YOU ARE YOUR OWN BEST PROPHET!

A young pastor was led to propose to a sister in his church. He had prayed and got the conviction that she was the one for him. The sister prayed too and got a confirmation. One minister in their church received a word about their union and prayed with them. He shared a Bible passage with them, essentially instructing them to stand strong against fierce opposition to their intention to be wedded. That passage states as follows:

“17. Thou therefore gird up thy loins, and arise, and speak untoh them all that I command thee: be not dismayed at their faces, lest I confound thee before them. 18. For, behold, I have made thee this day a defenced city, and an iron pillar, and brasen walls against the whole land, against the kings of Judah, against the princes thereof, against the priests thereof, and against the people of the land. 19. And they shall fight against thee; but they shall not prevail against thee; for I am with thee, saith the Lord, to deliver thee.” – Jeremiah 1:17-19

[bctt tweet=”The Lord confirms the words of His servants and performs the counsel of His messengers. – Isaiah 44:26″ username=”edithohaja1″]

Pretty soon the opposition began to surface. The pastor’s brother, who saw himself as having prophetic powers, told him to abandon his quest, that the sister will soon die. The church authorities were of the view that the sister wasn’t pastor’s wife material because she had some family background issues they felt would retard his ministry. They also said the sister was older than he (it couldn’t have been more than a few years). Although no one knew the exact difference in age, there was a teaching in the church that because Adam was created before Eve, a man must marry a woman he’s older than. That would imply that any proposed union that didn’t meet this condition lacked God’s approval. (I will leave you to analyse these ideas and pronouncements if you wish. I just want to make my point succinctly.)

Contrary to the counsel of the senior friend who had prayed with them and his own conviction, unwilling to offend anyone, the young pastor chose to marry someone else. Needless to say the sister didn’t die and the fellow saw serious wahala in the marriage he contracted, which quickly broke down. The last I heard of the matter he was asking the church authorities to permit him to remarry. This is the kind of nightmare no Christian wants to be caught in. The sister later married someone else and did I mention that she hasn’t died, over 15 years later? And she’s not only flourishing in her faith, she’s constantly ministering to others.

The world is filled with prophets and visionaries of all kinds. Some are from Pentecostal churches, others from white garment churches. Even orthodox churches harbouring charismatic ministries now boast of some. Then there are the psychics, mystics, diviners, native medicine men and many others not associated with churches.

[bctt tweet=”Whose report will you believe, dear believer?” username=”edithohaja1″]

Everywhere you turn, someone is seeing and prophesying something. Much of it isn’t always negative. Some are so fabulous but when you buy into them, you quickly discover you’ve been sold a lie.

By God’s grace, I’ll be doing a series of teachings on prophecy soon to explain what prophecy is and what it is not, to help us identify true prophecy and provide guidelines on how we should respond to prophecy. In the meantime, I want to share what one of my pastors used to say: “You are your own best prophet.”

[bctt tweet=”Child of God, reject every word that does not agree with what God is telling you about yourself.” username=”edithohaja1″]

The Bible says that as many as are led by the Spirit of God are the children of God (Romans 8:14). Give your life to Jesus and welcome His Spirit into your heart. He will direct you in all areas that you need. Fill your heart with His word so that you can recognise His voice and when someone shares any word of prophecy with you, pray and see if it agrees with what God is telling you. If it doesn’t, discard it no matter who the speaker is.

Remember, you are your own best prophet.

I can tell you authoritatively that God loves you and wants the best for you (John 3:16, Jeremiah 29:11). However that best is at His discretion to decide in line with His purpose for your life. If your spirit agrees with this, prophesy upon yourself along those lines and the Lord will bring it to pass. Amen in Jesus’ name.

Hmmmm. Too bad for that brother. I shall only believe the report of the Lord for me which is buried in His word. God bless you Ma!

    • Edith Ohaja

And bless you too, Chidiebube! Knowledge of the word of God is indispensable if we want to actually know His counsel for our lives. ?

