We all need the heart of a child if we are to enjoy life fully, live in harmony with others and generally please God. That is why the Lord Jesus used them as examples during His earthly ministry. Hear Him:

“Verily I say unto you, Except ye be converted, and become as little children, ye shall not enter into the kingdom of heaven.” – Matthew 18:3

“Suffer little children, and forbid them not, to come unto me: for of such is the kingdom of heaven.” – Matthew 19:14

“Verily I say unto you, Whosoever shall not receive the kingdom of God as a little child, he shall not enter therein.” – Mark 10:15

He was saying in contemporary English that the kingdom of heaven belongs to those who have the characteristics of little children: those who are childlike in the sense that this poem shows: those who are innocent and don’t carry unnecessary baggage; those who trust God fully and are open to others.

I don’t know about you, but that’s the kind of person I want to be. So I continuously pray the prayer in this poem so that my satiation in certain respects, my maturity and independence, do not rob me of my sense of wonder or deprive me of the best that God has for me here and keep me from His kingdom at last.

All the scriptures used in this piece are from the King James Version of the Holy Bible.

    • Yes, we miss something when we are more concerned about being all wise and grown up than being kind, trusting and forgiving like a child. Grateful for your comment, Yvette! You are blessed!

  1. Such a beautiful poem! It is so true that we need to have faith like a child, and I love that verse where Jesus tells His disciples that the children are to be THEIR examples. I learn so much from my kids all the time!

    • That’s lovely! But you know a child is the way God originally made us in His image, before corruption sets in. Bless you!

  2. The life of a child… The best you can think of.. Kid dy don’t bear grudges, the forget and forgive easily. You will kids fighting this minute and the next minutes, they are playing on sand. Lol.
A kid will tell you “uncle you are not my friend again, I will not play with” but I the next minute they are all over you playing. They don’t take nothing serious in life… And that’s the kind of thing that takes them closer to God

  3. The life of child is the most sweet and pleasant life one can think of. Children have nothing to think of, who annoys them and who hurt them. They bear no grudges and annoyance against anybody and don’t really think of anything. No wonder the kingdom of God chooses people like them. I really miss my childhood, lol!

  4. the lives of children are so sweet and innocent. they bear no grudge, they laugh a lot and stress over nothing. God please make my heart like that of a child’s

  5. Indeed if we had minds like children so many calamities would have been averted. You beat up a child now the next minute he is smillimg and taking sweats from you. Beat up and adult and he begins to strategies revenge. Cjikslike minds gives more room for peace ,love ,joy and harmony.

  6. Lord, give me the heart of a child so that when you see me, you will welcome me with open arms. give me a spirit of innocence, forgiveness and joy. let me be eager to serve you and to obey your direction. let me look up to you and ask you for leadership, let my life be a mirror of the boundless love of jesus. let me be love to many and bring smiles to the heart of everyone who beholds me. lord, make me a child for you.

  7. I also pray too for the heart of a child because with such heart serving God will be sweeter because you know that is from a pure and tender heart..nice one ma

  8. Having the heart of a child is the only way we can live in harmony with others and generally please God. Nice one ma

  9. I love the wordings, rhymes, and the graphic that shows a little child. Give me the heart of a child so I will know no sin, I pray oh Lord.

  10. What a great post ma, imagine how lovely life would be if we all live the life of a child, a carefree life, no weight of grudge, always dependent on our creator. wow! so amazing, i pray God helps us in doing so.

  11. It’s clear to me now why Christ always likened the little children to heaven’s inhabitants. They are so trusting, innocent, light-hearted. They still marvel at new things and are still very eager to see more of life. The little children are angels, they are pure, they are chaste. I want the heart of little children too because only then will I be able to love christ so dearly and completely, indeed with all my heart

  12. Oh Lord satisfy me with a heart of a child. That innocent, pure, calm, peaceful and carefree life to know and worship you all the days of my life.

  13. The carefree nature of little children is the best gift one can do with in this era of stress ridden life. Living like kids also leaves us at the mercy of the most high thus helping us to achieve a slow, steady and peaceful life. May God bless us with the heart of little children Amen.

  14. Children are treasury from Christ. Their hearts are so innocent, calm, pure and deceit free. Let’s emulate their innocence and use it to worship God.

  15. A life of a child is full of freedom.
He doesn’t think of harming another
    No thought to curse another
Even to gossip or any other deformatory action.
Oh Lord, I need to adore you more
Please give me this innocent heart, the heart of the children. Amen.

  16. The heart of a child is priceless and pure that’s why God loves them so much. If we can become like them, we can build a cordial and happy relationship with God. We are children before God, so we need to act like one.

  17. The Lord wants us to be like little children, because they no not sin hatred, etc. For instance, When you see two kids fighting, you separate them and you think they will never come together again. All you have to do is wait; between one minutes, you will see them playing together again.
I pray that the Lord gives the grace to be child-like.

  18. This is an important prayer as christians. The heart of a child is an innocent heart which bears no grudge against anyone. when you spank a child, just give him or her some seconds and they will still come back to you. As christians, this is a prominent issue for life growth which makes us worthy of his affection. Always live with a broken and contrite heart.

  19. Nice! I was talking to my sister yesterday about this topic and I told her how I wish I could go back to being a child and there would be no temptation.

  20. We all want the heart of a child but is it possible. You won’t have to carry grudges, no backbiting, total dependence. Lord give us the heart of children in order to walk in total accordance with your word without doubt

  21. The heart of children are so pure and innocent. Normally the heart of man is full of anger, jealousy, hatred, envy and deceit but the heart of a child is pure as crystal and that’s how God expects us to be.

  22. Firstly, that cute little child’s picture caught me. 😍😍😍. The innocence that a child’s heart possesses is something to reckon with. Dear Lord, help us!
