NYT's Confirmation of Hunter Biden's Laptop Story- How the media cheat the people

NYT’s Confirmation of Hunter Biden’s Laptop Story: How the Media Cheat the People

On Oct. 14, 2020, about two weeks before the US presidential elections in November that year, the New York Post (the country’s oldest newspaper) broke a story about emails recovered from Hunter Biden’s laptop that showed he had shady business dealings with the Chinese, Ukrainian, Russian and other foreign powers and served as a bag man for his dad. More files from the laptop circulated online showed that he was a drug addict and involved in questionable sexual activities with prostitutes and minors (with many pornographic images) to illustrate.

Some journalists, like Glenn Greenwald of the Intercept and Tucker Carlson of Fox News, dug dipper and corroborated The Post story, pointing out its implications for the candidacy of Joe Biden in the elections, not just because some emails on the laptop implicated him in his son’s business dealings but his son’s activities would open him up to blackmail and pose a security threat to the US. UK’s Daily Mail newspaper also authenticated the contents of the laptop.

Tucker even brought a former business associate of Hunter, Tony Bobulinski, who confirmed the contents of some of the emails and expressed his willingness to speak to the FBI on the matter. The FBI, which already knew about the laptop, did not report any meaningful outcome of its investigation into its contents or express any security concerns on Biden’s candidacy.

The mainstream media rejected the story in unison, without any investigation, and labelled it Russian disinformation. Some 50 US ex-intelligence officers also signed a letter claiming that the laptop story had the marks of Russian state tradecraft.

The Post's front page display on the censored article

The Post was censored for it, locked out of its Twitter account and asked to delete the story. Glenn Greenwald was kicked out of Intercept which he co-founded. The likes of Christine Amanpour won’t even allow Hunter’s laptop to be mentioned in her programme saying the contents couldn’t be verified, which was totally incorrect because The Post had used the proper metrics to authenticate the information on the laptop before breaking the story. In one fiery exchange, Leslie Stahl of NBC’s 60 minutes shut down then candidate Donald Trump who maintained that the story was a huge scandal which the media should investigate and report on because Biden was running for the highest office in the land. She more or less said the story, which conservatives called October surprise capable of winning the election for Trump, baseless and inconsequential.

Anyone who mentioned the story was called a Russian asset, a desperate Trump supporter and suffered censorship penalties or got kicked out entirely from social media.

On the contrary, blue check Democrats helped amplify the narrative that the laptop story was Russian disinformation and had a field day discrediting it and those who insisted it was true on social media, in press op-eds and as guests on news networks.

But now, 13 months after Biden’s inauguration, the New York Times releases a story confirming that the critical contents of the laptop, which The Post called smoking gun emails, were authentic.

NYT's Confirmation of Hunter Biden's Laptop Story- How the media cheat the people

This is essentially what the media have been doing: bury true information that should guide people in their choices and publicise lies that mislead the public, which they quietly retract after the harm is done.

According to another article in The Post by Australian writer and columnist, Miranda Devine, “The coordinated censorship of America’s oldest newspaper — with more than 80 million readers online alone — amounted to election interference.

“If the full story of the Bidens’ international influence-peddling scheme had been told before the election, polls indicate it may have affected the result. Almost 50 percent of Biden voters knew nothing about Hunter’s laptop scandal, according to polling conducted after the election by the Media Research Center, and almost 10 percent said they would not have voted for Biden had they known.”

The NYT story, published on March 16, 2022, reveals (too late, I might add) that the FBI had been investigating Hunter Biden since his dad’s days as VP under President Barack Obama. The story states that, “The investigation, which began as a tax inquiry … widened in 2018 to include possible criminal violations of tax laws, as well as foreign lobbying and money laundering rules ….” Well, wouldn’t it have been nice for voters to have learnt that tidbit from the media whose job it is to find such things out? Rather, they made a concerted effort to suppress the story.

Yet, this story is not an isolated case. Think about all the hullabaloo about Russian collusion, Trump pressuring Zelensky to find dirt on Biden, bounties on US troops in Afghanistan and recently, the insistence that masks work against COVID, hydroxychloroquine and ivermectin are dangerous to humans, vaccines will stop infection and transmission of COVID …. The list goes on and on.

The motto of the New York Times is, “”All the News That’s Fit to Print.” But the question is, “When do you print the news?” The answer seems to be, “When It Suits Our Agenda.” Even when it’s no longer news apparently, as this case shows.

The mainstream media has become the propaganda arm of the Democratic Party and so what they push is the narrative that favours the party. Everything else is quashed. And this basically means that Democrats impeached Trump for drawing attention to crimes, evidence of which the media helped them bury in order to elect a guy culpable for those crimes.

But I’m willing to go out on a limb here and conjecture that as that party’s operatives, it appears the media want to set the stage for Biden’s removal. That is probably why the NYT, as the media class captain, is conveniently giving its imprimatur at this time to this OLD story that clearly shows that Joe Biden is compromised, through his son, Hunter.

The new York times went against media ethics, this decision of theirs affected the decision of many people during the election, which isn’t meant to be so.

Wow. That means the media are no longer serving the people, instead they do what pleases them.

Most political aspirant would do anything to cover their evil deeds and that of their family members in order to accomplish their selfish political ambition.

It’s the duty of the Media personalities to provide people with information. Hiding information from them is like disregarding that duty.