  • Marylin Ezeh

    Lovely post ma

  • Sunday, Ezekwesiri Daniel

A lot of people come in the name of the Lord even when they do not hear or see anything from the Lord. We aren’t disputing the fact that there are true prophets… Every individual has a purpose and when u discover your purpose, it enables u to curtail other people’s opinion affecting your life. It doesn’t mean other people’s opinion doesn’t matter.
We simply digest the ones we know are compatible and flush the ones we do not need.
“When you know your purpose, you become the prophet of your own life and thus, you’ll be in charge of your life.”
    Nice one, ma?

    • Edith Ohaja

True, Daniel. Filtering is very important. We mustn’t welcome every kind of prophecy into our lives. You are gojng places, my dwar, in Jesus’ name.

  • Etiowo Obangham Mbang

God bless you so much ma for this. Many people have really been led astray with the whole “prophet-pastor-seeing drama”. I feel now is the time for Christians to have a sincere personal knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ so that we can know when he is speaking to us and avoid life pains and regret.

    • Edith Ohaja

So glad to hear from you, Oby. I agree that we need to stop delegating knowing God to our pastors. Every child of God should be close enough to Him to hear from Him. Missing you already. Keep shining for God in Jesus’ name.

  • Kooyon Abigail

    Fabulous
    Amazing
    Am in love with this….

  • Ike V. Nwalieji

Thank you very much, dear sister Edith. I wish someone had told me this earlier in my walk with God. But thank God He never forsakes a humble and contrite heart.

Two friends went to consult a fortune teller to know what the future held for them. After the initial rituals, the fortune teller brought out a calabash from which he shook out a worm. Turning to the first young man as he placed the calabash a few feet away from the worm he said, “if the worm climbs back into the calabash, you will be successful and wealthy. If it doesn’t, your life will be fraught with difficulties, failures aand frustrations”
Yiu could hear a pin drop a as everyone watched the worm crawl all over the room until eventually, into the calabash. The young man jumped in ecstacy and ran out dancing and rejoicing. His future was made, or so he thought.
Now it was his friends turn; the fortune teller read out the same sentence as the first young man as he positioned the worm and the calabash. The worm crawled straight towards the calabash, just as it was about to get in, for no obvious reason, it made a detour and continued steadily away from the calabash. The young man hoped for a turn around but alas, the worm was moving faster away from the calabash. When it was obvious that the wor was not coming back, the fortune teller cleared his throat but before he could utter a word, something very strange to him happened. The young man jumped up from the floor, picked up the worm and threw it into the calabash with these words; “I will not let my future be decided by this irrational creature”
Before the fortune teller could react, he had left the room.
A few years later, he was the richest man in their town, successful in all his endeavours. His friend who received the positive signs was the opposite. What was the difference?
The first man went away rejoicing and waiting for life to happen to him because it has been spoken…
The second man driven by the words he uttered that day, ” I will not let my future be decided by this irrational creature” went about happening to life and working hard to turn around situations.

I hope you will also deal with, “what to do with a prophecy” after this.

    • Edith Ohaja

Wow, thanks for sharing this wonderful story. The moral is clear: what we do with prophecy matters a lot. This applies even when it’s coming from a trustworthy preacher. This will be discussed in the series but it will come later than, at least, two other topics. Warm regards to your family. ❤️

  • Very awesome writing..it is so true, I have seen the same thing happen with the “prophets” and so much error come out of it. I believe we have the Holy Spirit, and He also guides us..and the prophet confirms it..divinely…God bless you!

  • egbo Rita Somtochukwu

What a nice story in this post to learn from…
This is the main reason why I don’t believe so much in prophecy from outsiders. I wake up n pronounce God’s word upon my life which is the highest prophecy I can ever get. He made us know that the thought he has for us is that of good, nt bad, to bring us to an expected end. Indeed we are our own best prophet. Nice one, Ma…
God will continually enrich you with his wisdom to bless n encourage souls with ur blog. AMEN!!!

  • Blessing Udeobasi

Indeed,we are our own prophet… The bible said that we should decree a word and it shall come to pass…why couldn’t the young pastor pray to his God for guidance.
He only heeded to the words of the church authorities and other members. And their reasons were not even enough to abandon the lady he wanted to marry.
But no, he wanted to please everyone and displease himself. Now he’s paying for it.

