WE ARE ONE (POEM)

Disunity in the body of Christ is very common today. Amazingly, some Christian denominations feel they alone will be entitled to get into heaven because of what they consider their doctrinal soundness. Sometimes, the differences in teaching and opinion are on minor issues like what musical instruments should be used in church, what day should worship services be held on (Saturday or Sunday) and whether believers should wear certain types of clothes and jewelry.

My concern over this has led me to feature a guest post on it. You can click on the title to read it.

Gospel According to Me and My Church by Rich Maffeo

I also did a funny personal experience feature on my own interaction with a fellow believer of a different persuasion years ago. You can also read that via the title below.

Miss P and I

Augustine of Hippo famously admonished us thus on this matter of unity: “In essentials, unity; in non-essentials, liberty; in all things, charity.”

Against this backdrop by God’s grace, I composed this little poem to remind us of our oneness in Christ on this joyous occasion. May God help us to celebrate and uphold one another irrespective of our doctrinal and denominational differences so that our witness before the world will be powerful in Jesus’ name.

WE ARE ONE
We may think we are on separate lanes
We may call ourselves by different names
We may differ on how to dress
We may have varying styles of praise
But if by the blood of Christ we’ve been saved
We are one, brothers and sisters beloved

HAPPY EASTER, EVERYONE!!! WE ARE ONE!!!

  • Saved by the blood of Jesus is the tie that binds. Lovely poem, and so true when divided churches are squabbling over dress codes and hymnal use.

Delighted you came by, April! We just need to focus on the things that matter if we want the world to take us serious. Have a fabulous week in Jesus’ name.

  • Amen. Good word and something more people need to be aware of and meditate on.

Beautiful poem Edith! Loved it so much! The Bible says, “They will know us by our love.” How often we fail at this! How it must break our Father’s heart. So thankful to be in groups through this blogging journey that include such diverse sisters who work together to further His kingdom! Love your heart sweet sister!

Love you back, sis! Yes, some of our groups demonstrate what our Lord Jesus Christ prayed for His church in John 17. We can only keep pushing for this wherever we are to spread the aroma of Christ farther in the world. I’m very thankful for your visit. You are sooo blessed!

    God Bless You Ma’am.

  • We are truly one absolutely. We must avoid the partitions of denominations and tribes in Christianity. Paul warned believers at Corinth strongly about this. 1Cor 3:4. Let’s not forget that Satan is against our oneness also. As a result, we must continually be prayerful on this, and individually practice love among ourselves. After all said and done, we can only be one if our doctrines and practices are Bible rooted. We cannot be one with false doctrines and teachers. This we must look out for ! Thanks for sharing my sister. God bless you.

Thanks a lot, Richard. I appreciate your contributions. God’s overflowing grace on your ministry in Jesus’ name.

I love your quote from Augustine of Hippo. We just learned about him in history this year. His quote is the perfect way to sum up these thoughts. I have family that believes they are the one right denomination. It is frustrating to say the least.

    • Edith Ohaja

I know the feeling, my dear! May God continue to grant you the patience to deal with them in Jesus’ name.

  • I love the quote by St. Augustine! I had never heard it before so thank you!

    • Edith Ohaja

Bless you, Charlie! I learnt it during a discussion of unity in Christendom and fell in love with it. I pray a beautiful week for you and your family in Jesus’ name.

Unity is what makes us last in this wicked world. I pray that God will strengthen our unity for progress.

  • Ozoguejiofor Uche Jacinta

That’s right Mam . tell them! . Irrespective of your denomination..we are one!!!

  • Edeh Cynthia oluomachi

We are one despite our different religion, we are brothers and sisters,we are one body of christ,we are one irrespective of our diverse ethnic groups,we are a royal priesthood,a holy nation…united we stand, divided we fall…let unity prevail

  • Unity is what keeps a group going. Christians should thrive to be united so as to wax stronger and win more souls to God’s kingdom.

  • Though we are many we are one body. We are One body in Christ. Irrespective of who we are and where we are from we are all connected to each other through Christ.

