WHEN THE LORD RESTORES THE FORTUNES OF HIS PEOPLE

At this time when the world is moving at a dizzying pace and people are terrified of what might happen next, I have good news for you: the Lord is about to restore the losses of His people and cause them to surpass where they were before.

“And I will restore to you the years that the locust hath eaten, the cankerworm, and the caterpiller, and the palmerworm, my great army which I sent among you.” – Joel 2:25 KJV

The overreaction of governments around the world and the politicisation of the COVID-19 pandemic ruined the livelihoods of many and non-populist economic policies threaten to finish off what is left for the average person. But God is bigger than elitist economic policies and ideological shifts that are savage to the wellbeing of ordinary people. He is bigger than natural disasters, enemy invasions and whatever we have suffered on a personal level. He is the Lord of all the earth and all power belongs to Him.

Why would God speak of restoring our fortunes now? I believe it is because He has work for us to do. The words of our Lord Jesus in John 4:35 that the fields are ripe for harvest were never more true than now. People are confused and browbeaten. Some are depressed and suicidal. They need to make sense of what is going on and learn how to cope. They need to see the possibility that they can flourish and assist others regardless of where they are now. What better way to bring them the foregoing than through preaching the gospel to them?

The gospel liberates and empowers. Knowing and serving the Lord imbues us with an irrepressible and triumphant spirit. When people wonder why we are not broken and petrified in the face of today’s uncertainties, we need to introduce them to the Lord Jesus. We need to ask them to repent of their sins and embrace Him as their Lord and Saviour.

God knows that we need resources to do this- face-to-face, through printed materials, broadcasting and the myriad of internet platforms out there. The world is censoring Conservative voices and will soon be targetting Christians with greater boldness even in Western democracies. We need our own platforms to proclaim the word of truth and bring as many as possible to the saving knowledge of Jesus while time remains. Besides, when ministering to the under privileged, we may need to alleviate some of their suffering with material gifts, medical assistance and educational programmes to equip them with skills to earn a living.

“15. Suppose a brother or a sister is without clothes and daily food. 16. If one of you says to them, ‘Go in peace; keep warm and well fed,’ but does nothing about their physical needs, what good is it?” – James 2:15-16

I believe the Lord will do amazing things for His people at this time.

“When the Lord restored the fortunes of Zion, we were like those who dreamed. ” – Psalm 126:1

We just need to bear in mind that prosperity from God at this critical time in history is primarily for the purpose of financing His work, not for us to pursue pleasure, become complacent and indolent as the Israelites did during the reign of Jeroboam, the descendant of Jehu. That will earn us destruction with the world He has placed us here to help Him save (Amos 6:1-8).

Prayer
Dear Lord, we pray for Your rain of surplus on us and our families. We pray, above other things, that we be bound to You with cords of love, listening to Your heartbeat and spending largely on the things that matter most to You.

Amen in Jesus’ name.

The scriptures used in this post are from the New International Version of the Holy Bible except where otherwise stated.

Amen! I believe God is able to restore us back to even greater wealth. God is also capable of giving his people the boldness to speak without fear and initiative to set up a platform of our own, that would help in spreading the word. Happy Sunday Ma and God bless you for these wonderful words.

  • Chinecherem Stephens

I think that complacency and indolence is one of the major reasons why it seems like Christians aren’t as blessed as their unbelieving counterparts.
This is a wake-up call for Christians to mind the things that matter, while we wait for God’s restoration. The message of the saving grace of Jesus is what the world needs to live again.

    • God restores the fortune of man’s loss. I learnt that nothing is impossible for God. whatever that happen in life happens for a specific purpose which must be accomplish.

  • Ugwoke Jennifer Chinecherem

Amen. I believe strongly in my heart that the Lord is about to restore the losses of His people. I know that God will not allow us to suffer.
I am trusting him to do amazing things for us this year. Thank you, Ma, and may God continue to strengthen you.