It is not always proper to adhere to what people say about someone just because you want to please everyone. It is never possible to please everybody at the same time so the best thing is to be your own prophet, converse with your God and do what your heart tells you to while sticking to the word of God.

Thank you ma for this post. It will serve as a reminder to us all on the negative effects of trying to please everyone.

    • Edith Ohaja

My dear, you are right. We should be more concerned with pleasing God than pleasing fellow human beings. And we should train our spirits to,be in harmony with God so that we don’t take wrong advice from people that will ruin our lives. Remain blessed in Jesus’ name.

  • Adonu Ifeanyichukwu

Wow…and God speaks to us in a still small voice. The voice of opposition is always louder than the voice of God and woe unto the man who disobey the voice of God. May God give us the grace and strength to always do his will

  • Chukwunwenwa Chinenye

Hmmmm! We should be our best prophet. .

Some prophecies had lead lot of people into confused state. This prophet will tell you this and another prophet will tell you something contrary.
Meanwhile our God is not an author of confusion. It’s advisable we seek for God’s guidance before swallowing every prophecy.
This piece is an eye opener.

  • Kat

Why in the world did he listen to what people were saying?! Doesn’t he know that listening to people sometimes only leads to regrets? Now he has lost a good woman. Serves him right ?. As for me and like the title rightly says, I believe I am my own best prophet and I won’t let anyone but God dictate how my life should be. Especially not a ‘wannabe’ prophet. A beautiful and thought provoking post aunty. Thank you.

  • Amana Sharon Umola

Ma, I’ve seen this play out a number of times where brothers, I mean zealous and God fearing brothers, tell a sister God said you’re my wife and after like 5 years, ma I mean it oh, 5 years after, he is saying God did not say anything. Indeed learning to hear God for oneself is indeed very crucial. It will help you discern and decipher a lot things. If you hear God for yourself, it is ones achievement in life.

  • Nnamani Oluoma Esther

We should seek God at all time and proclaim his words in our life. With faith and conviction we can speak blessings to our lives. We don’t need to wait for anyone to tell us our destiny in the name of prophesies. The only thing we should do is use our tongue which God has spoken life to, and we would see our proclamations coming to pass.

  • Eze chinyere

LOL!! “A man should not marry a woman older than him because Adam was created first!”
Anyways, you pointed out a very important issue. Let us learn from this and always seek to hear from God first before paying attention to other people’s remarks or opinions. May God give us grace to listen to his word for us without giving in to negative comments or pressure from others.

  • A much needed post, for everybody especially in this country and time where churches are found at every neck-turn (not to question their existence). in seeking God’s voice we must be careful of the medium…even the bible warns to be wary of false prophets who will claim to come in His name..finally the tittle of the post being very apt says it all….indeed WE ARE OUR OWN BEST PROPHETS!!!!

  • Blessing obidudu

The fastest way to die especially in a country like ours is to listen to people negativity about your decision to do something. You prayed and God directed you, what else do you need? This story should really be an eye opener for alot of us who’s faith still shakes. God bless you ma!

  • Arene Ifeyinwa Ketochukwu

Christians should learn to study the word of God to discover their identity in Christ. This will make them to be hardly swayed by false prophets or prophecies. If you draw closer to God in word and prayer, you will be able to follow his directions or the leadings of the Holy Spirit.

  • Chukwu Oluebube juliet

We are sons and daughters of God,truly we are our own prophet, learn not to believe so much in prophecy because many has been deceived and misled.Always ask God for a confirmation

  • Awaka vivian

Prophecies are not all wrong, some are right for us while some are not we just have to ask God in prayers

  • Oma

Fake prophets are there to stop progress and say things without profering solutions ,
The pastors that listened to his prophet brother where did he land himself in, serious trouble .we should be our own prophet ,we have access to God so we should talk to God directly especially situations like this.

  • Chinenye lucy

We are our own best prophets ,God has given us the power to decree a thing , Jesus death also gave us salvation and access to God, so we as children of God has the power to shape our life the way we want it.

