LOOK TO GOD AND NOT TO YOUR CIRCUMSTANCES

Sometimes, we find ourselves stuck in dire situations from which we see no clear way of escape. It may be a diagnosis of sickness, spiritual attack, financial trouble, relationship breakdown or other challenges.

Even when we ask God for help, we tend to calculate our chances of overcoming these challenges through natural means: what the doctors say, how others have fared in similar situations, our wisdom and financial capacity or the ability/willingness of those we know to help. While these may be relevant, we should never consider them the only resources we have.

Our greatest resource is God and He is indefinite and immeasurable in His capabilities. Beyond the natural things/people we know and have, when God steps into our situation, the impossible and inexplicable can happen. That is why we should never depend on our own understanding or labour in our own power alone.

In 2 Kings, Chapter 3, King Joram of Israel got the kings of Judah and Edom to accompany him to fight the Moabites. On the way, they ran out of water in the Desert of Edom and the armies of these three nations were in danger of perishing, along with their animals. When they consulted Elisha the prophet, this is what he said inter alia:

“16. … This is what the Lord says: I will fill this valley with pools of water. 17. For this is what the Lord says: You will see neither wind nor rain, yet this valley will be filled with water, and you, your cattle and your other animals will drink. 18. This is an easy thing in the eyes of the Lord; he will also deliver Moab into your hands.”

Remember they were in the desert and note the words in verse 17- “You will see neither wind nor rain, yet this valley will be filled with water ….”

The next morning, just as Elisha prophesied, the armies woke up to see water all around them and were revived. Furthermore, the water led to the defeat of the Moabites who thought it was blood from the three armies massacring themselves because the land of Edom was red. When they came to mop up the survivors, the armies rose up and destroyed them.

God is not limited by anything. Romans 4:17 (KJV) describes Him as the One who raises the dead “and calleth those things which be not as though they were.” That means He doesn’t need any tools or raw materials to create anything. He can just speak them into being. That is how He created the world and the things in it.

Hebrews 11:3 tells us that “the universe was formed at God’s command, so that what is seen was not made out of what was visible.”

In the Book of Genesis, we are explicitly told the same thing in the creation story from which the verses below are drawn:

“1. In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. 3. And God said, ‘Let there be light,’ and there was light.” – Genesis 1: 1 & 3.

The same Word of God is with us now as Jesus, the Son of God, whose Spirit dwells in all those who have believed and confess His name, who by the same token have become children of God.

“1. In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2. He was with God in the beginning. 3. Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made” – John 1:1-3.

“… to all who did receive him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God” – John 1:12

“Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God?” – 1 Corinthians 6:19

Whatever the situation, never assume that you are alone. Remember that the Holy Spirit lives in you and listen to what He says.

The word of God is also documented in the Bible. As you prayerfully read it, God will speak to you and confirm the things His Spirit may have spoken to you in your heart.

When you do this, you will find that you will never be caught in despair. Not only will you experience God’s deliverance as He wills, you will be able to go through tough situations with the cushion of His grace and comfort.

Your circumstances may say there’s no way out. But your circumstances are natural, they are limited. God, on the other hand, is spiritual and unlimited. He can do a miracle in your case- something beyond belief that addresses your need and brings you relief.

That is my prayer for you today- that our God, who is boundless and compassionate, will intervene on your behalf and call forth the answer to your problem, the solution that has eluded you and grant you peace. Amen in Jesus’ name.

This is insightful. As someone who overthinks, I have been making conscious efforts to leave things I have no control over to the will of God.
Searched for a job through out the break, posted ads, went for interviews, gave up and God came through at the 11th hour with a good one.

    • Hallelujah! If we can be patient, we will see God’s care coming through for us. Be richly blessed in Jesus’ name.

I really appreciate you for good message the way you have explained it’s very touching, Lookup to God, not your circumstances, many are the times,we run away from God because of the situation we encountered with,we easily forget that God is always with us and help in the way, you can not understand,I really learn slot and that’s the top I have on Sunday, Thanks,we trust in God, not in our circumstances

Most times it seems like all is lost and there is no way for you to get through, and in these kind of situations you find yourself falling into the darkness and having to fight your inner demons. But then it takes great faith to look unto God for help. But God is always the ultimate source of our help

    • Yes, and He’s the best source. May His banner be over you and yours in Jesus’ name.

      • What God cannot do is yet to come to existence and Will never come to existence, God is the only way and the only source, cast all your burdens to the Lord He is always there to carry it. Whenever life becomes unbearable, I live everything unto Him because He is yahweh. God bless you.

There are situations that people find themselves in life. These situations lead people to questioning God and God’s power. They loose the faith they have in God’s power and His ability to help them. But in all we should look up to God for He never sleeps nor slumber therefore whatever problem you are facing God knows and he would take care of you

This post has really inspired me, I have been facing a challenge but after reading this post I have decided to stop and talk to God in prayers. Thank you so much for blessing me, may God bless you as well. Amen!