  • Ngene Bob Charles

The beautiful reality of life that motivates me to wake up and handle what comes as the days go by is God’s supreme and unrivalled love for me

Thank you Aunty Edith for giving me yet another reason to stay motivated..God will restore all that has been lost

  • Even when God restores the fortune of His people, it is only His(God’s people) that will be aware of this and witness what He has done for us, therefore we that are aware of what Jesus can do should labour more to harvest more souls to the kingdom of light so we will be many that will enjoy what God is doing.

  • Ifunanya Obiaga

Amen to your prayers!! Well for me personally I lose track, I lose focus. I almost always forget that I can count on him and he’ll come through for me but trust me every time I do, every time I reach out. Either by praying or reading the word of God it feels overwhelming and comforting.
Truly God is bigger than us and all our troubles combined and I can only believe that it will get better, really can’t wait for that phase of life where I’m able to give back as much as I receive from him. God willing.

  • Amaugo, Stephanie Chidinma

Amen! Thank God for His word…His word doesn’t lack integrity. Since He has promised to restore, I’ll respond to His promise by believing no matter how difficult it may be. And when the restoration begins to manifest physically, “may I not forget Zion” Thank you so much Ma for sharing this with us.

  • Obi Chisom Vanessa

Counting on the Lord at hard times is something most Christians forget to do, we forget how great the Lord is and his promises for us, me included honestly. So I appreciate and thank you for this reminder.
Even if the world of today is trying to bring down Christians, we should stand and unite as one and remember Joel 2:25 and Psalm 126:1.

  • Ejiofor Emmanuel

Amen! God is bigger than every mountain. He is bigger than the seas. So is he bigger than our problems. He shall restore all we have lost.
For the Bible says, “Weeping may tarry for the night, but joy comes with the morning” (Psalm 30:1-5). I believe in his word that he will do as he has promised.

  • Ochei Anthony Arinze

Truly we need to continue giving hope to people around us who must have lost hope and confidence in God. A lot of things happened during the middle and ending of last year and people lost their faith in that process. So as Christians, we need to support the church of Christ by spreading the good news to them, we need to restore their faith and give them hope to continue with the journey of life. So as to win souls back to God.

Thank you Mam for your good work and i pray that God will grant you the strength and the zeal to continue with what you are doing
    Amen.

  • Nkwocha chibueze Innocent

Thank you ma at a time like this we need to be reminded of the promises of God that never fails to come to pass, then I also like where you said people should be there for others not only by words but by actions

  • Anabude Oluchi m.

Frankly speaking, we need to have an intimate relationship with God because it’s only grace that can deliver us from the happenings around us. We should also reach out to indidviuals that need assistance either financially or otherwise…. Thank you, ma,for such encouraging words!

    • Dick-Unegbu Jennifer

God’s love for us, never changes, no matter the situation we are in. He lends a helping hand, guides and protects us.
Especially, during the Covid 19 pandemic, he watched over us, that’s more reason to never stop praising him and his words are true.

  • Obeta Lillian Chiamaka

The word of God(the Bible) is the best encouragement and guide everyone needs in life. The Bible has a solution to your every problem, we just need to believe and depend solely on God because he can never leave us stranded in any situation.

  • Ezidimma Odinakachukwu Oluchukwu

Our God is a mighty God. He is the only one that has the power to restore unto us all our lost glories.. We need to believe in God for even when men forsake you, God cannot forsake you. God bless you ma

  • Chukwuemeka Ifunanya Abigail

I believe and know that God is always in the business of restoring stolen and lost fortune, our only set back is our faith and belief systems.

  • Eze Chioma Uzoamaka

Indeed, God is bigger than elitist economic policies and natural disasters. The phrase ‘my help comes from the Lord’ and ‘the Lord is my refuge and shelter’ kept resonating in my mind while reading this post. With a steadfast faith and belief that God can make anything possible, whenever we feel like everything is going bad and there’s no other way out, we should turn to our Father, The Lord, who has given us full permission to seek Him whenever we need Him and He’ll be right there for us!