  • Agwu Tochukwu Frank

Truly, we are one. The means of our redemption is not varied. We are known with one name”Christians”. Denomination is only a place of attachment. God cares for all of us. Different parts of one body- Christ

  • Nwangwu chisom

Indeed we are one. Christianity is not a religion but the nature of God in us. Folks should stop living their christian life as tho its a religion. With such a mentality, one will not be able to have a consciousness that we are one

    • Anabude oluchi

Lovely peom! In as much as we may have doctrine that are not the same or mode of worship we should be able to accommodate and respect others believe and views and also stay united in the body of our Lord Jesus Christ.

  • Anyalewechi Chinaza

We as Christians all believe in Jesus Christ. No matter the denomination, we are all one in Christ Jesus.

  • judith

Very inspirational post ma, even under the umbrella of christianity, there’s still some sort of diversity… your post really got me, we are really one.

  • “WE MAY CAL OURSELVES by different names… but if we are saved by the same blood of Christ we are one” as Christians we serve the same God who is love personified, shouldn’t we show love?

  • Madu Daniel Chukwuemeka

Apt! We are one. Still cant imagine how some denominations choose not to marry or associate with other denominations. That is so contrary to what the Bible teaches

  • OTINGA RUTH IFUNANYA

We truly are bonded as one in Christ. The diversity in denominations has being the order day. Yet Christ has bonded us all with his bread and wine. We are still one church.

  • Arene Ifeyinwa Ketochukwu

We are members of the body of Christ. Christ is the head of the body that is the church. This implies we are one. God made church and not denominations. Denominations were created by men so we should not discriminate other Christians due to mere denomination because denomination was created by men.

  • Bessong Faith Ada

Unity is all we need to stand firm in the world. Thank you so much ma, your poem is full of inspirations and encouragement.

  • Willie Albert Zikiye

The body of Christ is one therefore, Christians are one. But the situation in the contemporary society is unacceptable. Churches have introduced different doctrines which serves as knives tearing the body of Christ apart. The Church is gradually moving away from teaching sound word of God to doctrines all in the name of protecting their members. I pray God should help us. (all this religious dogmas they are teaching)

  • Oshana Oyaku Endurance

Yes! We are one bonded in the body of Christ. No matter the denomination, we are one in the body of Christ and heirs of the kingdom.

  • Agnes

Indeed! Christ has made us one through his death and blood that he she’d for us. As to our conduct due to our belief, it should never be imposed on others who do not share the same belief. Although you may not be able to keep a profound friendship with such a one so you don’t get confused as to what is right or wrong.

  • The death of Christ has brought unity to the Christians, we are heirs of the kingdom we are bonded with the son, we are children of the father , we are family, we are one under one body which is Christ. Thank you ma for this inspirational poem.

  • Nwosu Victoria

i wish all christians in all denominations could read this post and understand the need for love anf=d unity. it has gotten to a point where people now discriminate against others in different denominations from theirs. certain favors and positions are reserved only for people in some certain denominations and others, even though qualified for that favor or position, would be denied it because they don’t belong to that denomination. it is really disturbing and i hope God will open our eyes to see the reality; we are one.

  • Brown Bethel Ogadimma

Yes, we are one. How I wish Christians will understand this, that no matter our various tribes and denominations, we are one in Christ, and there is need for love and unity.

  • Eze Nnenna

The body of Christ is one.
True there are disunity. Differences, but that doesn’t make us apart. We are the body of Christ and we are one in Christ

  • Mark Favour

OH yea, like the song that says,” we are heirs of the father, we are joint heirs with the son, we are children of the kingdom, we’re family, we are one.
May the lord bind us together in Jesus name, amen!

  • Nnorom Wisdom Hillary

Yes we are one, no matter the tribe or denomination, we all were saved and belong to the same body of Christ

  • Nnabuihe Victoria

“I do not pray for these alone, but also for those who will believe in Me through their word that they all may be one, as You, Father, are in Me, and I in You; that they also may be one in Us, that the world may believe that You sent Me. And the glory which You gave Me I have given them, that they may be one just as We are one. I in them, and You in Me that they may be made perfect in one, and that the world may know that You have sent Me, and have loved them as You have loved Me. John 17:20-23. As Christians we are one in the body of Christ irrespective of the denomination. We should stop being religious, and we should also recognize oneness among each other as Christians.

  • Adiukwu Desire

Unity in body of Christ is what we need as believers. God help us in this generation