Food for thought. More Grace ma

Thank you so much Ma! We should never lean on our understanding rather we should trust in God. “I am never alone” I was really blessed by what you shared.

I am so blessed by this post ma. Honestly I feel relieved from a heavy burden. I have just been reminded by this post of what God has been doing in my life and family, and what He is capable of doing.
In 2018, my niece suffered from a misterious sickness. We spent all we had in the hospital but there was no improvement. Instead it was getting worse on daily basis. The doctor bluntly told my mother that he doesn’t know what else to do. “The lab results only showed that she has malaria, I have administered malaria drugs to her, and for four weeks, there is no changes at all. Madam, I have to discharge her so that you people can look for solution somewhere else instead of leaving her like this. The recent test shows that she is free from malaria”.
After she was discharged, we resorted to prayers. My mother took her to the church, they stayed in the church, praying for two weeks. Just as if they are in the hospital, we cook food and take to them. And gradually, my niece got healed completely from the sickness. Glory to God

    • Wonderful testimony! Our God is Jehovah Jireh and He can heal both known and unknown sicknesses.

The title lays credence to the sermon presented by my pastor this sunday. It is unbelievable today how we christians are unable to contain even the smallest of challenges but rather resort suicide!

If there is one thing I have learnt during this covid-19 period is I/we are not alone..even the smallest things I felt was nothing God was always there for me ,even the ones I felt were funny to include into my daily prayers ,God always zlcame through for me and funny part is that he does it in miraculous way I never expected ,,we should lay our problems at God’s feet ,not cry over them, when we cry instead of praying we are indirectly saying that God is not capable of handling such issues…nice post ma❤️

Thank you Ma for this wonderful write up. You have just encouraged a soul to trust in God and have strong faith in him, I’ve been facing many challenges but I’m believing God for a miracle.

  • Ejiofor Emmanuel

Amen. Sometimes, we don’t have to worry ourselves too much over life problems. Instead of feeling more depressed with thinking here and there about these problems, we should pray and put all our faith in God for He can do all things, no matter the situation. You’d be surprised at how the miracle will happen. Just trust in Him.

Thank you ma for this encouragement. Remain blessed?

  • Ugwoke Jennifer Chinecherem

    Amen. God bless you Ma.

  • God remains the hope of our glory despite the rigours of life. One of the worst things that can happen to any man is to depend on any man for help.
    I am inspired.

  • Okoli Ezinne Juliet

Amen, Mama. God is really great and can do all things. Some of us have witnessed how good the Lord is. We have seen miracles and wonders. I believe everything you have said cause it is true. Once again, “Amen” to that prayer. I know if I trust in God, he will definitely see me through.

  • Aṅulika Iwoba

This is truly very helpful. A timely reminder of God’s Wisdom and inestimable greatness which supercedes my abilities and that of all men. We’ve become used to trusting our own abilities and shrewdness in navigating through life, but we can never achieve half of what those who look to God for everything can achieve.
Thank you so much ma for this.

This post was perfect for the year 2020 and even more dire now that we’re still lingering in the spillovers. The way our normalcy was taken away so suddenly led a lot to depression, masturbation and the likes. But reading and applying wisdom from this post would bring sanity and faith in God. Thank you so much ma.

“God is not limited by anything”! If I forget everything I’ll remember this, thank you for ma.

And we looked to him and were lightened and our faces were not ashamed.
    Psalm 35v4

  • Nwalutum Chisom Doreen

Definitely, What God cannot do, does not exist.
Even if our faiths can be like mustard seeds, we can speak to the mountains and they would move. Trust in the Lord with all your heart, mind and all ur strength. We have burdens, but Christ is our burden bearer and deliverer. He knows and sees.
    Remain Blessed, Ma’am.

  • This is true ma…I recall in my second year, I was so broke and needed money. Couldn’t get all my needs met because my family were having serious financial issues. I felt God has forsaken me and i didn’t want to go begging. So, I started a business (making peanut brittle). Ma the way God used that business to solve all of my needs and wants was so incredible…I hardly touched my upkeep money that my mum sent to me because everyday I made a profit of two thousand naira… it was so good…God is indeed faithful

  • Anokwuru Catherine Ihuoma

There is nothing too hard for God to do. We as Christians need to develop confidence in God (Godfidence) and know that even when it seems like there is no way, He will make a way. He has done it before and He will do it again.

  • Back then I always believed that when I’m faced with difficulties I have my family to face it with or to help me out but I was taught a great lesson that the only friend and companion you have is God.
When I needed them most, they turned me down.At that period, I felt dejected and depressed but when I looked to God, I saw hope, happiness and a sense of fulfillment.
I don’t know how he does it but he does.