  • Suppose a brother or a sister is without clothes and daily food. 16. If one of you says to them, ‘Go in peace; keep warm and well fed,’ but does nothing about their physical needs, what good is it?” – James 2:15-16….. This particular scripture touched my soul while I was going through this write up. I am always willing to give but I don’t have enough but the little I have, I still do what I can to help those in need. During the lockdown, you could tell people were suffering a lot, especially from hunger, but with the little we had, we tried to help some neighbors with foodstuff and God kept on providing help from where we least excepted it to come from and through that process also preach the word of God to them in order to encourage them. God bless you, Ma, for these words of encouragement.

  • Okoli Ezinne Juliet

I will and always believe that God never turns His back on his people. Thank you, ma, for using this post as a reminder to all of us that what God cannot do doesn’t exist.

  • Awa-Oyom, Glory Chiamaka

This article is really inspiring, because I’ve been up and about searching for encouraging words to boost my faith during this trying times. God is good and definitely would give his people victory, be it financially, emotionally or spiritually. I’m really excited I came across this. Thank you

  • MBAM PATRICK CHINONYELUM

I strongly believe that with God all things are possible, and with hum we move and make our stand, and the God I know will never slumber, and he will always come to our aid, so am never scared of the situation of the word , because sorrow may last all the night but joy will surely come in the morning. Nice post ma?

  • Glory Oluchi

Surely God shall restore the fortunes of Zion. Another translation says when God returns the captivity of Zion…(this one sweet me pass?). Our hopes are alive. Our tomorrow shall be greater than today. Glory to God

  • Maduabuchi Christiana

God is going to restore all that we lost last year. Nothing is hard for him to do
He is a merciful lord and his mercies endureth forever.

  • Ogbozor Chiamaka Zillah

I strongly believe that what God cannot do does not exist even in the hard times He alone speaks to any situation and they obey Him. I know that the God that manifested His powers to the Israelites through Moses will surely listen to the cries of His people and I pray that God will give me the spirit of generosity to help those that am better than.

  • Ezeh Chimezie Amos

Yes human want is insatiable, from time to time man strives to improve his status quo, he strives to solve his unending problem
So the bottom line here is that we need God’s grace and favour to achieve all this coupled with support and assistance from friends and relatives. since we all depend on one another in one way or the other for survival so we must not look away when there are people around us that need our help
    Shalom??

  • Nzubechi Victor

    Amen oh.

The lord will surely intervene for his sons and daughters.

  • Aṅulika Iwoba

I couldn’t have read this at a better time.
I’m particularly moved by the reminder that the prosperity which God bequeaths on us, isn’t for us to bask in idle comfort, but for us to keep His Work moving here on earth.
And indeed, what are the policies of the political elites compared to the Omnipotence of God?
    Thank you so much ma.
This is so so timely and rich.
    God bless you!

  • Blessing Okeke

    Amen and Amen.

  • Nwalutum Chisom Doreen

God’s grace is really sufficient and his able to lead us through in anything or place we find ourselves
And indeed with God, all things are possible

  • Nwankwo Chinonyelum Gladys

Faith is one of the basic traits a human being should possess.this piece reminds me of what the Bible says in Hebrews 11:1-Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for,the conviction of things not seen.we have to assure our ourselves that all these hard times and pandemics will soon be over and we can’t do that without faith.

  • Egenti jennifer

A very uplifting piece. This pandemic really took a lot from I and my family but God’s grace remained very consistent. Even now that I’m in school, all the stress and finances, I just realized I don’t even give God enough credit for what he has done for me.

  • I believe God will restore our wasted years, our years of pain and anguish and bestow on us our expected end just as he promised in his word, Jeremiah.

