Love The Lord With All Your Heart - A call to worship

Love The Lord With All Your Heart …: A call to worship

“‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength …’ and, ‘love your neighbor as yourself.’” – Luke 10:27 (NIV)

Although the Lord Jesus told us that these are the greatest commandments in God’s law and that by keeping them we keep all the rest, they are by no means easy for us to accept or live by as weak mortals who often see things differently from our high and lofty God.

In the case of God, we are often angry and resentful towards Him.

“Why is He controlling and restricting my life with so many commandments?”

“Why hasn’t He healed me? Why did He allow sickness to invade my body in the first place?”

“Why hasn’t He made me rich? Why am I still struggling after serving Him for so long?”

These are some of the thoughts that often consume our hearts. Addressing each of these will require separate posts, some of which have been linked at the end of this one. But the bottom line is that God is just and unimpeachable regardless of our circumstances.

Suffice it to say, however, that the best reason to love God is not because of the nice things He’s done for us but because of who He is. He is our Creator and the Maker of all things, a holy God who deserves our worship.

As Revelation 4:11 states,

“Thou art worthy, O Lord, to receive glory and honour and power: for thou hast created all things, and for thy pleasure they are and were created.”

The amazing thing about pure-hearted worship is that it can bring the answers and reliefs we seek in our lives.

When Solomon offered a thousand burnt offerings in worship at Gibeon, God appeared and told him to ask for anything He wished.

And it’s not just when we attach material things to our worship that God does this. Just proclaiming the holiness of God and His other eternal attributes consistently in worship brings down His presence and power with the result that we experience healing, breakthroughs and other miracles we may not have envisaged.

So why don’t we along with the angels and other saints proclaim to Him today?

“Holy, holy, holy, Lord God Almighty, which was, and is, and is to come.” – Revelation 4:8

“Holy, holy, holy, is the LORD of hosts: the whole earth is full of his glory.” – Isaiah 6:3

“There is none holy as the LORD: for there is none beside thee: neither is there any rock like our God.” – 1 Samuel 2:2

Although we usually have too many complaints against people who are imperfect like us (called our neighbours by Christ), when we love God as He requires, loving them will follow naturally. That too is part of our worship as it constitutes service to God. When we live up to these two demands – loving God and people selflessly, then we can have the peace and joy God has promised His redeemed.

Here is Reginald Heber’s awe-inspiring hymn, “Holy, holy, holy,” as performed by Audrey Assad to start us off on a deeply reverential worship session.