  • Ezeh chimezie Amos

God is God and Never fail those that put their faith in him, it is also written that those who put their trust in him are like mount Zion that can Never be moved Psl 125:1
He also said that those who hope on him shall renew their strength, they will soar on like eagle, they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.
    He knows our problems.
    He knows about our suffering.
    He knows about tribulations.
    He knows about our pains.
He knows about everything we pass through.
So he charged us to come to him “all who are weary and burdened” that he give us rest.

  • Ikebudu juanita

God has promised that he would always be with us,no matter the circumstances and I believe. Thank you ma for the reminder

  • Adebanjo Adenike Rebecca

In every circumstances, God should be our author and finisher of our faith. Through God we can carry on with situation under His grace.

I really wish my faith is as strong as i want.

I have uncountable testimony, the recent one was my brother that was partial lost over 10yrs. the Lord brought him back safely to us.

    • Dick-Unegbu Jennifer

A nice piece, we should never think that there is no problem without solution. God will always guide and protect his people because there is nothing above him.

  • Obiosa Oluchukwu Reward

This post just made me to remember a frame my mother once broke for my sister. the inscription written on it is “ am looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of my soul, when all hope are lost, doctors reject me, everyone abandon me, death knock at my door, or am tired of life, He is my only solution”.

  • Chilaka Vivian

God cannot be limited by anything, even with those circumstances in my life that seem difficult to handle.

  • Uchechukwu Chikezie

Thank you ma. For bring it to our mind that God in Heaven still remain unchangeable and nothing is imposible with Him.Only for us to believe and trust Him with all our heart that he will do a new thing.

  • Sometimes when situations seem to weigh me down,i go to the holy spirit my comforter and sure he gives me comfort and directions.

  • Sometimes we forget that God is much bigger than any situation we find ourselves but we must remember that nothing is impossible for God to do.

  • Udop Reyner Ivor

There are some difficult situations people find themselves in and it seems God has forsaken them. It is not true. Your hope in God shouldn’t dwindle. He is the author and finisher of our faith.

  • Udegbulam Favour Oluchi

An inspiring post… Whenever i find myself in any situation I just look to God who makes the impossible become possible.

  • Ugwu Doris chinenye

You should be able to look to God because only him knows your pain, only him believes you and only him sees you so your situation may be stronger than you but remember the finished work of Christ remains the same. He knows your troubles and will always intervene if you acknowledge his presence and pray to him he would come for you in times of your troubles.

  • Olusola Esther

Thanks ma for this encouraging post, it isn’t always easy to be patient and have faith when it seems like the situation isn’t changing but God’s grace is sufficient for each of us.

    • Eze Esther Nzubechukwu

      Thanks so much ma
There is nothing impossible with God, just like the story in 2 king’s we have a great God who loves and provide for us in times of need

  • Aroh Anthonia Ifeoma

When we believe wholly in God, he’ll renew our strength in times of difficulty. What’s really surprising is that it’s as simple as that, believing, yet it seems so hard whenever we’re faced with challenges. Even when God makes promises to us, we wonder how it will come to fruition.

  • God is the God of impossibility. I could remember back then in secondary School when things became hard for my dad and he could not pay for my school fees they will always send me home because of that, I will cry and pray that God blesses my father with huge amount of money so he could pay my school fees. I continued with the prayers as I stayed at home while others were in school studying. To my greatest surprise that same day my dad came back home with alot of goodies and testified to my mom and I how the owner of his company called him and commended him for being a good staff after which he gave him a cheque for being outstanding in the office. My school fees was paid the next day.
Then I got to know that when God steps into our case it changes for better.

  • Nwokedi Fortune Odinakachi

Of a truth, God is able! I just pray he channels my mind more to himself than to situations.

  • Jesus said in his words “I will never leave you nor forsake you, lo I am with you always even to the ends of the earth”. Having this mentality will always make us to look unto our creator (Jesus) and not on our circumstances.

  • Ede Ndidiamaka Patience

Youare right ma. Even luk1:37 made us understand that withGod, nothing is impossible.
Thank you very much for this inspiring post. God bless you!!

Ma, this is really a discerning write up. A lot of chalk nges faced by the youths and the people at large has made them succumb to other means of resolving their problems. While others feel confident in themselves that they can overcome every challenges. They forget to put God before eveything or lay their problems at His feet. If there is one thing I know, it is God. He has the power to turn every situation around. If we place our faith in Him, He will help us. He is always ready to help us with our problems if we trust and believe in Him with all faithfulness.

  • Victoria Chigere

Whatever situation you are never doubt God, always have faith, there’s nothing he cannot do

God is powerful. We should put our trust and hope in him; in all situation, He is God.

  • God sees our situations no matter what we think and only wants us to trust in Him and not in our ways because only He can deliver us. Make the word of God your friend so that you find comfort and strength in it.

We can’t take away human factors and tricks the devil play on us through our minds that we ought to have a plan B even after we had asked God for help in dire situations. However, if only we can remain patient with God, then his plans will be perfected in our lives.