  • Ominaki pamela

I realised that knowledge is life, the Bible says my people perish for ignorance. God said he’ll restore everything we’ve lost, and God can’t lie. Even the COVID19 virus can’t stop or hinder God’s promises to us.

  • Omeje cynthia

God is not man that he should lie neither is he a son man that he should repent, have he spoken and then not act does he promise and does not fulfill Num23:19 Of a truth our God is faithful and full of mercy and gracious in his act. For his desires about is that of good and not of evil….thanks Ma, for reminding me the sure and unfailing promises of God in his word. Am lifted

  • Chidebe uchechukwu cyprian

God never fails in his words. In times of trouble he gives us comfort, In times of need he provides. God always remembers his people in times of need. He is a capable God like one of the gospel artist said, that what is hard for God to do doesn’t exist and I believe that hundred percent. Like he said in Isaiah 46.4 “I made you and I will carry you, I will protect you and I will rescue you,” says the Lord of hosts. He said call and I will answer, knock and the door will be opened to you. He knows when we are troubled, but he wants us to voice out problems to him through prayers… thank you, ma, for this spiritual food of life. God is always using people like you to do marvelous things.. keep it up, ma, more power to your elbow.

  • Ugwuja Deborah Tochukwu

I’m so happy I saw this now. Many times I struggle to keep my faith, I try as much as possible not to give up but the word of God reminds me of God’s promises in my life.

  • Nwosu Victoria Onyinye

Its been God all the way, and he is too faithful to fail. Even when things get really tough, God is still with us.
Thank you for the encouragement, ma.

There are lots of advantages in serving God, a clear case of “when they say there’s a casting down, we will say there’s a lifting up”. When we serve God, he restotes our peace in times of trouble.

  • Sambo Deborah Friday

There is a popular verse in the Bible that says “when the lord turn away the captivity of Zion, we were like them that dreamed” and that the Lord shall restore back the years that the locust an cankerworm has eaten

  • Ugwu Doris chinenye

The ways of God is not the ways of man. I believe the Lord sees our troubles but he intervene when he sees the right time. The restoration works only at the right time and your faith helps it comes faster to you. The fortune of his people comes when Joy cometh in the morning at the reliable time.

  • Olusola Esther

The scriptural verse of the psalmist;126:1 as articulated herein clearly echoes the mind of the author which is that, as christians, we are not necessarily supposed to be depressed by the uncertainties that punctuate our daily lives but concentrate with faith on this promise of restoration

  • Chukwumalume Ozioma

He tells us that the plans he has for us are of peace and not of evil. He is ever faithful to his word, for what he says, is what he does. He will indeed restore the fortunes of his people.

  • God is capable of giving his people the boldness to speak without fear and also to spread his words.

  • Eze Chinalurumogu Success

God is our only source. This is epic!

  • Christians should always have it in mind that God is able to do all things. God knows everything about us and he is always there to help us even when no one is there. We should always work by faith ,trusting the Lord and practicing faith. Let’s stop belittling ourselves because the Bible made us to realize that we are smaller God’s.

  • Dick-Unegbu Jennifer

God’s love for his people never changes, no matter the situation we are in, he lends a helping hand, guides and protects us. Especially, during the Covid 19 pandemic, he watched over us, that’s more reason to never stop praising him and his words are true.

  • Faith is one of the virtue is Christian should posses. Indeed with God all things are possible.

  • Okochi Chinonso

I believe the lord will do amazing things for his people. He’ll restore all our fortunes. May we keep experiencing his goodness

  • Nweze Mary Chioma

Thus is just wonderful ma! Knowing and serving the Lord imbues us with an irrepressible and triumphant Spirit. God’s prosperity for us who believe at this time in history is primarily for the purpose of financing His work and not just for our pleasure. I take heed to these words of wisdom.

  • Okwa Ihuoma Jessica

Yeah, He will and is surely restoring our fortunes, hope in God and use what is provided to expand the kingdom of God

  • David Nneka

Our God is a God of love, he always have our interest at heart, he never sleeps or slumber, nor fails those who have faith in him.