The work of a journalist must be laid on foundation of truth. Once you are ready to do this job, be ready to do the needful no matter the pressure on you.
According to Deno Melayo, if you tell truth you die, If you tell lie, you die, why can’t you say the truth and die.
    Journalism is work of faith.

That an uncovered news story with Potentiality of jeopardizing the progress of a political pursuit, or thereabout, should not be a yardstick for the bending of media ethics, conducts and operatives.
The media should not be deprived of information, otherwise what stands their functions?

It is very unfortunate that the mainstream media which ought to be the people’s rudimental guide on making the right political decision has now become the propaganda arm of the Democratic party. A perfect example is the just concluded general Presidential election. It is almost too evident that ‘we’ the people are no longer shown ‘true’ news, but instead pictures soothing the agenda of the favoured party is now publicly displayed, hence making Democracy obsolete.

What remains of the journalism profession if it is founded on lies? The truth is stubborn he always finds a way to show himself.

The media having been part of malfunction will jeopardize the progress of the society.
The media should be allowed function without interruption from any body , undue closeness to some personalities, etc
In other words, the media should be neutral

The foundation of a journalist’s job must be truth. When you are prepared to perform this duty, be prepared to carry it out regardless of the strain. The news media must always be free of government control; otherwise, they will always cover things up in government’s favor.

The essence of journalism is now fazing.

These media outlets should be objective in their work no matter what

One of the many effects of non-observance of the media ethics. The media is gradually becoming a tool of corruption.

What becomes of their function of being a watchdog and an informant?

  • Amah Victoria Chiamaka

Yes, this is corruption in high places. This happen in almost all countries in the world.

  • Madukwem Ebube Sharon Oghenetegiri

It’s really bad how journalist compromise their honesty and ethics just to suit the government lies. Reporters should try not to get influenced by those in higher authority.

  • Mboutidem Godwin Samuel

This is so unfair. It is high time the media stay out of fear. Tell us what it is and how it is not hiding a vital information from the masses at such a critical time.
People have been abused, some were kick out of social media and the media was just hiding such a vital information.
    Hmm!
    Lord have mercy on us

  • Aniehe MaryJane Chisom

Inasmuch as the media should be granted full access to necessary information for developing news stories, a high level of honesty is still expected on the end of the journalists. The juxtaposition of these factors is one we all ought to understand.

  • Anita Ilechie

The media now a days are not trying to put out the truth instead they are serving what pleases them and not what is meant to be seen or heard.

  • Odo Faith Chinecherem

Wow. Does this mean that even the media can’t be trusted?

  • Bassey Gideon

It’s appalling as it’s commonly thought that this pigeonholed pattern is only in Africa but then we see it playing out in the West. The media posting what suits their narratives is worrying to see and as such truth is scarce in their reports.

Painfully it seems as though nothing can done about it.

  • Ajomiwe Chiamaka

Even though wisdom is profitable to direct, many political candidates use the wisdom of the devil in going about their activities.

  • Chukwuebuka Joseph Uzochukwu

What ever happened to our social responsibility to the people?
It seems the heads of global media are forgetting that a chink in their credibility armoury can enlarge into an ugly chasm.

The media shouldn’t be a mere tool for political endeavours.

  • Juliet

A work of a journalist should be based on truth alone, this shows that even the media can not be trusted, and this is a bad name for those of us studying to become journalists, and some of us that our story are based on truth.

  • Miracle Ogbonna

It’s really an irony that the media which is the watchdog of the society has now turned against the society. When the media can’t be trusted again, who do the people rely on then?
But Ma, sometimes I wonder what if all these were as a result if them being under duress by some force? What if they were coerced and left with no choice than to suppress the news? Maybe the situation was against their will but in the modern situation and world we are in now, it’s happening. Just an unrelated but related stray thought of mine.

    • I doubt they were forced. When the media joins the Establishment, their interests align with those of the powers that be. In effect, they no longer represent the masses.

  • The media that is meant to be transparent in all they do have turned to something else

  • Anayo chinonyelum cynthia

One of the journalistic ethics is being honest but it is lacking in most of the today’s media house, power is now everything.

  • Media outlets and journalists should be more truthful as they disseminate information to the public.

  • Ozomadu Chisom

A journalist work is to give truthful information and not to deceive the people
Cause it will affect the county.

Thank u ma for the story

The freedom of the press has always been a subject of debate in every part of the world.

    My lecturer today said that:
“No press in the world enjoys total freedom. Even in a democratic society where the constitution spells out the function of the press as a watchdog to the government, execution is always a problem because privatization has made it possible for politicians to exploit the media to satisfy their ambition.”

In our world today, it is of no doubt that good information is never got at the right time, especially when it hurts those in authority. I think the war between them now is whose media platform has the bigger coverage and control of the masses. May God save us the budding journalists.

  • Anya Chinonyelum

Media bodies is meant to be truthful, and not giving out wrong information, or covering up bad things. It’s sad that journalists don’t enjoy the right for freedom of speech, which is, not being allowed to give out relevant information at the right time.

  • Perpetual Oko

It is so bad to hear that Hunter Biden, son of Joe Biden, the American president was involved in an illegal and illicit act and even have contact of some United Nations super power. Because the case involve the president’s son, measures which was taken exudes and radiates bribery and corruption which leads to Greenwald loosing the intercept. Media bias is clearly written everywhere because the media agencies do not want to talk about the content of the laptop. Finally, the government won and just like the saying ‘ the truth cannot be hidden ‘. I guess the media did not perform their role as the watchdog perfectly.