  • Onu Tochukwu

Every human being is a temple of God, therefore we house God. We can prophecy to our own self when we have established a good relationship with God.

  • Akuma Victor

We are truly our best prophets. see the same issue on wrong prophecies and how regretful it can be. The brother’s so called prophecy is nothing but an unguided sentiment.

  • Ukwueze Oluchi B.

Such Prophecies have broken a lot relationships, marriages etc. My take is that we should learn to become our own prophets. I think this implies that if when we receive prophets, we should sieve them and separate prophecies, if any, from opinions or predictions.

  • Annabelle Orji

Thank you ma for reminding us that in as much as we can have prophecies from other people, we can hear God by our own selves and don’t exactly need to listen to everything we here from other sources. I pray God gives us the strength to be able to hold steadfast to the prophecy he gives us himself without going astray due to false prophetic messages.

  • Onoyima Juliet

People don’t understand that prayer goes a long way in our relationship with God, prayer is meant to be a communication between God and us. When we have an intimate relationship with God then we definitely can hear from him.

  • Euphemia Nwele

I am my own best prophet, when I wake up in the morning I sing glorious songs I praise of the future that I see, I tell myself sweet seductive words of wisdom and this has helped my emotional state of mind.it has built my confidence and aided my understanding of life itself. Working on my relationship with God each passing day makes things more beautiful. Yes I am my own best prophet and I thank God for that.
    Beautiful piece ma

  • Ezeh Onyekachukwu c

What God have joined together no man should put asunder. We should always pray for divine grace to pay deaf ears to fake prophesies because it has destroyed many homes.

  • Ibe Arinzechukwu Christian

As if our (Christians) hopes and lives depends on prophecies. So sorry for that brother. It’s high time we Christians step up and wake up from our slumbering. God is ever ready and willing to listen to us and also talk to us in the language we will understand. If we are confused we ought to approach him in prayers and supplications. Thanks and God bless.

  • In as much as we receive a lot of prophecy from the said pastors. We should also be able to know the ones that are best for us and also say No to the ones we are not comfortable with. We also have the power to prophecy unto our lives. Cheers!

  • Joseph Chizoba Kingsley

Fabulous ma. Sometimes, you meet some
prophet you think they are more spitual than you are for advice, instead of solving problem, they create more problems. Now I believe that When one is really with God, he will always be directed rightly by God – no doubt.
Thanks for making us understand who we are.

  • Uche, David Ihechukwu

Yes. I am my own best prophet. Honestly, I don’t know what joy false prophets gets in giving wrong prophecy. Prophecy that did not even come from God, this has caused a lot of problem in families, this I have seen with my eyes. I just pray people get the knowledge in been able to know what prophecy is real and which isn’t. A very important line I picked from that post is ‘Filling your heart with his word, so that you can recognize his voice’ …this is something a lot of people in the world need to do.

  • Duruji Veralin Ogochukwu

God bless you Ma for this wonderful piece…
I support the position that we are our own prophets….. People get duped by false prophets when they refused to talk to God in prayer and hear from him directly, rather they run to “Jehovah sharp sharp” prophets thereby wasting their time and resources… That was how a prophet nearly caused problems in my family with his “fabulous” prophecies which were part of his grand plans to entice us. But thank God we are learnt better.

  • Personally, I have seen something like this happen to someone close. To me when it comes to marriage you should pray to God personally and ask him for direction though you can still ask a prophet to do so for you but amidst that never forget the pastor serves the same God you do so when he sees something that isn’t so good you could also pray to that same God for directions.

  • When I hear things like the story illustrated above I get angry. God is not an author of confusion. So if someone says something negative about your marriage or something please pray to that same God to clarify you and don’t make hasty decisions that would affect your future

  • Isaac sopuruchi peace

We christian tend to compromise a lot, we do not even believe in self conviction, we tend to shake over little things forgetting that God also can speak directly to us. Well the sister is flourishing thats what gladens my heart.

  • Eze Nathaniel Izunna

Bogus prophecy has landed many in hell both here on earth. It is very imperative and pivotal to be so close to God. When one is entangle with God, He can go a long way to speak to you directly without seeking for the second prophet. God speaks to us through dreams and many other ways. But it is easily possible when we are close to Him. Leads us right when we are in good union with Him.