  • Obong Phebe

I personally believe that if everyone could be driven by the passion of Christ, if we could love ourselves like Jesus then the gospel would have spread to the willing and one way or the other through the help of the Holy Spirit, convince the complacent. But it is so unfortunate in our world today that no one is ready to go a mile for his or her neighbor not to talk of an extra mile. Even when God has intentionally blessed some persons to assist others, they selfishly turn those blessings into mundane things of life. And that’s why the world is not changing despite the fact that God keeps blessing people say by day but out of 100% only 20% are actually impacting life with it. We humans really need to know that it doesn’t cost God anything to bless or curse anyone, so you had better choose to be on the right side of God to avoid his wrath.

  • Ede Ndidiamaka Patience

Sometimes, with all the things that are happening in the world today, I do say to myself that the world has actually come to an end. Ma, is there any need Schooling (after all, they said that there is no more job in Nigeria), engaging in businesses, skill acquisition etc? Is it not better to be in one’s room, praying and awaiting Jesus coming?

    • No, that would be a mistake. Some of the early Christians made the same mistake- selling their properties and sharing the proceeds instead of investing and growing their wealth.

The Bible said that when Jesus comes again, people will be engaged in.their normal activities. Prayer is good, but how will you survive and be a productive member of society if you don’t work? Eventually, you’ll start begging from those who are working and turn into a nuisance to them. So, pray and live right but work as well.

  • Agbo Peace

God is always able to do all things, he knows everything about us and he knows the way to put us through That is why we don’t need to bother ourselves be cause he intercedes for the common man

    • Duru Gift Onyinyechi

The Lord will always be with his people. He will restore our glory and fortune to us. We should learn to help others who are in need. We should also work and pray. We serve a big God and there is nothing to big for Him to do.

  • Ossai Joy Adanne

Believing in God even when you think there is no way. Truly we should also help other people in the society who have fallen out of their way help uplift them through Christ.

  • Nwafor Cynthia Chinenyenwa

Our God is truly able to do just what he says he will do. As Christians we should learn to serve God in fullness, in truth and in spirit.

  • Even if our faith is like a mustard seed it can move mountains… I know that God got my back always.

  • I believe that with God all things are possible. If I put my faith and trust in him he will restore all fortunes of his people.Amen

  • Nnochiri Chinecherem Nnabuike

God has always been faithful to us. He always keeps His promise and His always ready to grant us divine restoration

  • Ikechukwu Favour Mmesoma

At the time when all hope is gone, we should never forget that God is able to do exceedingly above all we could ever imagine or ask of him. All we have to do is to “keep believing”. When people are crying and saying “there is casting down”, we shall be saying “there is lifting up” Hallelujah!!. God who has given us the mandate to share the gospel will definitely equip us to do so. Thank you ma for this beautiful piece of encouragement, God bless you.

  • Ojobo somtochukwu praise

There is nothing God can’t do, even up till now. We should understand that God can change our story, restore and uplift us just in a day. Put your trust in God and he will never fail you.

  • Iwuchukwu Samuel Ifechukwu

Having trust in God just as Esther and Daniel did is a very big fuel to being assured of restoration and fulfilment.

  • Ama Mitchelle Chisom

God is supreme over everything that is happening here on earth and no matter the circumstances that surround us,by the Grace of God,all that has been lost is restored.

  • ALEX-UGORJI ESTHER

I pray that the Lord restore his people to stability. I pray also that what the locust has eaten before now be restored in full for there’s so much chaos and hunger in the land.

  • Rejoice Chiwudom Onyewuchi

I think that complacency and insolence is one of the key reasons why it seems like Christians aren’t as blessed as their unbelieving peer. While we wait for God’s restoration, this is a reminder for Christians to focus on the important things. What the world need to life again is the gospel of Jesus’ atoning grace.
