bless him, as
He upheld the sanctity of human life.

    God bless you exceedingly ma.

  • Nwankwo Amanda

It is always better most times to choose Peace over anything, I’d rather live a peaceful life in a peaceful society than try to compete with anyone of any sort.
I wish Nigeria all the best, it’s well.

  • Richards Orighomisan Mercy

I pray Nigeria have a president like him again, despite being the most insulted and ridiculed president in the world as at the time of his presidential appointment, YET he still showed love to his people… TO ME I WOULD LIKEN HIM TO KING DAVID… A GOOD SHEPHERD INDEED. ???

  • Obiosa Oluchukwu Reward

Nigeria. major problem is we can’t differentiate the good from the bad. so we lost a good leader.

  • Ndukwe Akwara

GEJ is unique man, I pray God will deliver us from the pit we are in.

  • GeJ was the best president we had in Nigeria, very humble and diligent in everything he did.

  • EMMANUEL AGBOWO

The tenure of buhari has brought calamity to Nigeria and i pray that the lord brings us an angel to save us

  • Chibuife Isaac Chukwuebuka

GEJ was a man of peace. He stood firmly on the principle of peace when he said “my ambition is not worth the blood of any Nigerian”. Nigerians have now come of age to realize the rare gem they had as a president that time. I pray God continue to bless him for his act of selflessness.

  • Eze Nelson Emeka

Dr Goodluck Jonathan,a man of undisputed humility and care over his people. Nice poem ma.

  • Obiogwu Onyinye

It’s no need crying over spilled milk. They say everything happens for reason, I really want to believe it in this case. Nigeria’s condition recently is critical, there has really been a lot of “changes” like APC promised us. Lord have mercy! And deliver Nigeria!!

  • Goodluck Ebele Jonathan was one of the best, if not the best president as far as Nigeria is concerned. May God continue to bless him.

  • Chukwuemeka uchechukwu pepertua

Dr Goodluck Ebele Jonathan is a man of peace and he also practiced real democratic system of government. And he has been one of the best president in Nigeria so far ..And he was si patriotic ..I pray God keeps helping us all .

  • Onoh Chinenye

GE was a presidential legend that would be missed by every Nigerian, regardless of tribe. He was a good man but then, even his good was not enough for us. We got what we wanted, a general with a voice and not a meek president. I hope now we can all understand that the difference is not in character but whom the hand of God has chosen.
Yet, there is no way to heal a land that has turned to greed itself…well, it’s on God, it’s all on God.

  • Ugwu Doris chinenye.

The worst thing anyone could do was not to appreciate Dr good luck Jonathan. Because he was indeed patriotic and loyal but some people didn’t recognize it. But I’m happy now we see the importance of his leadership. Thank you mum for the peom you really nailed it.

    • Njepuome Nmesoma .O.

Dr Goodluck Ebele Jonathan was a peaceful man that truly understood what it meant to be a leader.

  • Makwe Covenant Nkiruka

The eulogy is really commendable. President Jonathan has shown his prowess,in leadership and examplary lifestyle, since he gained the mantle of leadership in the country. He exhibited tolerance, equality, love and justice, during his tenure,as a president. To cap it all,he conceded defeat in the presidential election, and swallowed his pride and dignity, just for peace. He’s really as Achebe, described it, “A man of the People”.

  • Ibaro Harrison Chidalu

“He who upholds the sanctity of human life”
“The Lord God shall surely bless”
    God bless GEJ!

  • Obajie Chinonyerem

This poem is so beautiful! GEJ is one of the best presidents this country has ever had. A man of great strength that was not easily swayed by demands of the demons that occupief the ruling position with him.

  • Okwuchi Kimberly

Goodluck is the best and only democratic leader I have seen in Nigeria
Currently, democracy is in the mud

You’re a rare gem, and I pray for God’s blessings and protection upon you and your family,Amen…

  • Nwofor Gift Chinenye

A country without a good leader is doomed,we had the experience of a God sent leader who is Goodluck Jonathan, I pray God gives us such a good man wit good heart as Goodluck Jonathan, he will always remain the best

  • Miracle C Ohia Obioha

We really don’t know what we possess until we lose it. Before Jonathan left, his wife was made a laughing stock and people made mockery of him because they felt that he couldn’t handle a nation properly, and now he’s gone, we all miss him dearly. Behind closed doors, he sacrificed another tenure he was sure to have won for the safety of Nigeria. God bless GEJ. God bless his wife. God bless Nigeria!

  • Ede Ndidiamaka Patience

All because of “Change,” this country chose disaster!! Him who wants peace for others, may peace locate such person. May peace locate Good luck Jonathan for having wished Nigerians peace. Only God can save this country at this point.

  • What a wonderful piece, the Ex president is indeed a man of peace.

  • I miss our peaceful nation Nigeria, I miss GEJ, he was d best president for me and he was humane and had our biddings at heart.

  • Ex-president Jonathan was a great leader and that’s what Nigeria need I this time. The recent government is so confusing. No one knows their next step, they take us unawares

  • Anyinachi Winifred Chinonso

He is one in a million and his life style inspires us all.
    Blessings be upon him.
    Amen!

  • Rejoice Ezeabii

Ex president Goodluck Jonathan is indeed a man of peace that’s because he has the fear of God, he was able to understand the word of God that say “Do not kill”. I strongly believe that if all politicians have the fear of God, then Nigerian would be a better place.

  • Okoro Charity Oluchukwu

We exist in the minds of our followers whether we created positive or negative impacts. Our attitudes talks about who we are.

  • Omolola Akande

Truly,a leader that does not care about the security of the lives of people is not a worthy leader.

  • Nicholas Princewill Kelechi

Indeed that’s a true quality of a good leader, “To know when to let go” even when at loss. Fate catapulted him to a greater height just for a good deed, for a simple empathy. Whereas the supposed opposition aspirant can’t say he had half the blessings “GEJ” had as the ambassador for peace, in the world. Sacrifice indeed pays.

  • Winner Favour

I really admire GEJ. He deserves the tribute. He chose peace over bloodshed. I pray that God blesses him.

  • Abah precious

Amazing write up, May God bless Jonathan where ever he is he is truly the champion of democracy

  • Ugwu Samuel Chidera

Nigeria is in the hands of God even in the midst of all the turbulence

  • Ngwu Chinasa Modesta

A man of peace, may God continue to bless you for the sacrifice you made.

  • Juliet

Happy birthday in arrears sir, when he was in power things were moving smoothly, I admire that he chose peace over bloodshed.

  • Miracle Ogbonna

The current state of affairs in Nigeria is dire and in need of urgent intervention from a higher power. It is clear that the situation in Nigeria is extremely grave, with widespread violence, corruption and human rights abuse. While there are certainly steps that can be taken at the nation and international levels to address these issues, it is also clear that a deeper more profound intervention is needed. Many people turn to religion in times of crisis, seeking solace and guidance from a higher power, in Nigeria’s case, it may be that only divine intervention can provide the kind of transformative change that is needed to bring peace and stability to the country.

  • Onah Celestine kenechukwu

“Direct and concise” can best be used to describe this poem.

The message is clear, humanity before every other ambition. There was life before even desires.

Nigeria is still a mess because those who find their way to the corridors of power rather think only of their pocket. If the likes of Goodluck can be many in the authority, the sacrosanctity of human life would have a bit been maintained. Nevertheless, we hope for a better Nigeria.