  • Anorue John-Daniel Kelechi

Pitiful. You can’t please everyone in this world, it is right to step on toes if you are walking/working in truth. The Bible is the word of God and in it is answers to many challenges and questions of life. The Pastor should have reported back to the senior pastor before he took his actions. A really sad one.

  • Oshana Oyaku Endurance

Even the Bible did not fail to mention that many false prophet shall arise. For that pastor to let go of the sister like that means he wasn’t really convicted that she is the one for him. Since he let go of God’s chosen one for him, the onus is on him to carry his burden.

  • Adeke Chukwuka

I am my own best prophet. There is a saying that goes thus_it is he who wears the shoe that knows where it hurts. Since i know my problems, I am definitely the best person to communicate it to God. Whatever God says is final, the verdict of man does not matter.

    • Irawaji Itongikunyiowaji Praise

God in his infinite goodness bestowed us with many gifts, and two of which are the gift of the Bible and the gift of communicating with Him. We shouldn’t be deceived by so-called prophets or fortune tellers, we have the Bible and prayer, we also have those true servants of God who act as our guide to true worship.

  • Bessong Faith Ada

Fake prophets everywhere making it difficult for people to be able to differentiate between fake prophets and Guinea men of God and the society we are in is contributing immensely to our predicament…everybody needs miracle but no one is ready to pray rather we will be moving from one church house to another seeking and looking for grace where its not.

  • Paschal Odigonma Victoria

Hmm,this is touching. Now the pastor has to live with this regret all his life. It’s not just about hearing from God, we also have to act and abide by his words for we not to be led astray. I wonder the pain he went through in the marriage that made him back out.

    • Ugwu Ogochukwu A

Yes, you are your own prophecy but only if you are righteous and believe in God that he will show you the way. The pastor and Sister, after praying and got confirmation, still didn’t believe in God which warranted them to still seek the opinion of others. Why then, did they now pray in the first instance? It is only when you don’t believe in God and his words that you will have reasons to mistrust and doubt him.

  • UGWUOKE BLESSING NNEDINSO

Prophecy has become a venture more especially in Nigeria where it is traded like commodities. But I believe that whatever I declare in my life will happen in as much as I follow the stipulations of God’s commandment. What more is there to it when God proclaimed to us in the Bible that whatever we declare on Earth shall be declared in heaven and whatever we nullify on Earth will be nullified in heaven? I believe God just made us prophets through that statement so, I can as well as prophesize good things to happen in my life. This piece is wonderful Ma!

  • Onyekachi confidence

The Lord has given us the spirit of disernment. Do you have peace with this?, Do the word of God approve of this?, How trusting is the person you go for counseling?. Through prayers let’s make known to God our heart.whaterver is true lets hold on to it and not be moved by various false prophecies from anybody.

  • Ezidimma odinakachukwu oluchukwu

Well to me the pastor and the sister would have prayed more to know Gods take on their lives concerning the marriage. And also before you tell someone a prophecy concerning them you should pray to be sure that the prophecy won’t cause havoc by the end of everything.
I still believe in what ever that is meant to be will be no matter the situation surrounding it.
I pray that people realise that they are their own best prophet ✨

  • We must learn to follow our own decisions because not everyone is right about what they say. Just look at the kind of trouble this young pastor got himself into and it yielded devastating effects. We are our own best prophets oo.

  • Aniebo Beauty

Too bad for him. I only believe in the report if the Lord which is in his word. Thank you ma!

  • Onwuamaeze Ikechukwu John

Like I earlier pointed out in a previous post having some relation to this, we shouldn’t just hear and read stories about this fake pastors and become victims ourselves, we should be watchful and believe that yourself, is undoubtedly the best prophet you can rely on, if wholly you Know God.

  • Ezeh John Onyekachi

The story of this young pastor is similar with the sad story of the man of God from Judah,in 1kingThes 13,whom God sent to rebuke Jeroboam, the king of the Northern kingdom. God instructed him not eat anything there nor return through the same root that he went. But the man of God from Judah, succumbed to persuasion by the old prophet, who claimed that God had spoken to him, and went back and ate food in the old prophet’s house contrary to God’s instructions to him. 1 kings 13:15-16.If God gives us a message, he will always notify us whenever he wants an adjustment. Don’t be messed up by many who claim to hear from God. Be attentive to what God is telling you.

  • CHUKWU MICHAEL

A world we live in.i love that word you used WAHALA. He got himself wahala when you allow other people opinion hinder God’s plan and purpose for your life. The pastor didn’t realized that he does everything at his time and that his best is yea and amen to give us an opportuned, well deserved end.

  • OBI CHUKWUNONSO EMMANUEL

The indecision and frivolities coupled with the severity of cases in our world today especially in Nigeria is alarming.although marriage is for better for worse, when one has chosen a fellow after his heart then there comes cabals who decide for that person.they now imitate God saying his say this he said that, when he is not happy they blame it on spiritual forces.we should be careful of the advice we receive in marriage because it can make or mar us.

  • UMAR GIDEON GONI

God is able and faithful, who can touch the lord’s anointed yes indeed, evil forces, principalities who disguise as our friend and relatives even in our churches hinder God;’s plans for our life.we should look and trust in GOD IN area of marriage because dem say dem say would put us into WAHALA.

  • SUGBAZA BENJAMIN VICTOR

our elders and pastors cause alot of troubles.they are not in our houses but tell us what to do.they are not on the receiving end of any calamity they cause us yet they are respected and feared.God help us especially in Nigeria.

  • MADUABUCHI EBUBE PRECIOUS

We should carefully analyse what we want in a relationship, marriage and take it to God in prayer.afyter God we are our own prophet,we should not allow another man story dictate our lives.

  • NGWU RITA MMESOMA

God plan and purpose is unadulterated. He know the best for us all.why should we listen to mere or mean men.God is faithful and his offering or blessing is the best for us.we should not listen to any but his for succiur, guidance and directives.

  • ASOGWA CHIBUZOR HENRY

God is omniknow all, know how.he dictate and know the end from the beginning.we should always ask him to give us signs in marriages not for witches and wizards to destroy God plan and purpose for us

    • Ugwoke Jennifer

Many a time we tend to believe whatever the prophet telst us whether or not it is true ,but believing in what God says about us is the most important thing to do.

  • Aniebo Beauty

So nice. In love with this, reading it over and over

  • Ugwoke Jennifer

Many a time we tend to believe whatever the prophet telst us whether or not it is true ,but believing in what God says about us is the most important thing to do.

  • Eya Paschal uz

Lolz , the only prophecy I will like to hear now is “Paschal you will travel to Canada next month”haha. The issue of prophecy has dragged most people to thier grave . If only we can constantly pray for the will of God. thanks aunty.

  • Eze chikadibia Joan

As a child of God loves, you have great opportunities and gifts. You commune with him directly and then he reveals things to you. You are your own prophet indeed because you have been great given the power to declare good things in your life and definitely it shall come to pass. Listen to what the spirit of God is saying concerning your life because it’s the truth.

  • IGBOKWE JANEFRANCES JESSICA

The gap has been breached by the death and resurrection of christ, and we all should have a relationship with the father, there’s no need to start running after prophesies we can prophesy on our lives and it will happen.

  • Okonkwo Goodness Chiamaka

As a christian you are your own prophet so long as you are in good terms with God he’ll reveal hidden things to you, you don’t have to run from pillar to post in need of solution.

  • ugwu Ozioma joy

As children of God we need to understand that we can make declarations and prophecy to ourselves and God will make it happen….we don’t need to visit several prayer houses in search of prophets to prophecy to us,a lot of people are getting mislead because of this, all we have to do is to have a relationship with him and he’d reveal his hidden things to us/his plans for us inclusive

  • Favour Nnaemeka

Forget what anyone else is saying, what you’re saying about yourself is all that matters. Your instincts are not wrong so trust your judgement!

  • Izuogu, Ozioma Precious

Yes I believe, because through prayer we collect to God. We are our own prophet because anything we strongly believe we come to pass.

  • Sad story tho, but this is passing a message to someone. You don’t do things to please people especially when what they are saying is contrary to God’s opinion. Follow the word that God has relaeseef over you, they are for your best interest.

  • Abonyi Chisom E

Nice post aunty! i believe we are our own prophet. we should only pay attention to Gods word and instructions because he is the only person that knows what we need and i know he is always ready to provide it for us. we dont need to visit several prayer houses before we get something from God all we need to do is to have faith in God and always communicate with him…

  • Chidinma Obasi

It was so unfortunate for the young who allow himself to be easily swift by what he heard. For me, the report of the Lord is what I will forever believe. For in his word, I see my future.

  • Okoro nneoma

My father always tells me this exact thing “you are your own best prophet”, do not let what people say influence your decisions especially when it goes against the positive things you want for yourself. Even when you have night dreams you don’t understand, pray and interpret it in your favour. Sometimes these so-called prophets plant unnecessary fear and suspicion in the mind of people. This why we need to be strong in Christ.

  • Ezekiel Stanley C.

People can be funny ????? ooo… Who says age has become a barrier in marriage. Proverbs 18:22 tells me that he that finds a wife find a good thing and obtain favour from the Lord. So, the ideology of Adam being created first implies that man should senior the woman when it comes to marriage is a lie from the pit of hell. People can be judgemental at times ooo…

  • Ezeh Chimezie Amos

Funny how he didn’t marry who he had wanted to marry just because of age and some lies.
I really do not subscribe that age should be a barrier in marriage so far there is love and respect.

  • Victor Nzubechi

God’s wish for us is that we prosper and be in good health even as our soul prospereth. So I believe the report of God not minding what others are saying.

  • okanyaabel

I love interesting topics like this. Because they are so controversial. This days the number of churches in the country especially Nigeria is more than the worshippers. Any body can just wake up one morning and claims to have been blessed with the gift of prophecy. opens a church church and starts duping people. Breaking relationship, marriages with the so called prophecy. The earlier we learn to realize that our lives do not depend on this prophets, the better for us. We can also prophesy good things into our lives and it will come to pass.

  • Young Onyinyechi

I witnessed something similar one time ago. A man came to the church to seek advice and prophecy concerning his business. A lot of things he has labored for just crumbled causing him sleepless nights. Instead of the so called prophets to pray for him and give him words of encouragements, he decided to attach his problems to someone – The man’s mother-inlaw. You know the rest of the story. we should not let prophesies like this decide our lives. we can end up in a ditch.

  • orakwue kosiso

Our lives is in our own hands to direct. If we leave it to the care of others in the name of prophecy to handle, then we paving way for self doom. Just pray and speak good things into your live. you don’t need prophesies to live

  • Kalu Divine Ogechi

We are indeed our own best prophet, in as much as prophecies are good, it is best we find and know God for ourselves, that way we get to know things about our lives revealed to us by God.

  • Eunice

We shouldn’t wait till we hear from our pastors before we believe. We are the best version of ourselves and the Lord can speak to us directly. Nice one ma

  • Ezeh Blessing

This write up is a big lesson to believers. Most Christians always believe every word the hear from their pastors failing to understand that not every word or prophecy is always true. The best way to go about this is having a close relationship with God through constant prayers and commitment to his word, that way we can be our own prophet.

  • Oleighibe Oluebube Tessy

Funny enough, some persons only believe that only the Prophet or Pastor is given the right to prophecy. There are many persons who do things only because it is what their pastor terms right, I won’t say it is totally bad, but we really need to do more than just believing every prophecy. I do really feel pity for that young pastor because there are some mistakes that can’t be corrected or easily correctly, and his mistake is one of such.

  • Otti Augusta

After all that has been said and heard,we still need to pray and trust that still voice that speaks to us (from within)ridding our mind of prejudice and bias on the issue at hand, we can hardly go wrong.

  • Anyasor Emmanuel Gerald

This story seems to augment my hatred for prophesies in general especially when they seem shady and unconfirmed….

  • Daniel Chukwuemeka Madu

Clear and informative as always. Blindly following people’s orders based on the claim that they are prophets or men of God is not wisdom. We might receive advice from them, but the ability to take a decision and the grace to talk to God on our own still abounds. With the Bible as our guide, it is a whole lot easier

  • Abasiofon

The words of the mouth is powerful,am sure we’ve heard that before. Use it wisely, counter every prophesy over your life.God has given us power over principalities and power, use the same power to control your life and make it right. May God help is IJN

  • Agbodike Ogochukwu Maryclaret

This is now the order of the day. People prophesying in so many different ways, some true, some false. God will help us. God bless you!

  • Ozukwe mirian chisom

Ohh this is so sad. The brother must have suffered a lot. We should only listen to God’s own instructions and believe in our self. Don’t let anyone try to convince you into doing what you are not such of or try to shake your faith so that you can doubt your self.

  • Otung Theresa

So sad that the brother allowed himself to be deceived, I believe God is not an author of confusion and he’s not a God that should lie.. If you walk up to me and tell me a prophecy and I see its not in line with the word of God I’ll just jejely dismiss it.
You’re your own best prophet, because we are gods. This thing still happens and the end is mostly a disaster except God have mercy on you. It was an interesting and educative read.

  • Chidera

God bless you very much for this post, I know a guy that has been uselessed by fake pastors-prophet. He was a successful banker, he was told that his family is the reason for his slow progress in life and he cut off relationship with his family and his source of blessing (his mother). Now he sells bread and eggs at nights

  • UDOETTE GIDEON COSMAS

We are our own prophet truly, and no body can decide for us.that what happens when we see these pastors as God,we try to emulate them,we should seek the face of God in moments like this.we should never do otherwise following this pastor or that one.

  • Onah Chiamaka

The issue of prophecies has always been a sore topic for most. Mist people walk around like headless chickens once this topic is raised. Personally it’s difficult for me to believe that I can get a prophetic message myself and also harder to believe a prophecy from an unknown source. At least now we are sure it’s possible even if we don’t believe it

  • Nwankwo Amanda

I feel bad for the brother, he was in confusion as to what to do, regardless of the fact that God already showed the woman to him as his wife, he decided to go with what the pastors said.
Sometimes, we are caught up in such things, my best advise is to go for what God told you, everyone feels the need to go for what the Pastor is saying, simply because they believe that the level of the pastor’s faith and annointing is higher than theirs.

  • ONYIA STANLEY KENECHUKWU

A great one MA, when it concerns marriage we should be watchful and careful.our leaders sometimes feel they are perfect or right because of their position or role in church.we should proclaim and believe what the Lord has for us concerning marriage.

  • Chukwu Stella

A lot of people come in the name of the Lord even when they do not hear or see anything from the Lord.Fake prophets are there to stop progress and say things without profering solutions , The pastors that listened to his prophet brother where did he land himself in, serious trouble .we should be our own prophet ,we have access to God so we should talk to God directly especially situations like this.
May God save and help us in this country

  • Aroh Cynthia

A friend of mine had a similar case where her pastor prophesied to her not to marry her fiancee, without knowing that the pastor had an intention of asking for her hand in marriage. Sometimes they prophesy to us out of their own selfish interest all in the name of being God’s anointed .. May God have mercy on us all.

  • Okolie-Ekwuazi Zutem Nonyelum

    Amazing read,I enjoyed it all.
    Thank you ma.

  • Favour Chigbo

    There’s no lie here.

Even the scripture tells us that whatever God hears us say, that He will do. Even if something wrong has been declared, we still have what it takes to revoke every ill word that has been spoken.

  • Oluwadare John Timilehin

Amazing! What a powerful message to always wait upon the Lord and at all times depend on His word.

  • Judith Donatus

Thank you ma. Marriage is a sacred institution ordained by God. We shouldn’t listen to instructions from men that negate the instructions of God. Also, we should not give people advice carelessly concerning their marriages. Many marriages are in shambles because of advice from well-meaning people, but due to their lack of discernment, they gave wrong advice, which was accepted and caused some damage.
